There were some wonderful Jane moments showing his skills and insights into human nature. I loved the way Jane used the whole team to solve the case. He still plays his cards close to his chest when it comes to plotting a plan, but the team is giving him the space he needs to do that. Since his wife was killed, Jane has not let anyone see who he really is. Lisbon is the only one who really knows him, but has never been comfortable with the uncertainty he represents on a personal level. He does go off by himself, but seems to return to Lisbon like a homing pigeon. His sadness seems to have changed since he killed Red John. He is trying to move on, but his feelings of guilt and uncertainty within himself seem to put the brakes on. He seems to be aware of Lisbon moving away from him and is perhaps contemplating to let her go. He seems to be painfully aware, that his last relationship did not end well for the people who loved him and he does not want the same fate to befall Lisbon. I just hope they talk and resolve things one way or another. Jane appears so confident when he is conning people, but on a personal level regarding his feelings and commitments, he seems timid, almost fearful to engage. His heart seems to have been put into a safe and he is not allowing anyone yet to crack it open.
You're post is full of good insights that I'm really sorry that I have to do this - did you use the word pidgeon for a reason...? Because, you know...;)
It was such a fun episode. I loved Jane's con. It was elaborate and include everyone and it was fun. I can't see Lisbon falling for the new guy. I hope Jane realizes what he is missing and wins Lisbon back. Excellent episode.
It was a great sting episode. I think I enjoyed the most was the scene with Jane and Abbott across from the murderer and Jane explained everything and the look on the murderer's face when Jane asked him about the Marching band what song they were playing. I loved how Jane taunted the murderer in custody on how he played him like a big ol' Bassoon.
Hi Kami, I did, because it shows at least two different takes on the same thing, which the Mentalist writers have been so good at. One was using the pigeon as a trick, a magic trick to fool a man who was so sure he had it sorted and had won the game. Big mistake as we know. Also, Jane admitted just before that moment when asked who he thought he was, that he was a "nobody", very humbling for any con-man, especially one who lost his family because he had thought he was somebody.
Using the term homing-pigeon to me, describes a subconscious act of returning to where you feel at home.
I absolutely enjoyed the whole episode, there were so many lovely moments. i mean the way he gave everybody his role and lisbon the dress - her eyes! and the way she rolled her eyes when she welcomed abbott into the house - marvelous. The sad moment in the end ... maybe Jane realises that he is about to loose her if he doesnt work on their "relationship" soon. maybe thats the kick he needed. hopefully! I think the whole episode was just great!
Sth silly, you know, with all the jokes about the ending of RJ arc and the pidgeon:P That's why I was apologising for bringing it into your very good post. ^^"
I think this is going to go down as one of my favorite Mentalist eps ever. Absolutely loved it, especially the Jisbon moments, such as Lisbon with the blanket and the end scene. Sigh!
Pike and Lisbon running off in love, er lust his pick up lines are a bad cliche. Ew! did it not take Mashburn longer? It had a desperate tone Lisbon looked the best she has in a long time.
Cho extra annoyed with Jane 0-0 Rigsby and Pelt never to be heard again.
Thanks for that. It all depends on how you look at things, there are so many angles. I had seen some of the jokes .... it takes all sorts to make this world go round. Hope you have a sunny day.
Yes. I like more episodes like this. It combined all the things I like about the Mentalist into one episode. The only thing missing was Rigsby and van Pelt.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Can we pick the whole episode?
ReplyDeleteThe blanket scene:)
ReplyDeletealthough I hope the last scene will lead to Jane do some thinking and him acting approprietly:)
the marching band
