  1. none, am enjoying the series, but none of the couples. John is my favorite character.

  2. Not a couple (yet???) but John and Astrid. Only two (other than Jed) who don' t completely annoy me.

    ReplyDelete
  3. John and Astrid. The only two really likable people on the show, it sometimes seems.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Jastrid, the only couple with chemistry.
And Stephen (16) and Cara (over 20) ? eww. Cara is a lot older than him.

    ReplyDelete
  5. As of right now, the reason the show caught my attention Jastrid, John & Astrid potentially!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Other: John and Astrid has the best potential as a couple, I think.

  7. Ditto. I liked John and Cara in the beginning because of the great chemistry, but Cara has become more and more unlikable in recent episodes, to the point where I think a sweetheart like John can simply do better (and should). Some people blame Peyton List for being wooden, but I liked her in FlashForward so I think she's just stuck with this permanently disdainful cold fish of a character. Right now I'm only about the platonic friendships on this show (frankly I always prefer friendships because TV tends to write romance so poorly, but in TTP in particular, the romance has been a plague on the show).

I predict "Other" will win this poll because of the popularity John and Astrid quickly accumulated (just look at the comments). Personally, it rubs me the wrong way because Astrid is still in high-school, like Stephen/Cara. Although I'll grant you, it's definitely not as annoying as Stephen/Cara and doesn't involve cheating, so John/Astrid do have that going for them.

    Tim/Alice probably has potential. :D

  8. Agreed !!! I was looking for "John & Astrid" in that poll !

  9. It was probably submitted before 1x12, the big John/Astrid episode, aired. Until then, all they'd shared was a brief look at Stephen's dinner party.

  10. stephen is a senior, which means he is most likely 18. making cara around 23 (it has been stated she is 5 years older than him).

  11. the couples are the worst part of the show

    ReplyDelete
  12. Haha, that is the moment I started shipping them tbh.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I do ship Jastrid, but aren't John and Astrid the same years apart?

    ReplyDelete
  14. John is a lot older than Astrid. It's pretty much the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Other: Hillary and death. Just Kidding!!! LOL Don't yell at me.

    ReplyDelete
  16. You ship John/Astrid OR oppose to Stephen/Cara on the basis of age. You can't do both. Astrid is at best a few months older than Stephen (unless Stephen skipped a grade or something), and John is definitely no younger than Cara, probably older. If the age thing is a problem for one couple, it's a problem for the other as well.

I say this as someone who loathes Stephen/Cara, by the way, and would choose John/Astrid over it if push came to shove. But we can't apply double standards when it comes to the characters' ages.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yell? How about high-five. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. People are being such hypocrites going on about how the age difference between Stephen and Cara is creepy and yet they want John and Astrid together whose age difference is A LOT bigger. John is like 10 years older than Astrid. Please stop with the double standards!

    For the record, I don't ship Stephen/Cara nor do I ship John/Astrid.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Agreed! It seriously does my head in when people don't see the hypocrisy.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm not one for shipping, but I do like to see a little romance in storytelling, as long as it's done right. I think Stephen and Astrid should be given a chance before anyone goes down the John and Astrid road. Cara is so unlikable right now that I can't imagine her paired with anyone. Jedikiah and Morgan were an interesting twist. If the new development in an upcoming episode that might change Jedikiah's life has anything to do with him becoming a tomorrow person, it would be cool to see him pull that off just to be with Morgan. His problem could be jealousy because the gene passed him up. I don't understand why John and Jedikiah were even an option in this poll. They're clearly not gay, and Jedikiah thinks of John as a son. They can't be considered a couple.

  21. Other - John & Astrid! By far!

  22. I want john with astrid

  23. I still haven't given up on my couple. John/Cara. Yes they need a break, and i'm sooo fine by that, b/c i'm getting tired of the arguing. For me i feel like in Cara's eyes, John is screwed each way he goes. If he does a bad thing, she doesn't like it. If he does the right thing, she doesn't like it. I mean WTF? But you know what they've been dating for 2 years. So i'm just going to say this is nothing.

I guess my other couple would be Jastrid. (Luke says Jastrid, we go with Jastrid, personally i hate the Jostrid one, it sounds ugly and doesn't exactly role of my tongue). I like their chemistry. Apart and together, i mean they're my two fav. characters on the show. So i look forward to their scenes in upcoming episodes. Right now what i want for them the most is just to build a foundation of friendship. Nothing romantic yet. But i would smile my ass off, if she got all blushy around him. I would laugh so hard it would make my day.

    ReplyDelete
  24. lmao word!! I'd be down for that! Hilary and death, Best ship ever!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't think the ages are nothing. Astrid and Stephen should both be at least be 18 for the relationships not to be kind of creepy, even if they're above the age of consent and all. It's possible John and Cara aren't much older than them, but if so I think the casting is off. Peyton List is clearly in her late twenties and I think Luke Mitchell may be past 30 already.

If John and Astrid do become a thing (which - I don't have a problem with it in terms of their dynamic, just the ages), I hope the issue is at least acknowledged on screen. I mean, it's not like high school girls dating guys in their mid 20's doesn't happen in real life, but people do frown upon it... at least their parents do. LOL.

Part of me still want to root for John/Cara, if only because of the chemistry. The second I saw them standing next to each other in the Pilot, I just thought the actors "looked" like a couple. So it would be a shame for that ship to go down. But it's getting harder because Cara is starting to look like TTP's version of Laurel Lance (yes, I went there... heh). I don't understand why TV writers tend to think that if they make a female character bitch and bark at everyone, she looks "tough" and like she "doesn't take crap off anyone". It's not like that. She just ends up being annoying and pissing the audience off. You can either give a character a sweet, caring side (like Felicity on Arrow, Caroline on TVD, Nikita and Alex from Nikita, Sydney from Alias) or credibly explain why they're so cold and win the audience over with their other qualities (Melinda May from Agents of SHIELD, Juliet from Lost, Sara from Arrow). But characters like Ana-Lucia from Lost, Elena from TVD, Laurel or Cara just get on everyone's nerves because they're bitchy and snarky without even having a good reason for it or positive qualities to balance it out.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That's probably the best relationship on the show. I'm also getting more into the John/Stephen - John (as usual) is a sweetheart for moving past Stephen sleeping with his g/f so quickly and getting Stephen's back on most issues. It was surprising to me how he's usually the one who takes Stephen's side, not Cara. And the flashback to Roger telling John he's looking after him because Roger's son might need John to do that for him one day was lovely.

I actually want to see more of all the friendships among TTP. Russell with all the other three, I liked how he stood by John when most voted against him and for Cara as the leader. Maybe show more of the smaller characters and their dynamics with the leaders, like Irene, Morgan or Charlotte. Astrid and Cara working together in 1x12 was cool. Show me more of Stephen with his brother and mother. Maybe more face-offs between Marla and Jedikiah? And maybe Jedikiah does have a heart in there somewhere and will protect his family when push comes to shove? All of the relationships on this show are more interesting to me than the romantic ones, frankly.

  27. I dont think is only how the characters are written, it has to do with the actress as well. IMO, it is the personality and how good of an actress they are to pull off a kick ass strong female with a heart so they can relate to the audience. I never liked Laura in Arrow, Elena in TVD and cant stand Cara's character at all, I know she went through a lot of things but that face she makes in every scene she is at just wants to make me change the channel, and John to the contrary he is such a lovable character and the actor plays it real good. So yes, Im a Jastrid shipper! Anyone but Cara ;)

  28. Idc about the age gap between the characters. But i had to put it out their so people could know their EXACT ages. (Rolls eyes) i mean my god. Let it go! W/e. Astrid is younger than Stephen, maybe by only a couple of months. So she should be turning 18 soon. But yes it would be better if they writers actually brought that in to the episode. And FTR Luke IRL is 28. And Peyton is 27.

Idgaf what people frown upon! She's 18 she can date whoever she wants. That's legal age. Right now, idt anyone should be taking it THIS seriously anyway. If anything, If John/Astrid were ever to become a thing, it would mostly be John's decision. I mean would he take it up as a girl with a crush, or be all, i really do like her, age doesn't matter?? Ya know?? It all boils down to John's feelings at the end of the day. So right now i don't really care. I just want them to become friends. And FTR when i was in HS, i dated a college guy think he was 25. But after 3 weeks, i had to let him go. My god was he clingy! Lol

As for Cara, i can understand why she's so "cold" as some might say. So it doesn't bother me too much that she comes off as a bitch every episode. I just think she should think before she acts or speaks! But i know what you mean with the comparison of the characters you mentioned.

P.S. Can't believe you went there with the Laurel statement. I totally gave you the look. LOL How dare you. hahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  29. To me it's just the writing, I liked Peyton in FlashForward and even in the early episodes of TTP. And I think she and Luke have great chemistry. But as the episodes wore on they made Cara less and less likable. John can do way better.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Elena was seventeen, Damon and Stefan were over a hundred and no one ever thought it was creepy except me. *shrugs* Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  31. LOL that's so true. There are a lot more reasons not to like them. Ha! That was funny. And yeah same here. I won't be yelling that either. I mean c'mon it's 2014. Things have changed. But i could see Astrid's parents being made about it. And personally I feel, that when it comes to Hollywood there really is no such thing as an age gap. There really isn't if you pay attention.

Plus i think the majority of the fanbase should keep this in mind....Umm John and Astrid may never happen if the series doesn't get picked up for a second season. Sooo the Anti- Jastrid fans can rest easy.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Good point. I think it's a matter of the age factor being eclipsed by the fact that Damon and Stefan are frankly unrepentant mass murderers, and the show barely even pays lip service to any need for them to redeem themselves. Most TVD fans don't bat at eyelash at that (and let's not get started on Klaus and Caroline), so the age gap is peanuts to them, obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hmm...I understand what you're saying, but at the same time a part of me is always thinking why would vampires want to redeem themselves? I'm not saying that they shouldn't or that we don't want them to, but for me the desire for redemption isn't something I expect so I rarely look for it. But I agree with what you're saying about them and the show.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Right?? All i care about is that renewal. Screw all this crap. None of it matters if it doesn't get picked up.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, the thing is: if vampires aren't human enough to feel guilt over doing terrible things and want to make amends, how are they human enough to be in a healthy, functional romantic relationship? If it's twisted, creepy and possessive (like Katherine's relationship with the Salvatores), it's possible. But couples like Elena/Stefan or Elena/Damon are painted as star-crossed lovers, not as something that's deeply messed up. I think a classic example of the show's bizarre attitude is in 3x03 when Damon and Elena go to Chicago to try to get Stefan back. Elena pleads with Stefan to return to MF with them, Stefan points out that he's slaughtered scores of innocent people... and Elena doesn't really care. It's only when Stefan drives home the point that he doesn't WANT to go with her, that she gives up. Basically, as long as Stefan was willing to get back together with Elena, she was ready to completely brush aside the trail of corpses he'd left in his wake - not many decades earlier, but for all she knew, as recently as the same day!

Some people regard this matter with "it's a show about vampires, what do you expect?". Well... I expect to either see human/vampire relationships framed as a dysfunctional, twisted concept (since the human characters are in love with murderous creatures), or to see the vampires take responsibility for what they've done and try to redeem themselves. You need to call a spade a spade. A character can't be a monster both literally and figuratively and then turn around and act like a romantic hero.

  36. If I made you laugh that much, is it possible you actually dig the idea of Jed finding Jesus? ;) Ha!

  37. Sometimes I think writers believe if they portray compassion in a woman it makes her look weak. Even though John has a ton of compassion and clearly isn't weak. Seen it before and will probably see it again. It feels a bit like a tv double standard.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Agree that it's the writing. She was a likable and pretty dynamic character in the beginning. I liked her backstory, and I like kick-ass females and she fit that. Bit by bit the writing has stripped that away. Actresses can't do much if what the writers give them tanks their character.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes, yes, yes. We've come far with the portrayals of female characters in TV shows (more so than in movies, I think), but a lot of writers still have a hard type escaping certain trappings. It seems like we used to only have weak, helpless women who were boxed into the "caring/nurturing" role, and now shows are overcompensating for that with tough-as-nails female characters who kick ass, snark and snipe, don't take crap from anyone as I mentioned... but that's not a solution. If a woman has to lack "feminine" qualities like empathy and compassion to make her strong, that means we associate such qualities with weakness - so it's still sexism, just in a different form.

I realize one could read my comment and say, "Okay, so you want them to be badass fighters, but still be sweet, caring, nurturing, etc? They'd be total Mary Sues!". Well... maybe. But of course, you already provided the answer to that: how come John, and other males, can be a mix of tough badass qualities and kindness/compassion without coming off as too perfect and unrealistic? It really shouldn't be any different for women, but too often, writers seem to resort to archetypes instead of writing a fully realized and complex character like John. Cara is the "tough girl" archetype, more so now than in the show's early episodes.

I think the only way to redeem the character would be for one of her plans as leader to completely blow up in her face, providing a wake-up call and taking her down a few pegs. Maybe then she'll get off her high horse and stop being so abrasive. I don't trust the writers enough to expect such a storyline, although I'll say to their credit that at least they acknowledge what a bad leader Cara is (instead of trying to pass off her constant attitude and coldness as being tough and badass). Stephen lays it on the line for her in the promo by saying that things are falling apart without John.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Another thing I like about Peyton is that I find her believable as a kick-ass action heroine. Sometimes a character is beating people up but the actor just doesn't have the "look" to believably pull that off. She does. Unfortunately, her fighting skills are about the only thing Cara has going for her right now. The writers need to do a 180 with the character.

    ReplyDelete
  41. From my understanding of Mary-Sue's, it seems that a key hallmark is that a mary-sue isn't a well-rounded fleshed out character. Cara is more a mary-sue now to me because of that. The layers are missing. John has both sides, leader qualities, toughness, and compassion, yet is absolutely imperfect (as we've seen). It makes him a more real character, and Cara more of a trope or caricature.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hahahaha hell yeah! It would be hilarious since Mark, is indeed Lucifer himself! Aw man, too funny. Sam and Dean would be so happy. Hahaaha

  43. John and Astrid. Duh

  44. stephen and cara make me puke

  45. tbh i just love John, but i hate Cara. but since Cara makes him happy.. i sadly have to chose them.
