The Walking Dead returns on Sunday, February 9 with “After,” its first new episode since the fall finale, “Too Far Gone,” on December 1. The episode is written by Robert Kirkman and directed by Greg Nicotero. The episode picks up almost exactly where the last episode left off.
The group is scattered after the Governor’s attack, and the attack is seen to have deep ramifications both physically and emotionally for the characters in this episode. Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) final words to Carl (Chandler Riggs) in the last episode were “Don’t look back.”
The episode actually has some wonderful echoes from the past seasons. The characters have to come to terms with being thrust back out into this harsh new world. They no longer have the safety and comfort of their walls or each other. It looks like it will take some time before the characters are reunited – if they even are reunited... Look for the continuation of the themes we saw in the fall – what does it take to survive in this world, and what does it ultimately do to you?
As always there is some heart-stopping walker action and some of the best makeup artistry on television – or film for that matter! You can look forward to some amazing Michonne (Danai Gurira) sword action and finally a glimpse into her past. Chocolate pudding will be an important element in one scene, and Carl gets an unexpected visitor. There’s also one scene that is very close to a scene in the original comic.
Are you excited for the return of The Walking Dead? Who are you most anxious to see? Any speculations based on the promos and photos released so far? While we can “tease” what’s coming up on Sunday, I can’t confirm or deny any speculations... But do let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

I'm still wondering if baby Judith is really dead? Did they really go there with that?
ReplyDeleteWill we see Carol again? I'm hoping so.
Will Glen and Maggie ever see each other again?
I am excited to see where all this goes. Can't wait for this new ep.
The showrunners have indicated that we will find out definitively about baby Judith.... I cannot confirm or deny when though...
ReplyDeleteI am most anxious to see any storyline involving Michonne. She is just awesome and is such an interesting character. I also want to see how Maggie and Beth deal with Hershel's death.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa, glad you enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the episode although I suspect some people might complain that it's a little slow after the events at the prison in the last episode
ReplyDeleteYep, I didn't like it at all :P
ReplyDeleteIs chocolate pudding the secret weapon to kill walkers people were talking about? lol
ReplyDeleteExcited to know about Michone's past. Is Michonne Carl's "visitor" like on the comics or...
Will I ever be able to eat chocolate pudding again?
ReplyDeleteI'm a little curious if we'll see a bit more of the character Beth, because she's one of the characters we know least about. I also hope we'll see more of Lilly.
ReplyDeleteYes :)
ReplyDeleteHa, I didn't think you would ;)
ReplyDeleteWe don#t see Beth or Lily in this episode.
ReplyDelete:P
ReplyDeleteThe episode is already available to watch on the XBox 360 Marketplace btw
They couldn't possibly have kept up that pace! And what it lacks in action, it makes up for in intensity... I suspect that it will be a much 'discussed' episode - for reasons I can't state here! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThe Michonne storyline is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a perfect comparison - and I almost compared it to that episode in the preview!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! In fact, you may want to have some handy in your fridge!
ReplyDeleteI can neither confirm nor deny... ;)
ReplyDeleteShhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - spoiler!
ReplyDeleteGreat previex Lisa :)
ReplyDeleteIt's true the episode is slower but still it's really great and I loved Michonne' storyline. She's my favorite character on the show
Thanks Lisa!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tease! Looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteRe: Judith. They did in the comic, but we saw no body, so the door is open on that one.
ReplyDeleteRe: Carol. I hope so, too. I wouldn't have thought I'd ever say that, given what a mope she was for age sin earlier seasons, but she really came inot her own over last season and the beginning of this season.
RE: Glenn and Maggie, I will go out on a limb and say yes, with a high degree of certainty that that limb will not break under me.
Totally forgot this was coming back this weekend. Need to make sure the DVR is set.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see Carol too!
ReplyDeleteAnd like I hate to ruin people's hopes and dreams but "let me tell you somethin" that baby couldn't last through constant wars AND a walker world like that's just a little unrealistic to me specially after all of that blood loss. I know everyone is hopeful but I'm already mourning Judith Grimes.
(And you know what's worse than killing a baby? Killing a baby twice. If they brought her back like what would be the point. Like I said...Walker infested. On the comics she dies on the prison war too.)
