If you were disappointed that last week’s episode of The Walking Dead didn’t catch up with enough of the survivors, this week’s episode might be more to your liking. While we don’t see Rick, Michonne, or Carl in this one, we catch up with a number of other survivors – a number in the double digits. These include some under the age of 18.
Unlike last week, which was a deeper look at only a few characters, this episode is spread out over multiple groups and focuses primarily on the present, with the exception of a nicely placed monologue overlay spoken by Beth at the outset, as she reads a letter she presumably wrote to Jimmy or her mother in her journal about hope when they were just getting settled at the prison. This serves to set up the emotional state nicely of not only Beth, but of the whole group, and demonstrate just how much they’ve lost.
While this week’s episode was less focused than last week’s on probing the psyches of the characters, The Walking Dead always does a nice job of creating memorable moments in each episode. Plus, there’s more action and suspense in this one, as we follow the characters unaware of what carnage they might find around the next corner. We get a glimpse into how the various individuals have responded to having everything taken away from them. And there’s one reunion.
Here are some quotes from the episode to keep you guessing as we wait for the next episode. I’m not including who said what, because I have to leave you something to wonder about.
- “Please don’t go.”
- “Shit happens. Not everything needs to mean something.”
- “You found us. I knew you would.”
- “I have to be here. I need to see their faces.”

I'll be honest, the Daryl/Beth dynamic is the one I'm the most excited about. Because it's refreshing and unexpected, I can't wait to see how these two get along.
ReplyDeleteAnd I also want to see what happens with Glenn.
Good point! Beth and Daryl are very different personality types and their different ways of looking at things plays out in this episode.
ReplyDeleteI really can't wait to see it =)
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for Beth and Daryl to, while I do like Carol, I'm looking forward to seeing a friendship or even a possible romance happen between these to. Norman could have chemistry with a house plant so I'm guessing it could work. I'm glad Beth has somebody to look after her since she's not the best fighter, she is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters.
ReplyDeleteBack in season 2, I was rooting for something to develop between Daryl and Andrea after their walk for the woods looking for Sophia, but that was never meant to be.
ReplyDeleteOMG me too!!!! I've never be a fan of a possible Daryl/Carol, it never crossed my mind, but I was hoping for something to happen between Daryl & Andrea, but it never happened.... Now, I'm really rooting for a possible romance between Daryl and Beth, and they have a great chemistry.
ReplyDeleteNR just said in a TV Guide interview there would not be a Beth/Daryl romance. So, I would just enjoy the dynamic as a familial bond. Not everything with Daryl has to be about romance.
ReplyDeleteWell, he said no romance but he was talking about this season, He didn't say anything about season 5. So, I'll wait and see.
ReplyDeleteYou must be a Beth/Daryl shipper. The show is not going to put their cash cow Daryl with a barely legal teenager. Even if the laws of society don't apply in TWD universe, it does for the general audience. People don't care how old the actress who plays her is in real life, on the show she looks like a child. I have a feeling they stuck Daryl with beth so the audience would try to care about her before they kill her off. She's been on for 3 seasons and has been pretty much a glorified babysitter.
ReplyDeleteOne reunion? I hope it's the return of Carol we've been waiting on. The showrunners said she was coming back, so I hope she is reunited with her girls...
ReplyDeleteWe'll see what happens =)
ReplyDeleteI would like to see Daryl and Beth's relationship go further. And I want to see if Maggie and Glen find each other.
ReplyDeleteBased on what I've read so far about this upcoming episode, it sounds kind of boring. A bunch of stuff will be mashed into an hour with less character development and more action. Boooo!
ReplyDeleteI think I will prefer the mid season premiere over this one, but I'll wait and see.The one thing I'm wanting to see is the Daryl and Beth story line. I'm 100% rooting for a Daryl/Michonne pairing, but I want to see how Daryl and Beth deal with what happened. Daryl and Michonne are my faves, but I kind of like Beth too.
I'm wanting it to be a meaningful reunion, so I hope it's Maggie and Glenn. Carol being reunited with the girls is dull and who really cares about that reunion? I wouldn't mind if it was Carol running into Rick to see how they react to each other, but we know that won't happen this soon.
ReplyDeleteDaryl is so shut off, I can't imagine him falling into a romantic relationship easily. If it were to happen again, I would think the woman would need to be a little aggressive about it, the way Carol was. Even if Daryl and Beth were to become very close, I don't see Beth ever being that direct. But I could be surprised.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty harsh. Then again, the same can be said for Carol. What has she done for 3 seasons that has been especially useful? It's only this season that Carol actually did something. It ended up being horrible and back firing, but it was something. Beth will have her big moment this season too.
ReplyDeleteSomeone needed to take care of the baby and I think that she is wonderful for doing it. The children are the future, so making sure they are well cared for is a very important job. I think they will kill off Carol before they would Beth. Beth's story is just beginning and Carol's may be ending.
I would say this episode is more of a set up episode than a deep character exploration, but that doesn't mean there aren't some really nice character moments. I'll be curious to hear your reaction after you've seen it.
ReplyDeleteI honestly can't say I'm all that interested in Beth still and I don't think her scenes with Daryl are going to change my opinion on the character. I find her boring, I'm sorry to say. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a Caryler (before I'm accused.) Hopefully she develops to become something worth watching but so far it hasn't happened for me. I can't help it.
ReplyDeleteThere are three things I'm still waiting for: Carol's return which I am fairly certain happens this episode. Rick's reaction when he finds out she has saved his little girl. Carol and Daryl to reunite.
How do you know Carol saved Judith? Carol wasn't even at the prison so how could she save her? I still think Tyrese or the two girls did, either that or Judith is dead:( I don't quite understand the harsh comments about Beth ever since these Daryl/Beth scenes popped up. I ship Daryl and Michonne, but can still appreciate his scenes with Carol and Beth.
ReplyDeleteOops I may have just given something away. Sorry about that. I have other sources regarding Carol and Judith.
ReplyDeleteWere my Beth comments harsh? I just said that I personally find her boring. And have felt that way since she came on the show. I'm sorry to say it but I just do. She simply doesn't interest me. Like I said, maybe if she develops some she'll get there but honestly, she's already been on the show for 2 and a half seasons and I still find that I don't care about her. My Beth comments have nothing to do with the Daryl and Beth scenes other than the fact that she is now being *GIVEN* more scenes, though, that happen to be with the most popular character. I could care less if they interact. But I think her being paired with Daryl is going to be more about HIS development than hers.
Some of Daryl's so called fans need a reality check. The show is not going to turn Daryl into a creepy Pedo / Prevert which would happen if he hooked up with the teen beth. Just because some of you want to use Beth as a vessel for your fantasy of sleeping with a middle aged Daryl.
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm looking forward to is Abraham and co
Carol 's return will be awesome.
And glen's arc in 4b because the writers ignored him in the first part.
Not looking forward to beth's arc because EK is a bad actress with one expression no matter what she is suppose to be feeling.
The biggest difference between Beth and Carol is that Beth is played by he worst actress on the show. And Carol is played by the best actress on the show.
ReplyDeleteAlso the carol killer arc didn't backfire on the character it backfired on the show and its writers. Also the show would be dumb as hell to kill their best actress and keep the worst actress. Esp
Ridiculous. I think there are plenty of capable actors and actresses on this show. Danai Gurira is brilliant and doesn't require words to get the job done, Andrew Lincoln, Steven Yeun, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohen all wonderful and very capable. I don't think EK is as bad as some people say. I admit she needs some work, but she is not the worst I've seen on the show.
ReplyDeleteThe killer arc back fired on Carol. I don't know how it back fired on the show or the writers, I don't get what you're getting at with that comment. It back fired on Carol because she tried to contain the flu, but failed. She also ended up killing two prison members for nothing.
We'll see. Hopefully Beth will surprise you.
ReplyDeleteShe will be this episode im pretty sure of it
ReplyDeleteYou maybe should make a fact check and although you obviously don't like Beth accept that since NR implied such a relation it was obviously that there will be a romantic relationship between Daryl and Beth. There is even nothing pervert about it. Everybody who survived so long in this world is not a Teenager anymore. Beth experienced more than 40 year old women experienced in the real world. When kings married 14 year old girls in the age before technology this maybe was pervert in some way. But there is nothing pervert about a relationship between a man in the 30's and a 18/19-year-old surviver in the cruel fictional age AFTER technology.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I like Beth I also see forward to Beth's death which will probably happen in the next season. But for now I'm really curious to see how she will give Daryl new hope. Before Carol became a cold killer I also could imagine a love relationship between Daryl and Carol. But the "reactions" of the so called "Caryl"-Fans to the "Bethyl"-love-relationship let me think that they gained that their wish will never become true.
My bets:
ReplyDelete“Please don’t go.” - Daryl to Beth
“Shit happens. Not everything needs to mean something.” - Sasha to Bob
“You found us. I knew you would.” - Maggie to Glenn
“I have to be here. I need to see their faces.” - Carol
You got one out of four right. :)
ReplyDeleteMine
ReplyDeletePlease don’t go.” - Beth to Daryl
“Shit happens. Not everything needs to mean something.” - Daryl to beth
“You found us. I knew you would.” - Lizzie to Carol
“I have to be here. I need to see their faces.” - Carol
One out of four.
ReplyDeleteAgreed but Norman's also said this about Carol too, that it's a siblingesque relationship, etc.
ReplyDeleteYou must be a Caryl shipper than LOL@U. You speak for you and that's it and Sassy Angel clearly disagrees. The laws of society say no one under the legal age of consent, no animals and no relatives. This possible pairing meets that dynamic, they are none of those. They stuck Daryl with Beth b/c they need to form new bonds, just like Carol with Tyreese, and that way by the end of the season they can finally end the will they/won't they Daryl/Carol dynamic, sinking it.
ReplyDeleteMy next bet:
ReplyDeleteWe did not get the same one right ;)
Backfired on the show? No it didn't. They had this all planned out ahead of time and people who are too short sighted to see why they did it freaked out b/c it might hurt the Daryl/Carol relationship that has never and may never happen. It's not as if they just decided out of the blue to do this with Carol, there's a reason for it. Y'alls problem is you spent so much time not wanting it to be true, and now that you realize it is true, you're trying to find another angle to work here.
ReplyDeleteYou don't determine for anyone else who the best or worst is either melody, sorry. If you guys didn't spend so much time freaking out, you'd see why they did it but then again, Daryl could take a dump on Carol's face and marry Sasha, and you'd still say Caryl was canon.
If those are her girls then why won't she let them call her mom?
ReplyDeleteYes :)
ReplyDeleteDaryl and Andrea would have been perfect! I was hoping they'd get together, they had chemistry .
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'm still angry about Andrea. How could they... :-(
No I don't need a reality check I can tell the Daryl is actually a character on a TV show which a lot of his fangirls seem to not get.
ReplyDeleteNR has never implied that there would be a Beth/ Daryl hook up,he made one comment at the SDCC at that's it. In the recent TV guide he commented on it saying its not romantic.
Daryl hooking with beth would make him a pervert because he has known her since she was 15- 16 years old kid and she is Hershel's baby girl. Plus beth isn't 19 she is either 17 maybe 18 season 4 is set 6 months after season 3.where Beth's age was stated as being 17.
Carol is not a cold killer the writers did 360 with her character in one episode changing her personality to fit a plot which backfired..
Abd On the stupid Caryl and bethyl thing both sides are as bad as each other.boths sides throw mud at each other.
Why would she.
ReplyDeleteOn the show she was given them like a 1- 2 days without a choice.
Carol lost a child and that would still hurt.
So her bonding with a another child will take time
Yes he did say that but at the end of that interview he also said that if it happens it would be great on Caryl.
ReplyDeleteScott gimple also said no to the bethyl thing so that's both NR and the show's frontrunner saying no to a romantic pairig of daryl and teen beth.
It did backfire on them. The fans reaction to the Carol killer / banishment went against what they thought. They writers automatically thought that all the fans want side with rick which didn't happen instead it spilt the fandom.
ReplyDeleteThe writers changed Carol personality and made her act occ with the killer arc.so far the killer arc looks sloppy and lazy on the writers partbut seeing how SG has commented that everything will make sense it the end I hope he makes the killer arc more believeable and covers all the plot holes,
I don't care if carol and Daryl get together and I'm never said they where canon.Daryl could hook up with michonne are even someone new but trying to sell the idea of him with a teenage girl is just whack. And obviously anyone who thinks Daryl would hook up with beth doesn't know or understand his character.
Yes DG AL NR are very capable actors.
ReplyDeleteLC and SY has improved a lot since the start.
CR has also improved a lot.
The problem with EK is she hasn't improved at all she is wooden as hell with the same blank stare in every scene. She has been there 3 years and still nothing.
From a writing point the killer arc is a fail. because the writers didn't set a foundation for the story
I'm glad you agree about the actors/actresses because diminishing the acting talents of the rest of the cast, especially Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, don't register as realistic to me. It just sounds like someone trying to build up the actress that plays Carol by insulting the rest of the cast.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know that the writers wanted
ReplyDeleteeveryone to side with Rick? Were you in the writers room? Nothing back fired on them. They didn't suffer any consequences like loss of viewers, sponsors or anything like that when the killer episodes aired. The show has more viewers than last year. This past episode kicked butt. I'm still not sure how it back fired on the writers.
Honestly, who cares about what a few people on the internet say. The majority of viewers are not online and they couldn't care one way or the other about Rick banishing Carol. There are also just as many Rick supporters as Carol supporters. I don't really care for Rick too much and here you have me defending him.
I'm so Happy to see people liking the Daryl/Beth dynamic! I agree it's refreshing and it is going to work really well. I'm personally hoping for an eventual romance between them, I think it could be great.
ReplyDeleteThank you for explaining that The Thorn Birds was a TV miniseries about a pervert. *lol*
ReplyDeleteMe too, ugh!!!! -__-
ReplyDelete"Please don't go."-Tara (is that her name, the sister of the governor's girlfriend) to Glen
ReplyDelete"Shit happens."-Daryl to Beth.
"You found us"-Lizzie to Carol
"I have to be here."-Maggie
2 of 4 right. :)
ReplyDeleteTara and Lizzie were the right ones?
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to spoil, but I heard that a couple certain someones from the comic enter into the picture by the end of the episode. Can you say if they have any lines or is it basically just a shot of them and that's it?
ReplyDeleteIf I answered that it would make it too easy. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to limit my responses to what's in the article. Sorry. You only have another 12 and a half hours to wait though.
ReplyDelete"Please don't go."- Sasha to Maggie (I think she might go back to look for Glenn on her own)
ReplyDelete"Shit happens."- Very likely to be Daryl
"You found us"- Definitely Lizzie to Carol!
"I have to be here."- No idea
1 out of 4.

ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! here I thought I was the only one being grossed out by this Beth/ Daryl relationship comments. Is she even legal? he's old enough to be her dad literally. Norma Reedus is 45, even though the man does not look a day older than 30 but still! i think a beth/ daryl relationship is so wrong. and LOL at glorified babysitter!!
ReplyDeleteok cate
ReplyDeleteMe too, Andrea could also been with Rick (As the comic) :(
ReplyDelete
