It wasn't as great as the pilot, but I still really liked it! The kids are so stupid, though. Why do they keep going in the possibly radioactive river?
At least they know they're taking off the bands and not dead.
These kids are not the smartest group of people. They really need to be trying to build themselves a shelter or something. It's probably going to have to rain at some point - it's like they aren't preparing to live down there at all.
I know it's only been two episodes I'm starting to like this show hope it last but I have to say the kids are stupid instead of playing around they should be building a stable shelters and weapons since they know there not alone instead of being against each other
I'm really liking this show, although I have to admit the stupid kids are getting on my nerves. You're in the middle of forest, when you've lived all your life in a spaceship, with no food or shelter, or any idea on what's really out there, and all they want to do is fool around? Obviously the oxygen depravation has been going on for longer than they've let us know, that's the only posible explanation to why they are so STUPID! But I suppose that since they're in theory 100 kids (yeah I know, 98 or even 97, if Adam is left hanging there for too long) they need to shows us the expendable ones, since the good ones (Clarke's pals) and the bad ones (Bellamy's gang) have been stablished since the beggining. That aside, I think it was a very solid second episode, and I hope it keeps last weeks ratings.
Bearing in mind that these kids have probably never seen real wood or real earth, it doesn't surprise me that they're kind of inept at practical tasks such as surviving
Our SpoilerTV Roundtable discussion with a couple of spoilers for next week's episode is online here >> http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/03/the-100-earth-skills-roundtable.html
Klutzy: I got the vibe in the first episode that they were the guinea pig group only. They were to be sent down to test a theory: that theory being that the ark people needed to find out if the Earth had recovered yet. The Ark obviously has no way to test this themselves (im guessing nothing along the line of unmanned probes).
What is interesting is that they gave this group the 'shoddy' re-entry vehicle, you wont the guinea pigs to survive to get to the surface to test your theorys.
Another issue Im seeing:
Lets say the Ark people decide to repopulate the Earth. How are they all going to get there? The population number seems to be way too high for those smallish vessels which might mean some people would never get to return to earth.
I thought this episode was better than the pilot. Less silly lines and scenes. Also I love how slowly the group lines are being drawn. Bellamy is probably the most interesting character so far and I wonder how far he will go to stay in power.
A lot of people complain about the kids being silly and naive but they need to understand most of them were locked up for years and never learned anything significant. Also being born and raised in the Ark they probably have no idea how to build some kind of defense or shelter. There's a reason why everyone was building weapons from ship parts and not from wood.
Wow, this show is already taking a more darker, intense turn and I love it!
The Grounder was creepy as hell and sets up some insanely cool mythology for the show. I can't wait to find out more about them.
It will be interesting to see if Raven will be able to fix the escape pod in time so that she and Abby can go down to Earth without getting caught working illegally.
just an ok ep for me... the stuff on the Ark still seems more interesting and all the stuff on the kids come off weakly written and needing a large dose of disbelief suspension. It might get better when folks from the Ark start making to the ground via escape pod or whatever. I'm still not sold on this show as yet but will give it one more ep.
Plus maybe they've been in Prison since some of them were younger so if that's so I doubt they would know how to do a lot of stuff that you would know if you were raised on Earth or if their parents like Clarke's dad taught them a few things.
Haven't seen this episode yet but I've read the book. They are indeed the guinea pig group.
Slight book spoilers here:
The 100 are glorified guinea pigs to test if the Earth is safe to land on. All the satellites, probes and remaining ships have been merged into the Ark and they can't really waste anything (resources are already limited). So they're sending down the unprivileged/dead weight so they can actually do something (live or die, either way they provide readings back to the Ark). Not everyone agree's that the Earth is actually worth testing though.
The Ark has a privileged system, if your lucky enough then you get educated and can actually do something. Those privileged people can actually learn more about the earth too. None of the 100 are privileged. Clarke's parents are part of that privileged group though (and using their ID's was how she's learnt about stuff she shouldn't have). I'd assume those same privileged people would be the ones sent down to earth if they are to repopulate it.
Going by the attitude/behavior of these kids we'd never know that what's left of the human race is knocking on "Extinction's Door". The concept and story so far is interesting enough so I'm still onboard for now. The episode was pretty good, but like a "Filler" episode didn't really give us anything new...............except the possibility of tree climbing "Killer Mutants". OH MY! 4 THE 100 PLUS 1, I am Nobody!!!
I havent seen this ep yet, but for people complaining about them not building shelter and stuff like this. They lived their whole life in space and there was probably no training bevause only a few people know that they will run out of food and others didnt even know that their kids are being sent back, so if there was training, people would know sth is going on and they would start panicking.
i dont know why but i really like Bellamy. I wonder how far he will go. i get this sense that he is or will be a good guy in the future or i hope he is. very interesting.
Loved it. This show is progressing very well. I like how dark it is especially for this network, so I am hoping it does well in ratings. I can't wait to see if Abby & Raven will get the pod ready to work, it would be nice to see someone else pop down from the Ark. I'm not too thrilled about the love triangle they are hinting at, if Raven is Finn's girlfriend. I hope it stays in the background at least. Those human bones have me intrigued! Wish we had someone more sciency (?) on the ground. Bellamy is being the predictable leader right now but I think he'll soften as the show goes on, just maybe not toward his sister's boyfriends. I wonder how long til they encounter more grounders or if they'll just be watched for a few more eps? This show is really shaping up to be a good one.
I think Bellamy will soften and that will cost him his position as leader. I'm sure two or three groups will be formed before the season ends.
The CW probably doesn't want to scare their audience so the show will get darker slowly. Also the actress who plays Clarke said that survival will be the main focus and that romance will be more of a secondary plot and I hope they keep it that way.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

They have ruled out the radiation danger.
ReplyDeleteThe first book ( The 100 ) has been available since early 2013. The 2nd book ( Day 21 ) is released on September 16 this year.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yea after posting this I went and looked for it. I will read it soon :)
ReplyDeleteDid you know I had no idea this was a book series? Im not sure im going to read it though, it might distort my view of the show.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information though.

ReplyDeletei really hope bellamy softens

It seems like the tv show is very different from the book. The book is all about romance.
ReplyDeleteI read that since they were exposed to Solar Radiation while living on the Ark that they're immune to it a little.
ReplyDeleteLike the survival/sci-fi feel of the show. The romance? not that much.
ReplyDeleteWell thank god that hasnt translated to tv then. Oh for a tv show without 'ships
ReplyDeleteThat grounder has so much better face mask compared to bane's in Batman The Dark Knight Rises lol
