Lagertha is classy. Ragnar's new wife is the one that I believe is selfish. She is the one who broke up their marriage. Lagertha left Ragnar for impregnating another woman and then that woman coming and encouraging that Ragnar take two wives. Lagertha had more respect for her son and herself and left. However; she left the choice to leave or come with her up to her son. There is Princess Ansalug worried that Lagertha is gonna cause marital problems is chooses to stay with Bjorn. I think the seer was hinting to Ragnar that Lagertha was the right choice for him.
Lagertha is classy, far more so than Auslaug. she was far more worried about Lagertha coming back for Ragnar and ruining her marriage than she was appreciative that Lagertha came back for Ragnar....TO HELP! It wasn't until Lagertha was leaving that she showed gratitude. I think the Seer was trying to tell Ragnar that he didn't have a choice in the matter one way or the other, proven by him wanting both women and Lagertha choosing to return to her husband.
I appreciated Aslaug thanking Lagertha, and the ladies didn't stereotypically fight over a guy. But it still annoyed the hell out of me when Aslaug told Ragnar she didn't want Lagertha to stay. She's the other woman. She did the exact same thing to Lagertha. No room to ask for that in her glass house.
Agreed. I get why she went back though. She is an honorable woman and she is married to someone else AND the reason why she left in the first place still stands. She's not about to "share" Ragnar with Auslaug. Her leaving definitely answered one of my questions though....I assumed she killed her other hubby, but unfortunately not
It's an interesting turn around...when she turned up, she had the great pedigree and the ability to bear sons while Lagertha was just the daughter of peasants and unlikely to bear more children. Back then, she was okay with a "second wife" - because she would be the first one. But now the tables have turned. Lagertha is now powerful in her own right, her son is all grown up and a credit to her and Aslaug won't be able to get that many more children. And Ragnar doesn't love her but Lagertha. This time around, she would be second to Lagertha and naturally she isn't pleased with the development.
Well, Ragnar didn't wait for the end of the story...which is that the marriage was very unhappy because a mountain loving giantess and a sea god aren't exactly a good fit. But that's what he gets for choosing a women for her pedigree instead of her personality.
Ragnar didn't "choose" her really. if you remember when she first showed up in Kattegat he said that he couldn't turn her away because she was pregnant with his child. If she wasn't I don't think he would be with her. It's a tale as old as time, girl gets pregnant, man ends up with her. I think if anything the "that's what he gets" statement could apply to him in the sense of that's what he gets for cheating on his awesome wife and getting another woman pregnant....
It was ok. I didn't like the ending and I also don't like that the show will now have three separate storyline - one about Ragnar, one about Athelstan and one about Lagertha. It should stay focused on Ragnar.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
So glad Lagertha and Bjorn are back. Slowly getting used to the new Bjorn, but still miss the old one.
ReplyDeleteAnd loved Lagertha fighting alongside the men and being really nice to Ragnar's wife.
Great episode!
i love Lagertha!

ReplyDeleteI don't like that Lagertha left. I hope they find a credible way of bring her character back as a regular soon.
ReplyDeleteYou probably right about the Seers response.
