On Friday the first season comes to an end, with resolutions to many of the storylines and questions that have dominated the last 12 days at the arctic outpost. Thirteen is the day this phase of the Helix story wraps, and like the number, whether it’s lucky or unlucky for the characters depends on which side they’re on. Each of the 13 episodes have represented a single day at the outpost. But new developments that unfold leave a foundation for a new chapter should the series be renewed for another season.
I had the opportunity to view a production copy of the Helix finale screener. While I can’t go into too many details because I don’t want to divulge any major spoilers, I can try to give you a broad idea of what to expect. Many questions have been raised over the past few months about how this storyline could extend for more than one season, I’ll say this, the current framework of this season is brought to a satisfactory conclusion. However, as we’ve seen as the show has progressed, this story is much broader than a viral outbreak at a scientific lab, and there’s more story to be told.
Should the series end with this one season, would the conclusion be satisfying? I would be satisfied. But at the same time, I’m hoping it doesn’t so that I can see what comes next.
So what can you expect from Friday’s episode?
- A resolution to the current conflict at the outpost
- Plenty of action as the battle between the scientists and Ilaria come to a head
- An unexpected betrayal
- Validation of trust given to one of the characters
- Some resolution on the family issues
I hope you tune in on Friday. I’ll be following up the episode with a look back at the season as whole. Please join in for the discussion!
Thank you Chris, I have been enjoying both the show and your previews/reviews.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that it does not end on a total loose end, that's good to know. can't wait to see who betrays who.
Thanks! I'll tell you this. I did not this this betrayal coming.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris! Really ended up liking this series. It found a way to use it's virus premise to expand to much larger family saga, while being at time heart warming, gut wrenching, with a sprinkle of cheeky, and while maintaining some science fiction-horror genre tropes.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the finale and hope VERY much for a second season! :)
Obviously you can't say much, but the unforeseen betrayal makes me think it's Alan (but don't tell me! I can wait to find out)
Glad you enjoyed the season! Don't worry, I'm not confirming any guesses about the betrayal. That would give away too much. ;)
ReplyDeleteMe either….unexpected betrayal…but sort of happy it was him (spoiler)…kind of made sense once you remember back to the pilot..think I'll need to watch it again…although more questions raised which won't be answered till 2 season.
