A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.
ALMOST HUMAN, "Perception", February 10, 2014, Actors: Karl Urban, Peter Flemming
The Scene: Agent Reynolds interviews John
Darth Locke: Internal Affairs Agent Reynolds interviews John and makes assumptions about John's memory in a threatening way, as he warns John to look at his own father. There were a lot of great scenes in the episode. All of the guest cast really shined, but this scene took a bite out of the sadness of the episode and gave it a sharp mysterious edge, as Agent Reynolds opens the doors for John's more personal story.
BANSHEE, "Armies of One", February 14, 2014, Actors: Matthew Rauch, Harrison Thomas
The Scene: Burton kills Jason Hood
DarkUFO: Burton killing Jason Hood, simply terrifying and brutal.
Sandi wich: Same, including the look inside Burton's crazed mind after the murder.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, "Till Death", February 10, 2014, Actors: Jay Ryan, Kristin Kreuk, Sendhil Ramamurthy, The Scene: Vincent sees Cat and Gabe kissing
Virginia Fontana: Vincent looking through the window at Cat and Gabe kissing. An excruciating moment of romantic angst.
HART OF DIXIE, "Act Naturally", February 10, 2014, Actors: Kaitlyn Black, Cress Williams
The Scene: Annabeth tells off Lavon for stringing her along
Virginia Fontana: Annabeth telling off Lavon for stringing her along when he knew he wasn't 100% committed to their relationship in the longterm. I loved how sassy and righteous she was! She managed to put everything she was feeling at that moment into the perfect words.
HELIX, "Survivor Zero", February 14, 2014, Actors: Hiroyuki Sanada, Kyra Zagorsky and more
The Scenes: Dr. Hatake saves Dr. Julia Walker from Constance & Daniel meets Anana
Darth Locke: Dr. Hatake saves Dr. Julia Walker from Constance and returns her to the lab upstairs. The introduction of Constance (and her state of being) allows for Hatake to look as less of a villain and allows for a more endearing performance from actor Hiroyuki Sanada.
A Dahne: Daniel is the most interesting character on Helix right now for me, since he feels almost Stockholm Syndrome loyal to Hatake. Learning that he was kidnapped away from hsi family and that he has a twin out there should be explosive. Honorable mention though to the Constance vs. Hatake scene. She is one cool killer.
HOUSE OF CARDS, "Chapter 14", February 14, 2014, Actors: Kevin Spacey, Kate Mara
The Scene: Underwood addresses the viewer at the end & Frank and Zoe at the subway station
Jimmy Ryan: The stunning and pioneering Netflix political drama 'House of Cards' is back, and it's better than ever. I won't say much more to avoid spoiling others who haven't watched the entire second season already, but for me, the best scene in the second season comes at the end of the first episode, where Underwood, having said goodnight to his wife, looks straight at the viewer using the reflection of the mirror, and asks "Did you think I'd forgotten you? Perhaps you hoped I had?" He goes on to say "There is but one rule. Hunt, or be hunted. Welcome back." The camera then lowers down to focus on a pair of cuff links, that, when sat side beside each other, say "F U". Simply put, this scene was an incredible piece of acting and writing, and one which contrasts the first season and series premiere, where Underwood addresses the viewer in the first minute as he strangles an injured dog. If House of Cards was on television, it would be the best television series in the world, and this masterful scene is just one of the many reasons why.
Max Conte: For pure shock factor (also trying to avoid spoilers for those who haven't seen), the scene between Frank & Zoe at the subway station in 2x01.
JUSTIFIED, "Kill the Messenger", February 11, 2014, Actors: Timothy Olyphant, Nick Searcy
The Scene: Art punches Raylan after he arrives at the bar (picked by Max Conte)
TEEN WOLF, "Riddled", February 10, 2014, Actors: Dylan O'Brien, Tyler Posey
The Scenes: Scott comforts Stiles & The switch from Stiles to possessed!Stiles
Justyna Kubica: There were a few episodes I quite enjoyed last week and scenes I thought were pretty good, but nothing even compares to this one. Easily, my Scene Of The Week, and to be honest, maybe even my favorite scene of the last few weeks. I could spend a lot of time writing about another brilliant performance by Dylan O'Brien in the latest Teen Wolf hour, but I'll just say that I'm very much impressed by his talent and I'm so grateful to the writers for giving him such an interesting and challenging storyline this season. Things are pretty amazing, when they focus on Stiles like that. And this scene, where he tells his best friend that there's quite a big possibility that he's sick and there's no cure, was very emotional and beautifully done. The friendship between Scott and Stiles is, without a doubt, one of the best things about the show, the bond between them is what makes it so great and I love all their moments, especially the important ones like this. I'm not quite sure how I feel about Scott's idea to turn Stiles into a werewolf if he has to, I always liked and appreciated Stiles' role as a human rock for all the supernatural people on the show, but I'm still very moved by McCall's reaction to the news. And the hug was both heartwarming and absolutely heartbreaking. These two! And their parents looking through the glass only made this even more powerful. At this point I might have been in tears, but let's move on. Kudos to the cast & crew for their wonderful work!
A Dahne: Stiles tells Scott that they are testing for frontotemporal dementia, which has no cure, and Scott swears that he will fix it (basically turn Stiles into a werewolf to keep him from dying) if it comes down to it. Then them hugging while their parents look on. It was a hugely touching scene, one that had me sniffing and I rarely cry at TV. Best scene on TV since the Sleepy Hollow finale in my opinion. Teen Wolf is hugely underrated.
Diana Mack: The scene at the hospital in which Scott hugs Stiles for comfort. So sweet those two. It only proves me more how much their friendship is strong.
Klutzy girl: The switch from Stiles to possessed!Stiles. Dylan O'Brien is an amazing actor and that split second switch was wow. It was terrifying.
THE FOLLOWING, "Family Affair", February 10, 2014, Actors: Kevin Bacon, Jessica Stroup, Camille De Pazzis, The Scene: Max and Ryan chase and fight Gisele on the subway (picked by DarkUFO)
THE FOSTERS, "Padre", February 10, 2014, Actors: Teri Polo, Maia Mitchell
The Scene: Stef talks to Callie about her mother and the necklace
Klutzy girl: That was an amazing, emotional scene that nearly made me cry. I loved the entire conversation.
THE MUSKETEERS, "The Good Soldier", February 9, 2014, Actors: Santiago Cabrera and more
The Scenes: The face-off between Aramis, Marsac and Treville & The Musketeers confront Treville
Sandi wich: Aramis, Marsac and Treville face off about the true reasons for the ambush.
A Dahne: The varying state of loyalty to Treville each Musketeer felt made the scene even more charged. When Treville refused to answers any of their questions and in turn threatened them, their reactions were unique but no less intense.
THE WALKING DEAD, "After", February 9, 2014, Actors: Andrew Lincoln, Chandler Riggs and more
The Scenes: Carl fights off the zombies & Carl and Rick talk at the end and spot Michonne
DarkUFO: Carl fights off the zombies who pile on top of him.
Klutzy girl: Carl and Rick are talking at the end when Rick spots Michonne. It was a pretty great episode - one that actually made me like Carl - and the end was great.
TRUE DETECTIVE, "Who Goes There", February 9, 2014, Actors: Matthew McConaughey and more
The Scene: The entire end sequence
Max Conte: Rust going undercover with The Iron Crusaders, leading a raid on the stash house.
