“We’re not going to wait until November” to kick off this fall’s new season of the sitcom, or for crime drama Elementary, CEO Les Moonves told analysts in a call to discuss Q4 earnings. NFL CBS“It’ll be on some other night.” And he’s unfazed by the disruption on Thursdays: The eight NFL games that CBS plans to offer will “tighten up our existing schedule” especially since the network has “a lot of O&Os in NFL markets.” Moonves’ comments confirmed the assumption that Big Bang would continue to call Thursday its permanent home and hinted that Elementary too may stay on the night (after airing originals elsewhere during the weeks NFL takes over Thursday.)

Slightly off-topic: That confirms there will be new seasons of both series!
ReplyDeleteI understand airing TBBT on another night (Monday) to shore up the comedy block until it returns to Thursday, but what about Elementary? It does well enough on Thursdays, but I don't really see the benefit of airing some episodes of Elementary on another night (say Monday at 10) before moving it back to Thursday. That's just going to mess with whatever show they air in that slot once Elementary moves back to Thursday.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry if I am really misunderstanding how sports work, but doesn't the TNF take over the entire night of programming?
ReplyDeleteIt does, and that's what I'm saying. TNF will take up all of Thursday until the beginning of November. From November until the end of the season, TBBT and Elementary will air on Thursday night. But instead of holding both shows on hiatus until November, CBS is going to air them on a different night for at least a few episodes.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but you seemed to raise a question as to how that would impact the "other" show? Quote: "That's just going to mess with whatever show they air in that slot once Elementary moves back to Thursday." /quote. What other show? I'm guessing, if anything, the void that Elementary leaves when it gets its Thursday home back will be given to a brand new show in November. That won't create any "mess", I thin.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if for example they air a few episodes of Elementary on Mondays until TNF ends and Elementary moves back to Thursday, then what will they air on Monday? Premiere a new show in November?
ReplyDeleteYup like what they did with Almost Human
ReplyDeleteWhen the hell did the NFL start doing Thursday games???
ReplyDeleteI noticed this a couple times this year & it really annoyed me (because up here, the station that carries all out teams hockey games, ALSO was carrying TNF & it more than once caused games to be moved off of basic cable to a specialty station)
Wish they would go back to Sundays only. It didn't mess with TV scnedules there.
And Mike & Molly.
ReplyDeleteIt should be noted that their moves are only supposed to be temporary, meaning that they will air normally on Thursdays for the whole season, except for the first 6 weeks. I must say I am shocked they are doing that with Elementary, TBBT we all saw it coming
ReplyDeleteThere was no doubt that there wouldn't be.
ReplyDeleteIt has not been Sunday only for a very long time honestly.
ReplyDeleteThere has been Monday Night Football since 1970 I think.... and Thursday football since 2006.
Regardless, I hate when live football games run over and delay other programming...
Mondays or mondays?
ReplyDeleteSo, we won't see CBS starting TNF at 8:30 after airing a TBBT episode, which was a possibility (ABC used to start Monday Night Football at 9PM because their aired non-sports programming at 8PM).
Mike & Molly isn't a new show
ReplyDeleteAfter its whopping syndication deal, Elementary is more about episode numbers than ratings right now. I would not be surprised to see CBS try it out on Sunday to see how it does instead of moving it to Monday. It would also not surprise me to see TBBT move back to its Thursday dominance but for Elementary to stay wherever it is planted in the beginning.
ReplyDeleteI know that, what I meant is they can premier in Nov. and have less breaks or a short season.
ReplyDeleteReally, 2006? Wow. Never noticed till this year.
ReplyDeleteGuess it must have just been new to Sportsnet, because I never remember it being a problem ever before.
