I'm having some difficulty figuring out why someone who trained with the League of Assassins for at least a few years would have that much difficulty with someone more slight of build who has trained with no one and relied on guns most of the time before she met Oliver.
I guess this was the first round between these two and we will be getting a final round later on since it looks like Huntress makes Laurel a hostage too.
I bet it will be something along the lines of Sara realizing that he was underestimating Helena while concentrating on her sister and next time, she won't be doing both and just focus all of her energy on Helena. Hopefully the second round is all Sara and little Helena when it comes to the next fight. And Oliver in the background just watching and sharing popcorn with Diggle.
Helena WAS trained. It's just not something we saw on screen, but that part of her story was covered in #9 of the 'Arrow' comic book written by the showrunners that ran alongside season 1. To make a long story short, she traded sex for training with some badass people from the Mafia.
Of course, Sara was still a brunette in the comic. So I guess it's canon value now is a bit more shaky.
TV tie-ins, especially in a completely different format, are always problematic at best. If you don't hear or see it onscreen, it's debatable whether it should be accepted at all.
Indeed, many TV tie-ins are hard to impossible to fit into the main mythos of a show, especially when created by people not involved in the main show.
But the Arrow comic always felt solid. The stories came from Marc Guggenheim & Andrew Kreisberg and covered "extras" we never saw on the show, such as Oliver crossing additional names of his list, origins for characters like China White and as mentioned Huntress, how Tommy and Laurel got together post the boat wreck. And most importantly, extra scenes after the season 1 finale that explains what lead Oliver to run back to the island.
The only one I've seen work really well is the Heroes digital comics. Those were great when trying to flesh out the backstory of HRG and the company, as well as introduce small, supporting characters. Haven't seen anyone do it nearly as well since.
HA! Nice Oliie!!! Omg that fight was awesome. I want more! Totally rooting for Sara. Still like Helena though, but every square inch of her ass needs to be kicked. And wow "Oliver sure does like to dress up his girls." Could she have said that ANY louder?? I mean c'mon. Laurel was right there! As well as the other 50 people in that room. I assumed that when she said that in the promo they were alone. Guess not.
I always love Helena's jab at Oliver's sex life. Even though Helena is trained to be ruthless by Italian assassins it still doesn't explain how she can beat Sara. Maybe its because Sara is distracted by Laurel. I am so tired by the Lance sisters saga in this show. Please give me Roy, Quentin, Moira and Thea.
Speaking of "fit", Bruce_F pointed out that Sara is also packing more muscle/meat on her bones than Helena, further diminishing the plausibility of Helena's win. Although Sara is shorter.
It's odd because that "Angry Birds" TVGuide article actually claimed that Oliver and Sara clash about how to deal with Helena, with Sara, former assassin that she is, advocating lethal force.
I'm not pessimistic enough to believe that the producers will simply wave a magic wand and make Laurel Black Canary the moment Sara is gone. The Arrow producers have earned a little more credit than that with me.
yea...canary should not have that much trouble she shoulda been able to kick Huntress's ass. Shes trained to be an assassin, helena's just trained, at least at the minimum Canary shoulda been able to hold her own but she couldnt. Hopefully the episode maybe is saying shes out of her game or something cause of drama idk hopefully there is an explanation because that shouldnt be.
If you go by the Nolan verse Batman, which is alright in the first 2 I guess, how could the same people who trained Batman have trouble with Huntress, whom I just call "Bat-Female."
If she holds back I guess that makes sense as a reason to lose, because she's not used to fighting like that. She usually goes in for the kill, at least against a worthy opponent. And there's the whole "Sara being distracted by watching out for Laurel" thing.
Although I still call BS on Helena throwing Sara out a window. Sara's got more meat on her bones and should be strong enough to defend herself even if she doesn't inflict serious damage. There better be a rematch where Helena gets her ass handed to her before the end of the ep. You know that after her win here she's gonna be all cocky and underestimate the Canary.
It actually kind of annoys me because Oliver didn't "dress up" either of them, they were vigilantes and picked their costumes before they started working with him. This whole thing should not be framed as battle of the girlfriends.
That's so predictable that my pro-Sara/anti-Laurel bias aside, it would be lame storytelling. Hope they've got something more creative up their sleeves.
I love their fight, honestly I agree that Canary should destry Helena but maybe that will come at the end. I hope it will be more about the Birds of Prey and not that much about Oliver/Helena, he created her but I hope a backstory/flashbacks will be revealed about Sara and how she got nto the league.
Well, there's also the possibility that something could've happened to Sara before that scene. Great entrance, but she seemed a little off her game. Idk if that was the choreography and they wanted it that way. Or if it was meant for the episode. you know what i mean? We'll see. Oh there's definitely going to be a round 1 and 2. I say round 1, b/c in my eyes, this wasn't it. Not even close. I think i it as a little preview. LOL only a little tiny taste for what's to come. = p
Yeah, but the way every female character on the show (except the ones who are related to him) is defined first and furthermost through dating/sleeping with/having a crush on Oliver is really annoying. I also think it's part of the reason fans keep pitting Laurel, Sara and Felicity against each other, and the endless hate Katie Cassidy and Caity Lotz get. When Sara joined Team Arrow, it was a chance to give Felicity a female friend, instead they made it all about Felicity being jealous and insecure because Dreamboat Oliver has a hot badass girlfriend she supposedly can't compete with. SMH.
Now that you mention it, the fight does seem weird. Like Sara is moving slower and less smoothly than she usually does. Ugh, I can't believe we're spending way more time speculating about the episode than we will actually watching it. Damn being a TV addict. LMAO.
Right?? That's exactly my point. It was like she was moving in slow motion. No one on the show has ever done that. It's always paced in sync. I mean are they deliberately trying to slow down the fight sequences. LOL, who you tellin??? Smh. Facepalm!! It's all good though. What better way to get through our tv week, w/o discussing it....at....an.... immense..... level? = / HAHAHA!
Come on, it's the predictable path. If they had a movie maybe they would have time to put, deep thought into every single minute detail but it's TV, the pace has to be drawn out. Sorry writers don't have time to hold your hand and tailor the show to you, now shut up.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
"Oliver likes to dress up his girls"
ReplyDeleteOOOHHH Helena...you've been missed.
LOL! He sure does, Helena.
ReplyDeleteI'm having some difficulty figuring out why someone who trained with the League of Assassins for at least a few years would have that much difficulty with someone more slight of build who has trained with no one and relied on guns most of the time before she met Oliver.
ReplyDeleteGreat, battle of the ex's. Must NOT see TV! Can nothing on this show revolve around the Lances or Oliver's penis? Wake me up when Deathstroke is back.
ReplyDeleteRemember how Nyssa was beat by Oliver ? Yeah, I guess the league is like TOs Klaus, big words but nothing behind it :P
ReplyDeleteI guess they let Malcolm go because he made them all look weak by comparrison
I feel you, lately shipping has had an annoying focus on the show. Less Sara and Laurel would sure as hell benefit the show
ReplyDeleteI guess this was the first round between these two and we will be getting a final round later on since it looks like Huntress makes Laurel a hostage too.
ReplyDeleteHelena got lucky in the video too because Sara was yelling "Watch out!" to Laurel and was concentrating on her as well as fighting Helena.
ReplyDelete"Oliver's penis", "Deathstroke".
ReplyDeleteThe jokes someone can think of with that combo.
Well, for what it's worth, I'm sure there will probably be a rematch before the end of the episode.
ReplyDeleteI bet it will be something along the lines of Sara realizing that he was underestimating Helena while concentrating on her sister and next time, she won't be doing both and just focus all of her energy on Helena. ReplyDeleteHopefully...or there is at least an explanation why Sara isn't as fit as she should be.

ReplyDeleteI hate to break it to you but the reason Slade/Deathstroke is in Starling City also has a lot to do with Oliver's penis.
ReplyDeleteHA! ReplyDeleteI think she was holding back. I really think she was. Her entrance was badass though. No talking, just fighting. Lol
ReplyDeleteI always love Helena's jab at Oliver's sex life. Even though Helena is trained to be ruthless by Italian assassins it still doesn't explain how she can beat Sara. ReplyDeleteWell Touche' to you too, Bruce!
ReplyDelete*snickers* PG-13!
ReplyDeleteThe same logic they'll apply to Laurel being fit to be BC when all she has is self defense training.
ReplyDeleteI'm not pessimistic enough to believe that the producers will simply wave a magic wand and make Laurel Black Canary the moment Sara is gone. The Arrow producers have earned a little more credit than that with me.
ReplyDeleteHa! I kid, I kid.

ReplyDeleteLooks like I need to train in some martial arts.
ReplyDeleteI think------>Sara will die. Laurel will disappear for a number of months. She will be trained. She will be Black Canary.
ReplyDeleteWham-o
ReplyDeleteBirds of Prey baby
ReplyDeleteIf she holds back I guess that makes sense as a reason to lose, because she's not used to fighting like that. She usually goes in for the kill, at least against a worthy opponent. And there's the whole "Sara being distracted by watching out for Laurel" thing.
