Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. -Honorable Mention:
“About a Boy” (NBC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Glee” (Fox), “New Girl” (Fox), “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (Fox), “Mind Games” (ABC)

———-

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean overnight household sweep for CBS on this final Tuesday in March with its combination of “NCIS” (#1 for the evening: 11.3 rating/18 share), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (9.6/15) and “Person of Interest” (7.6/13). Comparably, “Person of Interest” bested failed year-ago occupant “Golden Boy” (5.5/ 9 on 3/26/13) by 38 percent. And if the Eye net does move “The Big Bang Theory” to Monday next season, sending “Person of Interest” back into the Thursday 9 p.m. hour might offset some of the losses on the night incurred by the absence of Sheldon and Leonard and company.

NBC got a lift, of course, care of “The Voice,” which finished second in the 8 p.m. hour with an 8.0/13 and will easily dominate the evening in all the key demographics. Lead-out comedies “About a Boy” (#2: 4.8/ 7) and “Growing Up Fisher” (#2: 3.9/ 6) were consistent from one week earlier from 9-10 p.m., which was 40 percent above failed-year ago sitcoms “Go On” (3.7/ 6 on 3/26/13) and “The New Normal” (2.5/ 4). Yes…lead-in still does matter! And an encore of already renewed “Chicago Fire” (#2: 2.5/ 4) beat competing drama “Mind Games” on ABC (series low 1.4/ 2) by 79 percent. Tick, tock…the cancellation clock is ticking on yet another failed Christian Slater series.

Earlier in the evening on ABC were encore telecasts of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (#4: 2.1/ 3), “The Goldbergs” (#4: 2.0/ 3) and “Trophy Wife” (#4t, 1.5/ 2) from 8-10 p.m.

Over at The CW, an encore of the pilot episode of new drama “The 100,” which got off to a positive start last Wednesday, scored a 1.2/ 2 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, that was just 14 percent below an original installment of regularly scheduled occupant “The Originals” one week earlier (1.4/ 2 on March 18). And it led into a 1.5/ 2 for veteran “Supernatural” from 9-10 p.m., which was 15 percent above the 1.3/ 2 one week earlier. Let’s see what happens tonight.

Fox, meanwhile, suffered another series low from relocated “Glee” (#3: 2.2/ 3 at 8 p.m.), which should be moved to Friday at 9 p.m. to burn-off the final episodes next season. And it led into a 2.1/ 3 each for fading “New Girl,” which is not so stylish anymore, and the season-finale of critical darling “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” from 9-10 p.m.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

  1. I really hope Supernatural can bounce back in the ratings, I'd like to see it at or above a 1.0 this week.

  6. They must regret renewing Glee for S5 and S6 last year, surely it has to have a shortened 13 ep season now especially given the sad Cory situation.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sadly FOX can't move Glee to FX/FXX once it doesn't fit with the channels premise

  8. I can't believe FOX comedies got renewals their #s are horrible

  9. The ratings for Brooklyn Nine Nine make me sad.

The problem with About a Boy and Growing Up Fisher is that if NBC renews them and moves them to a new timeslot, there's a good chance both will plummet in the ratings. With Community and Parks and Rec ending in April, NBC should give them both a tryout on Thursday nights for the last few weeks of the season. Let's see how well they do without The Voice as a lead-in.

  11. The Voice lead-in will do that for you.

    ReplyDelete
  12. You know it's bad for TTP when a repeat of The 100 gets nearly twice as many viewers as the latest new episode of TTP. Damn. But good for The 100 though.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I know Bones is in rough shape, but compared to Tuesday night it's doing fine, IMO, especially for a 9 year old show. I do feel bad for B99 and New Girl, though.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mind Games back to 0.6 ...

    ReplyDelete
  15. B99 and new girl both got 1.2

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wow who knew the 100 repeat would do better than TTP original episode.

    ReplyDelete
  17. before that it said 1.2..

    ReplyDelete
  18. pilots always repeat super strong relative to normal repeats

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yay,POI went up this week!

It's great to see again a 2 in PoI's row. I hope it stays with the final numbers and I hope it stays for the rest of the season as well.

  22. FFS. The 100 does better as a repeat than the last two new TTP episodes have.

I think New Girl got renewed because of syndication but there's no explanation for the other comedies.
