    I'm starting to wish that Tom really is a secret double agent or something. Because if he's not, then he's just an idiot getting manipulated.

    Exactly. There has to be something nefarious or heretofore unknown going on with the character because it's the only interesting option. Hypothetically, if Tom really is just a put-upon husband who feels marginalized by his wife then why all the focus on him? Why would Red be so against him? Why would he be targeted by some random con artist? Most importantly, why would a steadily working actor take such an utterly thankless role?

    There has to be something going on under the surface with Tom because if there isn't the show has been wasting a lot of the audience's time all along.

    If he is a secret double agent, then he's doing a great job. Totally committed to the lie. The way he went face to face with Red, that seemingly banal conversation with so much going on underneath. It would also mean that he has probably caught on to Jolene Parker/Lucy Brooks and is secretly conning her while she thinks she's conning him. If they do ever reveal who Tom really is I hope they do it in a spectacular fashion, like having him kill five people with his bare hands or something like that.
