Sober Companion - Nick Frost gets Co-Lead Role
In one of the biggest casting coups for Fox this season, the network has tapped British writer-actor Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Paul) nickfrost1as the lead opposite Justin Long in comedy pilot Sober Companion. Written/exec produced by David S. Rosenthal & Jennie Snyder Urman, Sober Companion centers on Robert (Frost), a charming, but self-destructive attorney who finds his world turned upside down when a court-appointed sober companion (Long) takes control of his life. Frost’s Robert is intelligent, driven and an addict. So drunk that he does a faceplant in court, he is assigned a sober companion for the next 90 days, and must either stay away from everything he deems to be fun, or lose his job and probably his liberty.

It centers on Nick (Stults), a successful, suave ladies man working as a sportscaster for a local Los Angeles TV station whose perfect life gets turned upside down when his mess of a cousin needs a place to stay. Rupp plays Merle, Nick’s sweet, no-nonsense, widowed mother who lives nearby. Anders plays Stacey, the smart, tough lead anchor of the local news in L.A. where Nick does the sports.

Joseph A. Nunez (Super Bad, NCIS) has booked a role in ABC comedy pilot The Winklers from Everybody Loves Raymond creator Phil Rosenthal; Henry Winkler’s son, director Max Winkler; and son-in-law, actor Rob Reinis. Based on Henry Winkler’s relationship with his son-in-law, Reinis, Winklers centers on Jack (Domenick Lombardozzi), an emotionally reserved construction worker who learns about love, life and hugs while unexpectedly living with his in-laws — successful actor Henry (Winkler) and Tita Winkler (Judith Light), the fabulous, fierce momma bear of the family. Nunez will play Paco, a construction worker on Jack’s crew whose secret passion is dance.

A workplace ensemble set in 1962, Mission Control examines what happens when a strong woman (Krysten Ritter) butts heads with a macho astronaut (Tommy Dewey) in the race to land on the moon. Nenninger will play Gordie, an earnest, good looking member of Dr. Mary Kendrick’s (Ritter) crew.

Modine will play Ivan Turing, a charming, eccentric, technology multi-billionaire facing a terminal cancer who is willing to apply all his resources to answering the question, is there anything beyond death?
