Tuesday 3/11/14 Metered Market Ratings
More Promising Performances for “About a Boy” and “Growing Up Fisher” on NBC
Household
Rating/Share
CBS 6.0/10
NBC 5.9/10
ABC 2.7/ 4
Fox 2.1/ 3
CW 1.1/ 2
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 3/12/13:
NBC: +181, CW: +83, CBS: -14, ABC: -31, Fox: -50
———-
-Winners:
“The Voice” (NBC)
-Honorable Mention:
“About a Boy” (NBC), “Growing Up Fisher” (NBC)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Glee” (Fox), “The Goldbergs” (ABC), “New Girl” (Fox), “Trophy Wife” (ABC), “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (Fox), “Mind Games” (ABC)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
Despite airing a night of all repeats, CBS still managed to dominate this second Tuesday in the household overnights with a 0.1 rating point advantage over second-place NBC. But the home of “The Voice” is a lock for leadership in adults 18-49 (and the other key young adult demographics).
“The Voice” topped the night with an 8.5 rating/14 share in the overnights from 8-9 p.m., which was 21 percent above an encore of “NCIS” on CBS (#2: 7.0/11). Next on NBC was episode three of sitcoms “About a Boy” (#2: 5.0/ 8) and “Growing Up Fisher” (#2: 4.1/ 6) from 9-10 p.m., which were right on par from one week earlier. Comparably, the two comedies bested competing “The Goldbergs” (#3: 2.9/ 4) and “Trophy Wife” (#4: 2.0/ 3) on ABC by an average of 86 percent. And both are poised for time period victory among adults 18-49 (opposite a repeat of “NCIS: Los Angeles” on CBS, #1: 6.1/10).
Sophomore “Chicago Fire” capped off the night on NBC with a 4.7/ 8 at 10 p.m., which was one-tenth of a rating point ahead of a repeat of “Person of Interest” on CBS (4.8/ 8). And that will, no doubt, dominate demographically.
On ABC, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” perked up week-to-week by 11 percent in the overnights, rising to a third-place 3.9/ 6 at 8 p.m. But this still pales in comparison to how it was performing last fall. Episode three of ABC drama “Mind Games” meanwhile, could not compete with a mere 1.8/ 3 at 10 p.m., which was equal to one week earlier (and that translated into just 2.39 million viewers and a 0.6 rating/2 share, according to the live plus same day data).
Elsewhere, relocated “Glee” on Fox could not compete with a 2.1/ 3 from 8-9 p.m., which finished a distant fourth in the time period. And it did not benefit lead-out 9-10 p.m. sitcoms “New Girl” (#4: 2.0/ 3) and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#3: 2.1/ 3), which have not earned their recent renewals. Nor has “Glee.”
The CW capped off the evening with its combination of already renewed “The Originals” (#5: 1.3/ 2) and a repeat of “Supernatural” (#5: 0.8/ 1).

Really good for About A Boy and GUF. The Originals is gonna die next week going up against the highly anticiapted 100th episode of Glee and the PLL finale. And lets not forget new episodes of The Voice and NCIS. And with Claire Holt (she plays Rebekah on Originals) leaving the show, I can see it doing a 0.6 next week.
ReplyDeleteLooks like either the Thor cross-over or no NCIS once again helped Agents of SHEILD!
ReplyDeleteGood Job AOS!! The increase was needed badly so I hope the renew it, and move time slots!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt will be renewed. It is ABC's highest rated new fall show.
ReplyDeleteNo, The Originals fell again on early ratings. I hope its rating rating will be stable anyway (0.8 wouldn't be great, but still better than 0.7), because I don't want a new series low :( I'm already broken-hearted about Rebekah.
ReplyDeleteNo The Originals! aah! with rebekah leaving, i could see reign or the 100 being top freshmen show.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Reign will be above The Originals this week. Reign will be airing after an repeat of VD. And i doubt it will be able to match last week ratings. Original is and will be the top rated freshman show of the season, it has consistently had better ratings than Reign. And while the 100 might do good, i doubt it will be able to beat the ratings of The Originals.
ReplyDeleteResurrection might have something to say about that,if it doesn't nose dive, which i doubt.
ReplyDeleteFall show, Resurrection is their highest rated mid-season show is what I meant.
ReplyDeleteCant believe Rebekah's gone! Hope its some kind of stunt, but I read she quit. The Originals with only 2 Originals? Feels incomplete.
ReplyDeleteHopefully Shield goes back to that 2.2 range. Not that it is in any danger, but still, I would like it to be higher than it was last week.
ReplyDeleteOops! didn't see 'fall'!
ReplyDeleteIt will, a lot of fans quit the originals after rebekah and claire holt leaving the show. reign won't go above a 0.6. But the 100 definitely can get some 0.8's, which would beat a 0.7, that i think the originals will have.
ReplyDeleteAoS was helped by actual marvel comic character appearing.
ReplyDeleteNext week will start to be test for the originals
move it to 9pm, that should provide a better lead in for a new show at 10 and air two new comedies at 8/8.30 instead?
ReplyDeletehow many of the people who aparently quit watching have a Nielson box?
ReplyDeleteThey seem to really want it to be a 8pm family show though, maybe if the story gets darker they will change their minds as well.
ReplyDeleteOh god Glee
ReplyDeleteThat 0.9, I wonder if next season will be shortened and moved to Fridays.
ReplyDeleteIt's impressive how the show has lost its audience, such a hit...
ReplyDeleteAoS up to a 2.0, not great but that's still decent
ReplyDeleteAnd this week is actually the beginning of DST which might also factor in the ratings. And unless those viewers are members of a Nielsen households it doesn't really matter. I just dont think Reign can achieve the same ratings as it does with VD as lead in.
ReplyDeleteDon't want to be boring, but Fringe S5 had 0.9-1.1 rating on *Friday* night ... is Kevin Reilly still committed to the "we are not in the business of losing money" idea?
ReplyDeleteMind Games rebounded :-)
ReplyDeleteI would say air last season of Glee in Summer.
ReplyDeleteI would air it on summer 2015 to be honest. They can do better on Fridays. I think it would do Raising Hope kind of levels on Fridays
ReplyDeleteGlee = Mind Games, yet still continues to get all this press and coverage on entertainment sites. I just don't get it. They really should cancel it now. The audience is gone. At the least move it to Friday where it can be paired with that other winner - Rake.
ReplyDeleteGo Agents of SHIELD! Better than the sub 1's from the past two episodes and just further proof that they need to move it AWAY from NCIS. Will probably adjust up in the finals like it normally does
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see SHIELD back in the 2's :)
ReplyDeleteyike about a boy- big decline from last week
ReplyDeleteIt just scored a sub 1 rating and that it was last week when it had a 1.85 final rating. The episode before that had its usual 2.2
ReplyDeleteStill pretty good.
ReplyDeleteFirst, no one cares about GLEE.
ReplyDeleteSecond, no one cares about PPL finale. As long as it is not SERIES finale, then there's nothing new happen in every season finale of PPL.
I think it is in danger, its an expensive show and was expected to have higher ratings wouldnt be suprised if it gets cancelled
ReplyDeleteI was hoping AoS would do higher than that.
ReplyDeleteIt's still good but I am getting a bit nervous about it. I really like it so I really want it to stick around. I think Fisher is more impressive than it is.
ReplyDeleteLot of drops this week.
ReplyDeleteI think Glee is costing New Girl/B99 some casual viewers. It's one thing to sit through a half hour of Dads....sitting through an HOUR of Glee is honestly a chore. Hell I think Glee being an hour long is hurting itself.
If they stay <1.5, they will definitely get renewed.
ReplyDeleteagree its better than more nbc comedy but could it anchor a new nigh with out the voice?
ReplyDeleteExactly, it's fallen so low.
ReplyDeleteDayLights Savings started
ReplyDeleteTrophy Wife is gone...
ReplyDeleteGoldbergs either Wed after The Middle or Friday after LMS but I think Subgateroy might get Friday

The Glee fans care about Glee. The PLL fanatics care about PLL. So what makes you say no one cares?
ReplyDeleteHow big an issue is Daylight Savings? Are people missing their shows cause of the time change or something?
ReplyDeleteDoes that typically make that much of a difference?
ReplyDeleteIt will probably adjust up but still, I was also hoping for a bit higher.
ReplyDeleteok for sheild but it still a disappointment
ReplyDeleteBut really though, SpoilerTV is great :) !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOuch Fox, especially Glee!
ReplyDeleteGreat night for NBC.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it could anchor, let's say, Thursdays. But move to the Tuesday 8pm hour while the voice goes to 9pm to help a 10pm drama is certainly possible.
ReplyDelete4 new episodes below 1.0, that's so ugly
ReplyDeleteNot like 100th episodes of GLEE will make this show gain from 0.9 to 3.0 or something and not like the season finale of PPL suddenly rose to 2.0. So, when you say "The Originals is gonna die next week..." just unacceptable unless you can see the future.
ReplyDeletei can see that but not thrusdays
ReplyDeleteThe Voice jumping 0.7 at the half hour is crazy.
ReplyDeleteFox really jumped the gun when they renewed Glee for double seasons
ReplyDeleteAgents of SHIELD back in the 2's, will adjust up no doubt.
ReplyDeletesome think so others don't- if anything 8 o clock shows get most affected
ReplyDeleteThey could also turn the final season into a mini-series-Nikita-style and air it like a special event
ReplyDeleteCW was preempted in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteThe Originals is up(Unless there was a premption). Interesting. I think we could say now it's a hit for the CW. or was depending on what the departure does for the network.
ReplyDeleteand there it is. lol.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's time to FOX find another day for its comedies?
ReplyDeleteNew Girl and B99 doing same number now as The Mindy Project. I know they wanna build up the B99 audience but they should have just kept The Mindy Project as is
ReplyDeleteThumbs Up TO & CF...they deserve it
ReplyDeleteThe CW should totally renew Supernatural repeats ;). It got higher than most of the channels original programming.
ReplyDeleteCW has preempted for NBA basketball in Chicago. So we will probably see some changes in finals.
ReplyDeleteAh fair enough. I thought it was weird that a repeat of Supernatural would be only 0.1 below the last original Arrow. (although Arrow was unusually low and I'm sure will bounce back next week).
ReplyDeleteFunny you should bring that up. Also, NONE of FOX's gambits coming into 2014 have worked.
ReplyDeleteplus it usually wins the male 18-34 demo.
ReplyDeleteS.H.I.E.L.D. tied The Voice for the lead in the hour with Men 18-34 and finished as the #1 scripted series in its slot for its 15th-consecutive original telecast with young men.
Yeah there is also that
ReplyDeleteI didnt realise people being forced to watch the same network for the whole night, I thought the US had heard of remote controls?
ReplyDeleteGlee makes money thats why its still on the air, but yes it should either move to Friday next season or to the spring/summer. The show shot itself in the foot last season with its lack of direction. The move completely over to NYC isnt going to save the ratings now, its too late but maybe the quality can improve for the rest of its run.
ReplyDeleteI have watch every season and its clear with each season why viewers are being lost, there is a complete lack of coherency/direction. Most fans predicted the old cast graduating and trying to replace them was a bad idea. The idea to move to NYC and follow the shows more popular characters might have been the better way to go all along. But oh well, I will keep enjoying it for the rest of its run.
ReplyDeleteActually i think they sell ADs for advertisers with certain projected ratings and if it doesn't meet them they have to pay a penalty
ReplyDeleteI'm talking about casual viewers who are looking for something to put on the TV and they turn on FOX. I think it's easier to hold the attention spans of those viewers if the show changes every half hour. I watch New Girl and Brooklyn 99 every week, and that whole hour of Glee beforehand makes the 8 o'clock hour drag more than it used to when it was Dads/B99/NG/Mindy.
ReplyDelete
