Supernatural: Tribes - Spin-Off Character Details

ENNIS ROTH | The de-facto star of the potential series, Ennis is “likeable, strong-willed, resolute, with a strong sense of justice.” He’s the son of a cop who grew up in poverty. He’s en route to the police academy himself when someone he is close to is murdered — presumably by some kind of monster. He meets up with Sam and Dean and “learns the staggering truth” that Chicago is run by five families of monsters (including, but perhaps not limited to, werewolves and shape shifters). And with that, a new monster-hunter is born. Fun fact: Producers are looking to fill this role with an African-American actor in his early 20s.

DAVID HAYDEN | A shape-shifter from one of Chicago’s ruling monster families. He’s been living as a human for some time, but a tragedy propels him back into the life. David is in his early 20s.

MARGO HAYDEN | David’s “professional, strong-willed, determined, ambitious” shape-shifter sister. She’s an “ex-punk rocker gone corporate” who sets out to be the new head of the family in the wake of a tragedy. Margo is in her early 20s.

VIOLET DURANT | A werewolf and part of the wealthy, powerful Durant family. In a twist right out of West Side Story, the early-twentysomething is hot for family rival David (see above), but their love is forbidden.

JULIAN DURANT | Violet’s “savagely handsome, strong, arrogant” twentysomething brother and Ennis’ arch nemesis.

FREDDIE COSTA | A world-weary copy in his 30s, Freddie has a soft spot in his heart for Ennis (he knew his dad back in the day). Fun fact: Eddie’s got a secret.

  1. the Ennis Roth character sounds horrible... and that's the main character.

  2. this sounds like some kind of daytime soap and i find it odd that they are just throwing this into the spn world when clearly we've never heard of this before about Chicago. doesn't sound to good.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Don't like the name Ennis, especially for a guy who should give off Dean or Sam's vibe.
If all other characters get killed off in the pilot and Ennis continues on his journey then i guess we are talking about the supernatural spin off. I don't want to see the show about shape-shifters and werewolves antics, (i got tvd and to for that) and especially a hunter compromising with them.

  4. This sounds like an insult to the original series of SPN. I certainly have no interest in this.
"Chicago's ruling monster family"! What is this a spin-off of a mafia show.
    Supernatural Sopranos. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  5. This doesn't sound like supernatural spin-off at all.I was initally worried about flash, but now more for this show which will bomb inevitably unless miracle happens!! and BTW,what kind of a name is ennis roth..and he is the main lead, good god!!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Exactly, what is this The Originals? I don't want to see a ruling family of shape-shifters i want to see them dead by the hands of an awesome hunter. A good monster is a dead monster.
There are a lot of show with supernatural creatures investigating cases but Supernatural is the only one with humans struggling to save the world. They have no claws no sharp fang, no super speed or strength and that's what makes it so interesting.

  7. Agreed.
The thing is that SPN is a particuar kind of show based on the charisma of two hunting brothers and their journey.
It's a show that is almost impossible to create a spin-off from.
Whatever this new show is going to be, it has nothing to so with the original Supernatural

  8. Yeah, an entire city run by families of monsters. I think someone may have noticed lol. This feels like a failed Pilot pitch that they looked at and said, "What if we attach it to Supernatural?".

I'll wait and see but nothing about this sounds promising.

  9. They could have at least keep the main storyline intact, a hunter or two on the road always travelling. And it would be really easy to make the audience like the new characters if they brought them into supernatural and made really good friends with winchesters. There is plenty of time for that since supernatural is not going anywhere for at least 2 seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Oh my goodness, it sounds like Twilight. Forbidden love and werewolves. Yuk

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah, but these writers gave us 'Man's Best friend with Benefits' A sort of one episode spin-off of SPN. It was pathetic so I wasn't expecting anything better!
    x
There's also a romantic Romeo/ Guliette theme in the character list, I see. Yucky.

  12. This spinoff sounds like elements of Being Human and the Originals to me. I really wish there wouldn't be a spinoff of Supernatural until the original series is over. TPTB and the writers need to concentrate on making Supernatural the amazing show it once was.

Frankly, I'm surprised that there was no mention of vampires. And if, at some point, there are gonna be vampires, I hope thst they are Supernatural's version, teeth and all.

  14. this doesnt sound interesting it`s like watching TVD with TO and Buffy ....

  15. the complaints are unwarrented at this point remember sleepy hollow and reign comments last year everyone thought the shows would be epic disasters.
This not being like supernatural could be a good thing , l love it but the show is sexist as hell . The main danger with this show is not coming off like an originals knockoff we can complain after we see actual footage of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  16. We should have known what we are about to get the moment we read the crappy name Tribes? no thank i got enough tribes on other shows i want Supernatural 2.0

    ReplyDelete
  17. This description remind me of the last episode with Garth and the family of werewolfs, I think the producers are try to change the perspective that the monsters are not just monsters enough. I don't think will work, but hey let's wait for the cast and see what happen next.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I was on board until it got all Romeo and Juliet forbidden love. To put it politely, are you freaking kidding me?!

  19. emma jane thorpe2 February 2014 at 18:05

    this is blasphemous to supernatural!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes everyone is in their early 20 and "savagely handsome and arrogant" and ready for romance.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Aside from the crappy title, this actually sounds interesting to me. But seriously, please change the title.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This shows that these writers haven't a clue about what SPN is about. It has never been about romance but about fighting evil and saving people.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I wish this wasn't set in the Supernatural universe/wouldn't be a spin-off. This should be it's own show.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's just a casting call for the character, not the official synopsis or the whole serie's plot, give it a chance people, it could go either way

    ReplyDelete
  25. I couldn't have said it better myself. I know people tend to have an aversion to spinoffs but I was genuinely rooting for this show.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Please don't lump Buffy with those shows.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It doesnt sound bad, but i was kinda hoping for Charlie from Supernatural to be the lead.

    So far pilots from CW:

    1. iZombie
    2. Flash
    3. Supernatural Tribes
    4. Identity
    5. Jane the Virgin

    ReplyDelete
  28. So is it Freddie or Eddie?

    ReplyDelete
  29. If you are CW fan and know about 5 pilots they ordered so far , could you please order them from your favorite to least favorite? Im interested to see what is people´s favorite pilot so far

    ReplyDelete
  30. 1. Flash
    2. iZombie
    3. Supernatural: Tribes
    4. Identity
    5. Jane the Virgin

Of the shows they still haven't ordered pilots for, Unfamous, Dorothy Must Die, Hourman and The Perfectionists also interest me.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I knew it is going to be relocated Grimm with cut budget. Almost police officer who lost loved one + monsters as Chicago mafia tribes? Forbidden love? (please, no, this sounds so CWish).
I don't know. It's not a SPN spin-off by any means. Its a hybrid of many supernatural-based shows including SPN, but not a branch from the mother-tree. The premise is different by any means.
Hope they cast well. "Likable" is not something you can manufacture on screen. Actor has to have a natural charisma. That's what keeps SPN alive for so long: J2's charisma , chemistry and talent. If audience doesn't fall in love with main character from the first sight - good luck .
And yes, Ennis sounds horrendous. Just no.

    ReplyDelete
  32. is it me or it sounds like a mix of teem wolf, spn and many other but similar shows about supernatural characters?....

    ReplyDelete
  33. Im here for DMD and Hourman too. Unfamous sounds kinda boring. Didnt know about The Perfectionists but i looked it up and it sounds pretty good too. Hopefully they will announce at least 3 more pilots too :)

I still dont understand why did they pick Jane and Identity when they have much better shows in development

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't care for Supernatural at all, but I'm willing to give this one a shot because it sounds nothing like the original show. It sounds like a mixture of The Originals and Teen Wolf. I like both shows, so this might be interesting. I don't care for the forbidden love part of the character description, though. Violet may be into David, but I saw no mention of him being into her, so it may be unrequited love which could be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. seriously well said. It's so CW!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I assume they want Identity to take Nikita's place. Nikita supposedly did well outside of the US but poorly in the US. As for Jane, I assume they are looking for a Hart of Dixie replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Or maybe they don't want to use SPN's core idea for a new show.

It doesn't sound good to me either, but I'm glad they aren't ripping off SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ennis isn't a bad name. I'm more annoyed at the backstories.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't think that was ever intended to be a spinoff.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Is it me or does this sound somewhat like StarCrossed except for monster/monster over alien/human with the addition of a hunter?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't see how it insults the original show. Even if it sucks, it is its own show.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Really rolling my eyes at the love story parts of this and it all sounds dated and forced, especially the punk rock element.

With that said, I really like the idea of a POC being the lead. This is what I would have wanted for Gordon Walker before the show made him so evil.

I also like that this show has some female characters. Please don't ruin them with romance.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It sounds like too many shows which are currently on air and unfortunately none of them is superantural, it's the biggest problem people have with it, why call it a spin off, rip off countless other shows but not the one you are actually supposed to rip off?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh. My. God. They've finally managed to truly CW Supernatural. How does someone in their early twenties have a career as a punk rocker and then become a corporate powerhouse? Really? So. Lame. And the OLD man of the series is in his 30s? So not interested in 90210/One Tree Hill with monsters. Please let this be a joke or the work of a troll...

    ReplyDelete
  45. God please nooo, no Charlie!
In small doses she is fine but i wouldn't watch a show about her, even the pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  46. That is very very true!

    ReplyDelete
  47. They didn't say she's a powerhouse, they said she's gone corporate. I assume that means she's left it behind to try for a corporate career.

It doesn't sound that great, but I like a few of the ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Also? When is the CW going to realize that their demographic is 20-something lovesick girls?

    ReplyDelete
  49. To me that makes it sound like they created the character purely so she could be a love interest for the guy, which is both disappointing and par for the course in regards to the Supernatural.

Seriously, the audience is predominantly female, would it have killed them to make the lead a woman? Hell, even a WOC?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I guess I was conflating the gone corporate with taking over as the head of her Tribe - because the life of a punk rocker would prepare you for those two career choices... Sorry if I sound crabby, but this just all sounds like the worst kind of drivvle to me. Great they are casting some women and POC, but give them decent characters to play. Just nothing of interest here for me.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Exactly, so much for braking a harmful stereotype of teen girls channel. They should know by now that average SPN fan is in his middle to late 30th.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Nicolás Caballero Mühlbach2 February 2014 at 20:33

I love the world of iZombie, I hope they respect the comic.

    ReplyDelete
  53. It's probably a typo. There's another typo in the same description where they call Freddie "Eddie". So they probably meant that he's a cop.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Then they should call it Tribes without the SPN reference at all.

If there is not going to be any call back to the original then don't say it's a spin-off.

    ReplyDelete
  55. it does insult the original show because the writers are using the fan love for SPN to try and attract them to a show which doesn't seem to have anythigng in common with it.

So in a way it's cheating the viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  56. People, give it a try. Both Jared and Jered were twenty-something when SPN started, we'll have to wait for the casting.

I actually like that there are going to be female recurring characters, and shapeshifters as main characters.

    ReplyDelete
  57. It sounds perfect for the CW. However, we have to see it before we can decide.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I will give it a try as a new show with supernatural elements, but not as a spin-off of my beloved SPN. And yes, Jared and Jensen(BTW) were in their 20-th 9 years ago, but it WAS a new show, not a spin-off which supposedly should be appealing to current SPN fandom who is in their 30th-40th in average by now.

    ReplyDelete
  59. There is a callback - the show has hunters and monsters.

    ReplyDelete
  60. None of the characters in the spinoff really sound like Charlie or Garth. Ennis reminds me a little of Dean, or Gordon Walker, in the description.

    ReplyDelete
  61. One of the problems is that to many viewers, understandably, there is no appeal without Jensen and Jared. I don't think they should run away from what makes SPN special, but I don't think they can rely on it either.

    ReplyDelete
  62. ROFL! It's just a draft and we shouldn't judge it by this, but my first thought as I read it was it's written by a hero-worshiping rockstar-wannabe teenage girl with a fetish for brothers and sisters and of course into dramatic love, in like 15-20 years ago.
Also I already feel sorry for Chicago and its higher-ups! lol

    ReplyDelete
  63. This sounds so bad. Hopefully it won't be?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Really low chances on that, Felicia Day is a commodity; she's always busy and as of a time now she is more a producer than an actress I'd say.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'd contest you about the romance thing: You can have romance on a story as a thread, but why be so freaking trite about it?

Romance can be awesome for a story, as any other relationship between characters can be, but they faff it so often that now it has a huge stigma.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Meh... unless the characters really pop up from their archetypical roles and the chemmistry between the cast doesn't mesh I can't say this sounds too interesting....

    ReplyDelete
  67. It sounds less like a spin off, more like a tie in, like they will have Ennis on an episode and then afterwards, start the show. Maybe even a two parter. It's like all those (albeit failed) pilots they tried to start in the early 80's by having the characters guest star on Dukes of Hazzard.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I dont necessarily agree. Shape shifters are not always bad, they are born with the affliction and if raised by good people or as a part of a family of them so they are not treated badly, they could be raised as good. Also remember Heart, she was not a bad person, she was just turned into a werewolf. Violet and David sound like they could be good people. Not saying the show will be good but even Sam and occasionally Dean realize that not all Monsters are bad. Also the main character is human as will be the cops so...

    ReplyDelete
  69. I don't like the Ennis Roth character. Only one hunter in the spin-off? Come on. I can live with the fact that that series will remain focused within the city of Chicago, but it needs to be about hunters killing monsters. Since season 6, I never found the Supernatural monsters very threatening but rather silly. The only frightening villains were demons and vengeful ghosts. No silly demi-gods or angels. Certainly not a turf war between shifters and werewolves. It's starting to sound like True Blood (and that's not a compliment).

    ReplyDelete
  70. Ennis? Brokeback Monster? :P I liked the movie so please no downvotes for my attempt at joking!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Sounds so much like The Originals. lol

    ReplyDelete
  72. I really hoped this show would have a woman as the main character. *Sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  73. Doesn't sound all that promising, but it's hard to really get a feel for the show based on dry character descriptions. Will wait and see what it looks like when the do the episode as a part of SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  74. If it is adapted off of SN and its lore, I can't think of a reason hunters would let family's of monsters rule Chicago, they would have wiped them out somehow.

Ennis Roth is laughable "Oh bollocks its those bloody Winchesters and Ennis",Crowley would have a field day, but yet again, they could write him going by Roth, as it gives it a bit more of a hunter feeling.

Oh well all we can do is give it a chance and see how it turns out.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I think you've hit the nail on the head - SPN started going downhill the moment it lost the great Kim Manners - who was my draw for watching the show in the first place...

    ReplyDelete
  76. I guess I'm late posting here because I just now realized this was here. Honestly, I'm really not hopeful about this spin-off. I love Supernatural, but I read through a lot of the comments here and I understand a lot of the concern with it. Where the heck are the hunters that are saving people and hunting things? Monster families running a major city?? Doesn't sound very promising to me. I'll give it a go, but like I said, I'm not hopeful. It could surprise me, who knows? Someone said they didn't like the back stories. They don't sound very good to me, either. It just doesn't sound promising altogether. I don't think it will draw the ratings or the fan-following that Supernatural does...or last as long, but as I said, it could turn around and surprise me. I guess we'll see.
