First, I want to say to the writers you did an awesome job!
This wasn't a normal Law and Order SVU episode. It was fast paced, with the feel of a film versus a TV show. The plot of the episode touched base on the addiction of gambling. In this episode even though there was a rape victim, I feel that Rollins was a victim herself. She got sucked in by her addiction – someone took advantage, and got her in so deep that Rollins almost lost everything including her job.

Rollins ended up at a underground club and lost $15,000. A young waitress recognized her and told the owner of the club that Rollins was a cop. They instantly thought she's undercover for Vice. To prove that she was off duty and was just there to gamble they gave Rollins a series of tasks. That's when the pace of the show picked up and every mistake and tasks that Rollins did, lead her down a path of self destruction.
This was where the brilliant writers came into play, and what I was talking about earlier when I said this episode had the feel of a film versus a TV show. The plot had one steady, flowing story line, with a huge plot twist towards the end that changed the viewers prospective.
I love when the writers do episodes like Gambler's Famllacy. It teaches people about the addiction of gambling, and how quickly someone can spiral out of control. Awesome Job Everyone, to the Actors which includes Guest Star Donal Logue, the Writers, the Producers and the Director!!!
I agree with everything you wrote. It was such an awesome episode and Kelli was just frickin amazing. You could tell she liked working with Donal Logue and he was as brilliant as in everything else I've seen him in. My heart was breaking for Rollins at the same time as I felt disgusted with her and just wanted to slap her at times. That's just brilliant acting of an amazing script.
ReplyDeleteLiv felt off in this episode though, very OC. Like that comment about Amaro & Rollins getting a room. C'mon can she even say that as their boss?? Not the Benson I know. And even though I thought she had every right to scold Amanda in that last scene, no way around it - Rollins did wrong big time - it was just so unlike Liv to put it out like she did. BossBenson, to me, wasn't that good in this episode.
Interesting to see where they take that whole Amaro/stalking plot. And I sure hope they just don't drop what happen this ep, I mean Amanda has some serious amends to deal with, and as a Finanda shipper I of course hope she first and foremost work on that awesome partnership with Fin and build up their trust again.
I really thought this episode was going to be for Rollins and she would be off the force.
ReplyDeleteBenson has gone off book so many times and there were plenty of instances where he career should have been over as well so it stuck me as odd that she wasn't more sympathetic in this episode.
That was different, Olivia wasn't doing that Amanda did. Olivia had every right not to be sympathetic to her, Amanda really went too far..
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Sara. The PTSD/alcohol/power/whatever it is isn't doing anything good for/with the character of Olivia. Amanda obviously screwed up and she deserved getting scold but the old Olivia would just never have been this unsympathetic. Not that I've ever seen her connect with Amanda in any way earlier but this just isn't the way Olivia usually handles people. I'm not liking BossBenson but I still have hope we can get old Benson back tho :)
