Metered Market Tuesday Ratings
Clean Sweep for CBS; “The Voice” Will Lead Demographically
Tuesday 3/18/14
Household
Rating/Share
CBS 8.9/14
NBC 5.6/ 9
ABC 2.3/ 4
Fox 2.0/ 3
CW 1.3/ 2
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Wednesday 3/20/13:
NBC: +155, CW: +86, CBS: – 4, Fox: -37, ABC: -65
———-
-Winners:
“NCIS” (CBS), “The Voice” (NBC), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (CBS), “Person of Interest” (CBS)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe” (ABC), “Glee” (Fox), “Trophy Wife” (ABC), “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (Fox), “Mind Games” (ABC)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another Tuesday overnight household sweep for CBS with its line-up of “NCIS” (10.8 rating/17 share – #1 for the night), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (8.8/14) and “Person of Interest” (7.1/12). But a rock-solid 8.2/13 for competing “The Voice” on NBC in the 8 p.m. hour will clearly lead the evening in adults 18-49 (and all key demos).
NBC 9-10 p.m. sitcoms “About a Boy” (#2: 4.8/ 7) and “Growing Up Fisher” (#2: 3.8/ 6) continue to capitalize from the support of “The Voice,” besting ABC’s competing “The Goldbergs” (#3: 3.0/ 5) and “Trophy Wife” (#3: 2.3/ 4) by an average of 62 percent. And that proves, of course, that lead-in still matters. Minus “The Voice,” both sitcoms would be rating considerably lower.
Sophomore “Chicago Fire” closed the night on NBC with a second-place 4.3/ 7 at 10 p.m., which should be enough to compete for dominance in the hour demographically against older-skewing “Person of Interest” on CBS.
Over at ABC, 8 p.m. special “Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe” was of little interest with a 2.6/ 4 in the overnights. And week four of failing drama “Mind Games” dipped to a series-low 1.5/ 3 at 10 p.m., which could be an historical low for the network in the time period for a regularly scheduled series. Chances are the axe will be swinging today.
Elsewhere, relocated “Glee” on Fox remained out of the competitive loop with a fourth-place 2.4/ 4 at 8 p.m., which was 35 percent below year-ago occupant “Hell’s Kitchen” (3.7/ 6 on 3/19/13). And that led into a repeat of “New Girl” at a 1.3/ 2 at 9 p.m. (#4), followed by relocated “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” at a series low 1.9/ 3 at 9:30 p.m. On The CW, “The Originals” (#5: 1.4/ 2) led into a 1.3/ 2 for “Supernatural” (#5) at 9 p.m., which is nothing unusual.

Pretty low for Supernatural. Let's hope the ratings don't reflect the numbers here.
ReplyDeletePoor B99 :(
ReplyDeleteB99 series low. :o
ReplyDeleteHoping for a good number for PoI!
Not to be a douche, but: if those HH numbers reflect the A18-49 numbers, it serves ABC right for putting SHIELD on a break for the 39th or so time this season so they can show an hour-long promo for the Marvel movies. If they weren't such dumbasses, they would've scheduled all shows like they did OUaT this year: one BIG break and then an uninterrupted run. Instead, every week it's like playing bingo to figure out whether or not there's a new episode.
ReplyDeleteJust curious to see the final demo for Mind Games ...
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that we could see it as low as 0.5 and 2.3 Million.
ReplyDeleteHappy B99 is renewed already. Sad that we only have a few more eps of TW to enjoy :(
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that HH rating means Glee actually did better than Bones this week.
ReplyDeleteHi :) what are your guesses about glee ? i know they're in the losers category but what could a 2.4/ 4 menas in terms of ratings
ReplyDeleteVery hard to predict with Glee as it skews quite younger. I would guess a 1.0 or 1.1 with 3.0-3.5 million viewers. Although it could go as low as .9 and 2.5 million
ReplyDeleteA 0.5 could mean immediate cancellation or a saturday banishing-burnoff. I was also wondering if ever an original broadcast scripted show ever reached that low.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying Mind Games, I think it could fit USA Network better, though. Sad to see its numbers.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
ReplyDeleteWell a lot of CW shows often get .02,.03 and .04. Hannibal and Dracula have both hit .7's Enlisted and Raising Hope have both hit .5's this season
B99 :[
ReplyDeleteI am really surprised that ABC hasn't pulled Mind Games yet.
ReplyDeleteI thought they pull it after it hit 0.6 for ep 2, but ABC really surprised me this time.
ReplyDeleteGoldbergs is up, yeah
ReplyDeleteBoth NBC comedies up from last week.
ReplyDeleteprobably because they lack a proper replacement that they know will fare better.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there an 'Agent Carter' spin-off in developement ? That'd be a good teamup for tuesdays if it's developed for ABC
Chicago Fire beat POI.
ReplyDeleteWell OUAT and the other shows that had a special schedule this year are all serialized dramas. AOS is suppose to be a procedural by nature
ReplyDeleteIt TNT
ReplyDeleteThe didn't hesitate from replacing The Assets and Lucky 7 with repeats.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if a period-ish drama like Agent Carter will do well on ABC.
Well, trophy wife is up compared to last week but still... it will be canceled :(
ReplyDeleteWith the way AoS is going I don't think it would boost Agent Carter's chances for survival
ReplyDeleteSo Long...Mind Games!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. ABC give it a full order because they produced it, but it honestly didn't deserve it.
ReplyDeleteWow at B99.
ReplyDeleteSo Glad CF is stable
ReplyDeleteI think they will do that next season with SHIELD. But also with these breaks its so the episodes tie-in with other Marvel projects- I think that is why we have a 2 week break because they want the eps to link up with Captain America. Not that its an excuse and I agree the scheduling sucks and they knew well in advance when Cap was coming out but I wonder if that is why.
ReplyDeleteOuch to b99 this show is really good dont get why its so low :(

Wow new low to TO...is it because of the departure of Rebekah
ReplyDeleteWow Chicago Fire beat POI has that happened before?
ReplyDeleterarely a departure has an immediate effect on the ratings
ReplyDeleteMajority of the weeks. Only a couple of times POI beat CF this season.
ReplyDeleteThey had Pan Am (which I liked) a few years back and we all know how that did...
ReplyDeleteOh okay thanks for the info. I don't watch either show so I dont pay attention to their ratings but today I didn't have anything on and so I noticed. Wow surprised me cause I had the assumption that POI was some kind of big show on CBS
ReplyDeleteThere have been some exceptions ei The OC
ReplyDeleteThat was different because Marissa died on the season three finale. The effect wasn't immediate.
ReplyDeleteOuch at TO!
ReplyDeleteI hate these NCIS ratings.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to say. There were articles saying it was permanent on the Internet, but no big interviews. The viewers who just watch the show may be thinking she'll come back in an episode or two. After all Elijah was stuck in a coffin for several weeks because Daniel Giles had other commitments.
ReplyDeleteA 123.76 million viewers for The Voice! That's gotta be a television record our something?!
ReplyDelete0.9 I recon
ReplyDeleteIt looks like networks should renew the shows only on May because it's not rare that shows lose live viewers after they got renewed. And that sucks, because fans should be grateful to the networks that wanted to trust the series and their fans, giving early renewals.
ReplyDeleteSpring is not being good on NCIS. Same for CW shows.
ReplyDeleteI highly doubt it, Arrow was down too last week. Ratings are usually down in spring.
ReplyDeleteErm, ratings are already out and it did 1.1.
ReplyDeleteThere is also another break which seems to have angered a lot of people. They need to be consistent so we don't have to change our schedules week to week.
ReplyDeleteApperently CW was preempted in Chicago due to elections.
ReplyDeleteIt's more like 12.76 million, haha.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the first half of the season. Since I can no longer use the app (no cable provider) I've rarely watched and what I have seen hasn't been as good. I liked it but I won't really miss it.
ReplyDeletePOI better adjust up. Be damned if folks who don't have the urge to be invested in the long-term game & choose to be drones with monotonous storytelling (that they'd get from the NCIS & CSI clones) gets the show in a hard spot...
ReplyDeleteThe move to 9:30 certainly did not help B99. Wish they'd move it up a hour or so. It trespasses on my SPN time. B99 is actually very good. One of the best supporting casts on any comedy currently on air. Wonder if Fox will try it on a different night next season.
ReplyDeleteThe Goldbergs did good with that poor lead i hope is worth for something....
ReplyDeleteIt is a big show. But it's for thinkers. Not for people who watch the Bachelor and other stuff like that. It's ratings have been down a little this entire season. I'm hoping they move it back to Thursdays at 9. POI and Chicago Fire have always rated pretty closely.
ReplyDeleteI think that, like a lot of dramas, AoS is a procedural/serial hybrid where the serial elements become more prominent over time. As such, breaks are likely still detrimental to its performance.
ReplyDeleteThat's as good an explanation as any, thanks for the insight. I certainly hope for a more continuous schedule next season. I know there are all sorts of hurdles like holidays, award shows and sporting events they wish to sidestep, so they have to interrupt a show's run for the sake of its ratings sometimes... but when you go too far with that, you lose or at least annoy a lot of viewers.(I'm not a Nielsen - or, indeed, U.S. - viewer, so my annoyance doesn't matter in terms of the show's ratings, but I'm still going to voice it. LOL.)
ReplyDeleteI completely agree I'm in the UK and I get so annoyed when the shows I watch are off air because of sport or awards. I really hope ABC adapt the OUAT and Revenge approach next season because whilst dedicated fans will watch a show no matter when its on the average viewer easily forgets and lose interest.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural was low this week compared to the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteI cant believe The Voice does better than NCIS......
ReplyDeleteFOX fails so hard at scheduling, what was wrong w/ B99 previous time slot??
ReplyDeletetoo bad SPN sad really. better luck next week you will need it.
ReplyDeleteChicago Fire is reruns for the next three weeks. Hopefully POI will recover next two episodes.
ReplyDeleteGood. There's two straight ones before the three week break in April & then there's four stretch to close. Really wish that more fans of the genre pick it up during the summer so they can add to S4's numbers.
ReplyDeleteWorried for TO, next episode will show if it's just a one time thing or lots of fans dropped the show due to Rebekah leaving.
ReplyDeleteYeah, exactly. The casual viewers, who make up most of the ratings in the end of the day, aren't going to check online to see when the show is coming back from a break. They're just not that invested. If it's not on once or twice, they'll just stop tuning in at that night & time and therefore not be there when the show comes back.
ReplyDelete
