    CAN'T BELIEVE they made Anne and Aramis slept together?!!! (Ok, so now Louis XIV has a new dad?! ) And I KNEW IT that the nun was Aramis ex! Well, what an episode! Can't wait for newt week! Athos loooks so pissed at Milady!

    Can't wait to see what you all thought of this episode, I know some of what I wasn't able to reveal beforehand was revealed elsewhere so I'm not sure how much you all knew beforehand? I wasn't sure that they would go there with Anne and Aramis this early on, but at least they have gotten all the motivation in place beforehand, even though Louis is dithering between what he actually wants, though I guess that is typical of him anyway, lol.


    Athos was my man of the episode, it was great seeing him lead from the start, from deciding on the split up in the first place to talking to Gallagher right through to facing down the Cardinal at the end. He is so going to go postal in the next episode and I can't bloody wait!!

    Wow, what an action packed episode, with real controversy ( Aramis / Anne - didn't think they'd go there but they have ) lots of tension for Aramis, Athos and even Milady at the hands of the Cardinal and a moment where D'artagnan almost comes across Milady himself.

    And yes, that 'next time' trailer :) crosses fingers for D'artagnan manipulating Milady.

    Was the woman Aramis was in love wth, the same woman mentioned in episode 6?

    This is what I'm wondering. It's possible they will explain the time shift over the course of the first season somehow, or just bring some historical stuff forward (like they will have to with the Cardinal disappearing in S2). Or will Anne visit family for 5 months or so and have a secret illegitimate child who could become another contender for the man in the iron mask?

    So let's talk about the promo!!! Why would Milady need to kidnap Constance if she was able to successfully seduce D'Artagnan? My theory is that Milady will TRY to seduce him, but he'll reject her. Thus, Milady has no choice but to kidnap Constance in order to make D'Artagnan do whatever she wants him to do. Which I'm guessing is kill Athos. Then the musketeers will come up with a plan to trick her. They'll make it look like D'Artagnan will shoot Athos. And that Athos will supposedly "die." It's all a trick and manipulation by our heroes. Athos isn't dying. We all know this.

    Again, in order for Milady to have to kidnap Constance, she'd have to TRULY believe that D'Artagnan loves her and would do literally anything for her. If D'Artagnan will freely sleep with Milady, why would she think he cares about Constance? That part wouldn't make sense to me. Milady would have to think that Constance means a lot to D'Artagnan.


    So I'm not taking that promo to heart. Promos are always made to cause a stir and confusion. And promos are misleading! I shall wait to see the actual episode first!


    Sandi, I'm going to guess MANY fans will be waiting for your preview for episode 10 on Tuesday! Gosh! :)

    Either way, I love your theories. We know in "real life" which we probably shouldn't take into account at all, she had several miscarriages as well. They could expound/exploit that.

    One of the reasons I was thinking that it would be interesting for Anne and Constance to become friends was for this supposed pregnancy, and the possibility of it being passed off as Constance's maybe? Let's face it, her husband is dumb enough to fool I would think, lol. It's maybe not the best reason for having two females being friends in the show, which is why I would like more to it, but I think it might make it interesting.

    I loved seeing the Cardinal lose it with Milady this week, it's about time we saw a nastier side to him, and I liked the fact that the two of them were only just one step ahead of Treville, Porthos and D'Artagnan too, It made for an exciting episode.


    I think that she probably was. I am hoping to get time to do a bit of a rewatch this week before the finale, even if it's while I'm doing housework and what not, I think they have put things here and there throughout the season maybe.

    I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you have just guessed the entire episode plot for the finale! But I have to say if that is the case then I am definitely looking forward to it!! We'd have a bit of everything! Love, sass, fighting, deceit, bromance, fighting, cuteness, trickery, fighting the list goes on. ..

    He was sorely missed in last week's episode that's for sure. I think they have done a great job on giving us little pieces of info on the Musketeers backgrounds over the season, imagining 16 year old Aramis is a very cute thing tbh! ;) lol

    Action packed in more ways than one it had a few surprises one esp being Aramis and Anne the attraction has been there and you cannot blame her , but it was a interesting step they took there with them and I must admit not one I was expecting quite yet but given the circumstances feelings can take over . The Cardinal needs a swift come uppence for the way he gets innocent people caught up in his schemes and manipulates it so they take the blame .

    Athos was a strong presence with not only how he faced Gallagher but the Cardinal at the end. And Milady is certainly walking a tightrope right now , the Cardinal on one hand and Athos on the other not a pretty place to be in.

    I do wonder if that coffin shot is a fake out meant for Milady to think that Athos is really dead, I can't think who else it would be that the Musketeers are lowering into the ground. Maybe Treville, but I would be very upset to lose Hugo Speer from the series too if I'm honest, I just want to believe that it is a fake out I think, lol.


    As for D'Artagnan, as I said on a different post earlier this evening, it wouldn't surprise me if he does get drawn in by Milady somewhat for a while and then over hears something that brings him round to her true ways. Maybe over hearing Constance's maid telling Milady the real reason why she split with him, or something like that which ties in with how he finds out about her true nature in the book. Then the twists and turns start and maybe Constance gets caught up in that. I think it's going to be a a great finale!

    You're right about Milady, it's going to be interesting to see how she plays it. As we see her say in the trailer (and as the episode is called) it's not easy to kill a Musketeer, I have a feeling that her plan it to turn them against each other so that they kill each other, that being the easiest way to achieve the Cardinal's request. But, it depends on whether they see her game, and at what point in its execution. I can't wait to see how they turn it all around :)

    I think it's a fake...especially with Athos warning how the lady behind the assassination attempt was "dangerous." If it was really d'Artagnan vs Athos, I think they would have kept it as a surprise. To really get us in the gut! But, I guess we will wait and see.

    It was something Scoobie brought up in the preview thread, I really like the idea. The female roles are going down well already so let's have them interacting more with each other too, which is also going back to the source material where Constance is Anne's maid and confidant.

    Athos was fab, great episode for him, his last lines where just chilling, no wonder the Cardinal is so blooming worried next week! lol. I also loved Louis' reaction to seeing Anne again, so adorkable! Gage played him perfectly again this week, the drunken rant and passing it on to the Cardinal to deal with, the very, very subtle thankful glance to him when he realised that he'd set Mellendorf up for the fall, the panic when he realised that he suddenly couldn't see himself without Anne by his side and the enormity of what he had set in motion, and the gratitude that she was safe and he could go on as normal. Brilliant performance throughout!

    He does doesn't he, he plays such a superb villain, much prefer him in those roles to the good guy if I'm honest. His Luther baddie was chilling, though I don't expect this to be in the same league as it's not the same hard hitting style, lol. I would love him to be the new Master on Doctor Who up against Capaldi, but that is just a fan girl dream :(

    It actually has me most looking forward to his scenes with Milady. She comes across so elegant and sophisticated that sometimes I forget the extent of her criminal past. She wasn't always so refined! Can't wait to see exactly how they know each other.

    Also has me quite concerned for poor Constance who looks like she is about to be groped in one of the episode 10 images. LOL.

    Yeah, I'm wondering if she knew him from before her marriage to Athos or maybe from when she was 'in the gutter', as the Cardinal referenced it, when he found her. It looks like he spends most of his time in the tavern with prostitutes and cut throats from the trailer, though from his name he could be a poet we worked out in the press release thread.

    Haha yes, loved Porthos' line about how his mum had dressed him XD I thought it was a great opener, the dynamics between the calm waters with Anne and then their rough and tumbling. It also set up Aramis' restless nature and showed us that he was indeed not going to be happy without some excitement in his life, even though at first he thought that he was in paradise while at the pool.

    I was just musing elsewhere that I wouldn't be surprised if nine months on fro. Tonight's encounter, we hear the pitter patter of tiny boots and a cry of "En Garde!" Followed by an umbilical cord being cut in one swish! You just know he'll be his fathers son lol!

    Yep, given the huge popularity of the Constance/D'Artagnan pairing I did wonder if the Beeb might have been slightly concerned about the cut of the promo. That it might have just put a musket ball in their own foot. The ratings are a huge issue these days and while I thought it was great and full of energy and excitement, I could certainly see where it might have confused and alienated some fans, which could have resulted in a switch off. Personally, I'm sold and can't wait for next week and now it seems we're getting a bit more lovin from "Constagnan" all the better.

    Yes Sunny and Sandi, loved that scene where they're scuffing up his new uniform. I'll miss his studded leather jackety thing though. He rocks that distressed look. If I was Constance, I'd get him to wear it for me on special occasions....those occasions would be frequent...lol.

    I will have other things to say but I did so love Athos in this episode (and Aramis). I love the little personal conversation they had via shouting it across the convent. Plus, snarky Athos was kind of awesome. Not that he hasn’t been snarky in episodes before, but he plays it so dryly, in this episode I particularly loved it.

    One moment that stood out in that regard was when he and Aramis were down to their last two shots - the little wry twitch to Athos’s mouth as he asked Aramis, “Did you get him?” lol. So funny to me.



    And though I'm not sure how I feel about the whole Aramis/Anne situation, Athos catching them, and Aramis's expression was well played. I liked how Aramis pretty much emerged to let Athos yell at him, and then, "You good?"


    "Yeah."

    I think it very much showed that Aramis can get caught up in his own fantasies without necessarily recognizing that they are, in fact, fantasies. When Sister Helene asked, "Can you see it?" Aramis's answer was so adamant, I believed that he believed it - as he likely has the vice of not seeing all the parts of himself that others might.


    I did think it was interesting that Helene showed quite a knack for warfare, and we know Aramis can be spiritual (so maybe they would have been a better match than she believed).


    Either way it was a bit of a heartbreaking twist (though not so much of a twist, since it was kind of predictable that Helene would die) to have that story emerge and end so quickly. It made me want even more to get Aramis's full reaction to finding out Adele was killed for having an affair with him. (I know I'm beating a dead horse, but, seriously).

    I think so, too! :) That's why this photo specifically appeared right after the tv promo aired. They could have just released another photo of Constance alone. But they released a photo of D'Artagnan and Constance specifically kissing and holding each other. :) Thankfully! Fans were SO HAPPY to see that photo. That image is all over twitter and tumblr now. So good news travels fast!


    By the way, I was just now re-watching the promo again. And I paused when Milady told D'Artagnan "The question is, can I trust you?" And at this point, his back is turned to her. And I'm VERY sure Milady is holding a gun to the back of his head as she is standing behind him. It's very clear when you pause at that exact moment. So perhaps, it could be when Milady tells D'Artagnan that she has Constance and tells him what he must do in order to save her. I also think the D'Artagnan/Athos arguments are really about D'Artagnan trying to save Constance...in terms of doing what Milady told him to do.

    Ah, so happy they kiss again, though Constance may still have to be married in series 2.

    I was a bit worried they'd be some anger from Constance in the series final, directed at D'artagnan for leaving her completely alone.

    I'm wondering if the scent of Jasmine might just play a part in this. If he gets even momentarily up close and personal again with Milady next week, he may smell that scent once again, that he was struggling to pin point in the money lenders office. This may be the point at which he realises that Milady is the assassin. Given that they've actually cast an actress to play the maid, it would suggest that rather than just silently pinning out the clothes or being seen in a reaction shot, she will have some lines to deliver. Whether she is in the pocket of Milady, who has been in the Bonacieux's home before and indeed left her floral calling card on D'Artagnan's pillow, or she is desperate to save her mistress and reveals just what she may have overheard, we don't have that long to wait to find out.

    I somehow was expecting it...as soon as Louis complained about the lack of child and her going to the sea or whatever it was in order to become fertile, I expected Aramis to sleep with her - and her becoming pregnant. Let's see if it will happen that way.
    I love the interaction of Athos and the lead nun.
    Louis doesn't know what he wants, right?

    I think he learnt a lot about himself through that experience, it's a shame that it took her death in some ways for him to realise it but I suppose that mirrors how life lessons are learnt I guess. And yes, the contrast between the way she took to his way of life was interesting too, as was the little ways she obviously never gave up on bits of his life like using his fathers recipe for the brandy. He was an important part of her life always.


    I mentioned in my preview that it was a short but sweet and I would have preferred it to have lasted longer, but I think it did at least function well in the time it did have. So many people in this episode, unreal that they were all as believable as they were I think. The Mother Superior was fab too, as was Gallagher and I also liked the Musketeer cavalry guys (and Cleopatra the old musket, killed as many as her namesake XD). Still totally with you on Adele though :(

    I think he did mean it, though he probably wouldn't have said it if he wasn't pass out drunk at the time. During the scene when he comes back to the palace after hunting there are a couple of glances between him and the Cardinal where I get the impression he clocks what has gone on, but maybe doesn't want to quite believe it. I guess it's down to personal impression though, it's something I thought on the third time I watched it.

    Loved Athos in this, his leadership, his chastising of Aramis, his snark and especially his last few words with the Cardinal, wow what a loaded sentence to leave the episode on! Milady certainly gets under his skin and he just can't help himself from reacting to it, even after Treville says wait until we have more, lol.

    So glad you enjoyed it, I did worry if I'd built it up too much after you said Exiles was your previous favorite too. Andy Hay has done a brilliant job with both episodes, both are great scripts anyway, but I think this one just beats the other.

    Oh, I know Constance told D'artagnan she didn't love him anymore - from his POV :( - and that he had every right to walk away but several people have commented that D'artagnan should have noticed that Constance was on the verge of tears when she said what she did and maybe Constance might have started to feel the same way after festering on her own for several weeks. I just know that sometimes, drama producers like to stick the knife in when it comes to happy couples and they would have found a way ( if they'd wanted to ) of making Constance less receptive to D'artagnan upon being reunited.

    I thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's episode. Athos and Aramis were deliciously heroic defending Queen Anne against Gallagher and his mercenaries. Athos had so many wonderful lines, but my favorites were his discussion about "honor" and soldiers with Gallagher, his reaction to finding Aramis in bed with Anne (LOL!!), and my absolute favorite was his deadly cold and calm threat to the Cardinal (SWOON!!).

    I also was happy to receive further knowledge of Aramis's background, and it was nice to see the relationship that Aramis alluded to in his conversation with Agnes in "The Exiles" expounded on. My heart broke for Aramis when he wasn't able to save Isabelle (AKA Sister Helen)., and I'm curious to see if his night with Anne will result in pregnancy.

    Lastly, I found the Mother Superior character to be a delightful supporting player. Her wit and gritty attitude whilst organizing the nuns to fight Gallagher's men were welcome additions to the story.

    All in all, a great episode. I cannot wait for the season finale next week.

    You summed up why I loved the Mother Superior as well .And I think it is one of the reasons why this show has become my favourite it has no fear of showing strong female characters whether it is ones we see has leading or support like the Mother Superior and Isabelle although we all got to know her for a short time displayed that strength as well.

    I think D'Artagnan should have realised something was up, he was an idiot in some ways not to think of things from her point of view, but he is very young and foolish still in some ways which the show reminds us again and again, lol. I think it will be a sweet reunion, but it will be interesting to see where it goes from here I just hope they both proceed in a less selfish manner from after the kidnap, then the fans in general will take to it better and get behind them more.

    I'm with you about Aramis being caught up in his own fantasies. I think he thinks of himself as a hopeless romantic but as Helen pointed out, you can see that he's restless and wouldn't be able to live a normal peaceful life without the excitement of a danger (the birds scene was actually great example of this contrast and totally cracked me up :D).

    I think the Cardinal's plan from the start could have been for Louis to fall for Charlotte and orchestrated the meeting and him getting drunk knowing that he would talk recklessly. Maybe this wasn't even the first time that he had tried a scheme like this, there could have been other prospective rich suitors paraded in front of him when Louis didn't take the bait perhaps. He's very much Louis' puppet master isn't he, and Capaldi is very subtle in his portrayal, you can almost see him pulling the strings. But I think that he acted on what the King said before he passed out because Milady was dispatched afterwards to hire Gallagher and his soldiers.


    I kind of fear for Milady too, she's slowly but surely grown on me, I think the point you made in another thread about how they have slowly grown the Cardinal from a grey character to an evil one has maybe been part of the problem with her. We've always known that she is bad from almost the start, she murdered someone and framed D'Artagnan in episode 1, but due to the threats not building until this point in the series she hasn't been able to fulfil her full potential as a character until now and therefore hasn't quite fitted in.


    Love Aramis, and Santigo, as much as ever and I think they very carefully put all the motivation and justification in place for him and Anne in this episode and over the last few weeks, but even a week after seeing it unfold I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it. I love the chat he and Athos had afterwards though, one of the highlights of the episode in fact - "Are we good?" XD I think everyone is expecting a pregnancy due to the fertility lake, but I also don't want Louis XIV yet really The idea of a secret child could be interesting though, we've had hints of Anne recoiling from Louis' touch (and saw another example when he kissed her forehead in the last scene) so she could believably stay away from him for a couple of months and then 'holiday' somewhere for her health for a few more. I'd also like to see more of a rift between the King and Queen happen maybe in season two, like there is in the books.


    I adored Athos :D Treville tells them all to wait until they have more proof before going after the Cardinal and he just walks right up to him and basically threatens him anyway..yeah, Milady doesn't make him lose his cool at all XD. Gonna be a flipping epic finale after that, just gotta be!

    I highly recommend it, swashbuckling heroes, strong females characters and tight, well written & acted episodes :D The pilot is probably the weakest of the series, so if you like that one then I think you could get hooked, much like we have become, lol.

    I think your analysis of Milady's evolution is really accurate. I hope she will be in season 2, because she is well settle now and I think the second series would benefit from an already known villain. I don't know who I would like to see at her side though... Rochefort maybe, although at the end of the books he makes peace with d'Artagnan (who kills him I believe. It's not recent in my mind !). Or the Duke of Buckingham, as a villain ? He has quite a wicked reputation... In reality as well as in the books. But the casting must be impeccable ! Not like in other shameful-adaptations-I-won't-name-here... An actor charming but with something dangerous and a little "mad" about him... lol Anyway ! We'll see =D


    I think (or I hope) we'll learn a little bit more about the direction the writers intend to take Aramis and Anne's relationship next season during the Finale. I hope it will be intelligent, and not too depressing or too "soapy" lol


    I think the finale is going to be "all about Athos", and I'm really pleased with this perspective. I like that guy. Lol

    Yeah, I think it's going to be about Athos, Milady, D'Artagnan with the Cardinal thrown in there a bit more behind the scenes. I'm really interested in how they do Capaldi's exit, they had 2 months to sort it out after knowing he had the Doctor's role so it should be a satisfying one, I kinda hope he doesn't just die.


    Hmm, dream casting for a partner for Milady, maybe Aneurin Barnard? He's fab, though I think he's kinda busy these days :(

Perhaps he'll start to put some of this stuff together, particularly if the scenes between them take place at her home, rather than the Garrison, which seems more likely. He may find the flower and the scent and make the vital connections.

    I'm not sure how I feel about Aramis/Anne either, but Athos' whole reaction was a total highlight for me too. I laughed out loud at the initial silent exchange, where Aramis clearly hears Athos approaching, and then when Athos steps into view and they look at each other. Tom Burke played it so well, just that little head shift when he saw them and the shift in the entirety of his body language, so much was conveyed in that one moment and you could just hear his thoughts. 'Son of a b****, Aramis.'


    And I liked the end of their exchange. "Shout if you need me."


    "Why would I need you?"


    Followed by Athos' frustrated expression and head shake.


    Oh, they're so good.

    Well I would have loved to but I'm reading the books, and I've always been ahead of the series, so I could watch it, but I haven't had as much time to read lately, and there's some characters I would be spoiled with, because the last couples of volumes released were a little differents from the rest of the books. I'll explain with an example : I'm farther in the story with Jaime and the Lannisters, but with Bran, I'm exactly where season 4 begins ! The author separated is characters in two groups, to be able to tell each stories properly. So the volume I'm reading at the time is going back in time, but from the perspective of a new set of characters.

    I don't know if I've been clear lol so sorry. And it is a little frustrated because, first of all, I know that the writers of the show have taken a lot of liberties with each characters' story line, but in the mean time they kept the major plots, so I don't want to spoil the books with the show. I don't really mind some (little tiny) spoilers for a TV show, but in the contrary, it spoils all the pleasure when reading a book imo. (Even though I already know what's going to happen to Jaime and some other characters...)

    That's a shame though. It would have been so much fun to make theories like we do here for Game of Thrones !

    If I manage to finish up the books, be sure I'll come and say "hi!" to you, as a Jaime lover ;) He is, in fact, my favorite character, alongside Tyrion.

    (and by the way, it's like Nikolaj had come directly from the book ! He is the perfect actor for the character)

    Yeah, D'Artagnan definitely should have noticed something was way off. But again, he had a LOT on his plate in that episode. Losing his father's farm, being broke, training for a big competition, etc...He went through a roller coaster of emotions.


    And I still don't see how D'Artagnan and Constance are being selfish. She was forced to marry a man she didn't love. That's not a real marriage. You can't force someone to marry you...And as we saw, Bonacieux has zero interest in his wife in the romantic sense. He doesn't love her. He hasn't even kissed her once. So, should she give up her chance of happiness in order to stay loyal to a husband that she was forced to marry and who doesn't even love her at all? That would be unfair to her.


    And honestly, based on twitter/tumblr/youtube/message boards, fans are already loving D'Artagnan and Constance together a whole lot. :) :) :) And majority of fans actually just want for her hubby, Bonacieux, to die or leave the show! LOL.

    I agree that The Musketeers' writers have given us so many strong female characters this season. Constance, Anne, Ninon, Agnes, Alice, Flea, Isabelle, and Mother Superior are among the most memorable ones for me. I also like how even though these women all come from varied backgrounds and circumstances they are not locked into society's definition of what a woman was expected to be at that time.

    I also like how The Musketeers' writers haven't weakened the males leads. I love strong female characters, but I hate weak male leads, and I have seen shows/films create wimpy males in order to strengthen their female characters. Nothing makes me turn the channel faster either, but The Musketeers' writers have shown they know how to achieve a balance between the masculine and feminine characters. I also think they know their audience. They certainly have given me what I enjoy most: strong, honorable, heroic, and complex men and equally strong, kind, and intelligent women to go head-to-head with them. Plus horses, beautiful period settings, lots of swashbuckling action scenes, and classic literature. *sighs happily*

    Yeah he did have a lot on his plate, and he is young and inexperienced, him going through these learning curves is his journey really and it's an interesting one to watch him go through. He's certainly not the young man he was at the start of the season :D


    I understand about Constance's marriage totally, I really do, but the fact that neither of them did anything to get out of that arrangement before giving in to each other makes them selfish. I just can't condone having an affair behind her husbands back, even they agreed that it was very wrong for them to do. Constance also sold things from her husbands house to pay for D'Artagnan to enter the challenge, again this is something I can't condone as anything but selfish behaviour.


    I'm not saying she should give up her chance of happiness with D'Artagnan at all, I'm just saying that they should now go about it the right, and honourable, way. I too see many fans on-line, those that aren't specifically fans of the ship, and there is a lot of noise about how bad their behaviour has been, and many do not see why her husband should die as he's not really a villain as yet, though he does have the potential to become one. I hope that they both come out of the finale wiser and move forward in a more positive way, as I really do think they deserve to, but I would like to see them do it with out dishonour and having to sneak about meeting in secret.

    I love the writing on the show it is in stark contrast to the writing on what used to be my favourite show who cannot write for one of the leads let alone strong female characters. Everybody fits in with each other and you can root for the girls as well as the boys .

    To be fair, Aramis has not only just slept with a married woman but the Queen, who's duty is to give the King a legitimate male heir - no matter how 'tasteless' that is to modern eyes. I do think viewers tend to forgive the bad behaviour of their favourite characters more than they do characters they like less, I noticed this when I was in Torchwood fandom. I agree that wanting Mr B to die is taking things a bit too far though. When Aramis slept with the Queen, he wasn't thinking with his head but his heart, which is why Athos couldn't quite believe that he'd done it. I really hope Queen Anne isn't pregnant after this encounter.

    What I love about D'artagnan is that he's very much the most open and natural of the main characters ( because of his youth ) and so is Constance, which is why they work so well together.

    Yeah, I can't quite believe they have taken it that far with Aramis and Anne either, as I said in the preview thread it's treason as it messes about with the line of succession, and we know how that turned out for other Queens and the men they had affairs with in history, lol. I'm not particularly happy with either of them, I do think the motivations are in place (as they are in Constance's and D'Artagnan's case) but I have been against them having an affair since they were first attracted in episode 2 so I'm not sure why you think I'm forgiving their bad behaviour? I certainly don't want them to do anything again, at most I have wanted Aramis to be someone she can trust, he is a great listener and would make a confidant she could trust to advise her wisely.


    I really have got behind D'Artagnan and Constance, they're a great. As you say, their open and trusting nature make them a sweet couple, I have great hopes that they do make it together. We have been seeing D'Artagnan learn lessons throughout this season, which makes me think that this break up could also be a lesson of sorts. That lesson being, do it right next time round. If a relationship is so right and perfect then it should be true and exclusive, and not with a third person in it. They deserve better than that as a couple, and so does her husband whose feelings should be considered too. I don't think he will take it well though, lol. But then that could be a plot taken forward to season 2 maybe, and then he can be developed into a proper villain, which would be interesting to explore if he hooked up with Milady perhaps?

    I was on tumblr this morning and saw a few posts from a few fans who'd love Queen Anne to be pregnant with Aramis's child, when for me, I'd feel dissapointed in the show for doing just that. It would turn what was a bittersweet attraction between Aramis and Anne into something a bit more 'Eastenders' if you know what I mean and because there's been less criticism of Aramis and Anne than there was D'artagnan and Constance for starting an affair, I was a bit surprised.

    Lol, it just shows how addictive this show has been for some of us.. :)

    You're right about Constance's husband and I definately feel that if he and Constance are still married in series 2, that she and D'artagnan should remain just friends until circumstances change. I've got no idea how either 'coupling' is going to turn out.

    What's going to happen with Milady remains the most interesting thing of all - will she go 'independent' as it were?

So often I see writers *try* to write a strong female role but they totally weaken the male characters to do it (because there's apparently no way a woman can be fully fledged and awesome with awesome men around - sarcasm). And/or the women end up being these cardboard cutouts encompassing a hodgepodge amalgamation of tropes. I've loved how they've avoided those pitfalls with this show.

    I realise that getting out of this marriage isn't going to be an easy thing to do in a Catholic country, but even leaving her husband to set up with D'Artagnan would be more preferable than continuing to stay under his roof. It's a tricky one for sure, but that's where the drama is. Without the Cardinal around in S2 she will be in a better situation to make a move though.

    I don't think she said anything about excusing Aramis. And I don't think Aramis or the Queen are under any delusions that what they did was right.


    I also think that to pave the way for d'Artagnan/Constance to really be sold as a couple to all the fans, they do need to change the general approach going forward. Fans wanting her husband dead because he gets in the way of the ship seems a little diminishing of the potential storylines, and kind of narrow-focused.


    He's been a bit of a buffoon but not an out-and-out villain. While his reaction to discovering the affair brought with it some cruelty, the sneaking around and treating him like a villain before he was one just hasn't sat right with me (and who wouldn't react negatively to discovering their partner was having an affair?). Plus, it's kind of the fact that d'Artagnan and Constance have acted a bit entitled to their affair.


    They're young, impulsive, and I actually love each of them, but this idea that they're justified in their actions just because they love each other seems to make the fans perceive that they can do no wrong. That they don't have to be smart or honorable about it, or consider the full ramifications of the reality of their situation.

    I haven't followed the reactions online, and haven't really checked in anywhere but this thread, but I think the fact that Aramis and Anne just happened, and d'Artagnan/Constance is now a few episodes out, there needs to be a little more time before full fan reaction is judged. All I can say is Aramis and Anne are probably a little less delusional regarding their own behavior, but I still think it's just got to be tricky to ship. Even with the justification that Louis drunkenly set the kill-her plot in motion, it doesn't make the choice they made very awesome.

    It certainly doesn't, an affair is an affair whether it's a one night stand or a 10 year long relationship, both can be just as devastating to the other person involved. I don't think I will ever get my head around a true love partnership that is lying and sneaking around a third person, that's not how adults are meant to behave. Both sets of couples have obstacles as far as I can see, Constance & D'Artagnan can over come theirs, though they may be difficult, but Aramis and Anne should never have really gone there in the first place.

    Hey there :) In the book D'Artagnan proclaims his love for Constance many times, she works for Anne and doesn't see her husband very often as she lives at the palace most of the time, coming home only once in a while. She is flattered by D'Artagnan's attentions, and they are very friendly with each other, but they do not have any kind of relationship. D'Artagnan also loves Milady for a while, before finding out that she is bad, and then tricks her. In revenge Milady poisons Constance.


    Aramis and Anne don't have a relationship, he is however in a relationship with a secret confidant of Anne's that she is not allowed to be in contact with. In fact, his lover is not allowed to even be in Paris. Anne & Louis do not get on at all, their relationship is terrible, they barely talk and Anne is kept isolated from her friends.

    Lol yeah, it's very different in some ways. Most adaptations ignore the no relationship between D'Artagnan and Constance and have them get together in some way at least. This adaptation has the King & Queen getting on much better than they probably did in real life, and in the novels, though otherwise they are more or less based on the real thing. Louis was a bit of a weak, childlike man who let his Cardinals run the country for him and Anne was the more grown up one. Their son was probably one of the best, and longest serving, ruler Europe has ever had though in contrast, lol.
