Paul Guilfoyle, who has played Captain Jim Brass on all 14 seasons of the procedural, will exit the drama this season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
Guilfoyle is one of only two actors who has been with CSI from the start as a series regular (George Eads is the other). His final appearance will be in the May 7 season 14 finale. Sources say producers made the call to end the character's storyline. The actor, who found out late last week that he wouldn't be returning to the series, made what sources say was an emotional farewell speech during Friday's final day of production on the CSI set.
"Paul made Capt. Brass a standout character," CSI exec producers Carol Mendelsohn and Don McGill said in a statement to THR. "He is not just an original cast member, he is an original. In a show about forensics, fans always looked forward to the handcuffs coming out, and Capt. Brass putting his spin on the crime of the week, just as Paul Guilfoyle put his indelible stamp on the character and the show. He will be missed."

Brass didn't always have a lot of screen time but i will miss seeing him. I wonder if they plan on killing him off, maybe retirement?
ReplyDeleteI am guessing retirement but the question is who replace him? .........
ReplyDeleteGary Sinise's Mac Taylor...Perhaps?
ReplyDeleteGood question! He never had a permanent partner.
ReplyDeleteOh man! That would be awesome! :D
ReplyDeleteIm not sure. Whilst he was the head detective, Im not sure they need to replace him ( at least not on screen), they could keep using their stable of detectives when and if needed.
ReplyDeletebummer, who's going to utter Brass's cheesy lines when he interrogates a suspect? i guess they could get Ecklie (since he's sheriff I think) to take over, or Vartan if he's still around...
ReplyDeleteI think Ecklie will be stay as Sheriff and maybe he get promoted to regular and get someone new to be captain of Homicide?
ReplyDeleteI figured he was headed out. He had a great run, but like SVU change is necessary for budgetary reasons, etc. PG's deadpan delivery always cracked me up. I hope they don't kill Brass off, but as others have said, retirement so that he can come back as a guest or when CSI eventually ends it run, he can be in the final episode - he's earned that.
ReplyDeleteThis is an upsetting loss for me... I really love his character , especially his puns while talking to the suspects or witnesses....Hope a well-written new detective replaces him.
ReplyDeleteI believe they would need to promote someone to take over as head of homicide......I sure they will find someone to take his place
ReplyDeleteI sure hope they don't kill him off. I'll miss Brass. It would be awesome if they could bring Sofia Curtis back, I liked that character a lot. Too bad Louise Lombard seems busy with her new show though.
ReplyDeleteOh ,yes. Sofia Curtis would be great. Even, Katee Sackhoff would be awesome :)
ReplyDeleteI think Alimi Ballard (Lt. Kevin Crawford) is going to replace Brass. But he'll be definitely missed...
ReplyDeleteI guess Brass is going to be retired, after all the events of season premiere (his daughter being a murderer..)
but they both left long time ago...
ReplyDeleteWow, I hate to see him go. I've only seen him on CSI but I've watched nearly from the beginning and I think he's a fine actor. I hope they give him a proper send off and not kill his character off.
