Tuesday 2/04/14 Metered Market Ratings
Clean Sweep for CBS
Household
Rating/Share
CBS 9.9/15
NBC 4.4/ 7
ABC 3.1/ 5
Fox 2.4/ 4
CW 1.6/ 2
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 2/05/13:
CW: +45, NBC: +13, CBS: – 1, Fox: -11, ABC: -38
———-
-Winners:
“NCIS” (CBS), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (CBS), “Person of Interest” (CBS)
-Honorable Mention:
“The Biggest Loser” (NBC)
-No Traction After the Super Bowl Exposure:
“New Girl” (Fox), “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (Fox)
-Losers:
“Trophy Wife” (ABC), “Killer Women” (ABC)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another clean Tuesday overnight household sweep for CBS with its combination of “NCIS” (12.0 rating/19 share), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (9.8/15) and “Person of Interest” (8.0/12), which outdelivered failed year-ago occupant “Vegas” (6.6/11 on 2/05/13) by 21 percent.
In season-finale news, two hours of “The Biggest Loser” on NBC scored a 4.9/ 8 from 9-11 p.m., peaking in the 10 p.m. half-hour with a 5.2/ 8. Comparably, that was 41 percent above the expanded season-premiere of musical dramedy “Smash” on the year-ago evening (3.7/ 6 on 2/04/13). And it beat 8 p.m. special “Winter Gold”: NBC’s First Look at the Sochi Winter Olympics (#3: 3.6/ 6 at 8 p.m.) by 44 percent.
Over at Fox, the positive news was overnight retention of 96 percent for the Tuesday 9:30 p.m. time period premiere of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and a stronger performance than recent occupant “The Mindy Project.” But a 2.5/ 4 (#2) for the Golden Globe winner out of a fourth-place 2.6/ 4 for “New Girl” at 9 p.m. means that the added exposure from “Super Bowl XVLIII” was not necessarily beneficial. “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” did, however, beat competing “Trophy Wife” on ABC (#3: 2.3/ 3) by nine percent.
Earlier in the evening on Fox was “Dads” at a typical 2.4/ 4 (#4) at 8 p.m., followed by a repeat of the pilot episode of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” at a 2.1/ 3 (#4) at 8:30 p.m.
Elsewhere, ABC had nothing unusual to report (which is not a good thing) for its line-up of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (#2: 4.2/ 7), “The Goldbergs” (#3: 3.3/ 5), aforementioned “Trophy Wife” (#4: 2.3/ 3) and recent failed drama entry “Killer Women” (#3: 2.3/ 4). And “The Originals” and perfectly compatible lead-out “Supernatural” on The CW each scored a 1.6/ 2 in the overnights, which together was 45 percent above the year-ago combination of “Hart of Dixie” and the series finale of “Emily Owens, M.D.”

God,I love those in the 'winners' list!!!!!!!!!!!...can't wait to see the numbers!
ReplyDeletepretty disappoiinting for FOX; they wasted their post superbowl slot.
ReplyDeleteDisappointing for New Girl and B-99.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! Another great week of ratings for Supernatural!!!
ReplyDeleteS.H.I.E.L.D. seems to be up from the 3.9 in the HH rating that it got for the previous original airing. CBS a bit down from the original airings, but probably wont affect the ratings much. Guess FOXs comedies didn't gain anything from the post Superbowl spot.
ReplyDeleteWell that is underwhelming for New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine; we'll have to see the demos later, but still very disappointing
ReplyDeleteDid he just say something positive about Supernatural? (I don't watch the show but notice how he always makes negative comments about it)
ReplyDeleteThe NG & B99 ratings are only a disappointment because people set their expectations way too high. Big ratings spikes from scripted show superbowl episodes simply don't happen anymore. The biggest gain in the last three years was Glee going from 4.4 pre-superbowl to 4.6 post-post-superbowl. Elementary saw absolutely no gain. The Office actually dropped. Post super-bowl slot does nothing.
ReplyDeleteThe positive? Looks like Brooklyn 99 might do well in that post-New Girl slot.
Well, as I expected, not much of a bump for NG and Nine-Nine.
ReplyDeleteNine Nine will improve its numbers but because of New Girl's lead in being better than Dads'.
Its funny you say that because Marc never really said anything negative about the show. Last year the series hit a low and basically that is all he reported. When he did say something about the show,it was the truth, the ratings sucked,it was an older show not doing well but he never came out and said the show shouldn't be on the air anymore.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like FOX should've went with Almost Human after the Superbowl. And in late February when Glee comes back to Tuesday, it's not gonna make any difference because Glee is gonna get slaughtered by PLL, The Originals and The Voice.
ReplyDeleteActually it didn't hit a low last year. It increased. It did just below/on par with arrow. Some weeks it even beat arrow yet berman refused to acknowledge it and just repeatedly called it "tired", even though it was doing just as well as a freshman show.
ReplyDeleteWell, I know a lot of people that thought it was tired, but that isn't here nor there. My point was that no matter what he said about the show the fans for the most part were always in a uproar. This columm is about the numbers, but at times the fans forgot about that and read more into it than there actually was..
ReplyDeleteI don't have an issue with Mark's comments, but not sure where you think it hit a low. Supernatural had the most percentage increase in 18-49 year-to-year last TV season. It was even posted on this site. It's ratings did not suck for the CW, it was just behind Arrow.
ReplyDeleteI'll take your word for it,i didn't look it up.But that really wasn't the point of my comment.
ReplyDeleteWell it was a big part of your comment, so I figured I'd point it out. I think what had people angry was how he was stating the Arrow lead in was being wasted with SPN as a lead out, when SPN would usually only be one tenth behind. But what Mark was referring to, were the HH numbers, which usually were a big difference, because Arrow had quite a bit more overall viewers last year. But when the demos were released, they were very close. I even saw a few times once the demos came out, that Mark moved the show out of "losers" and one time even into "winner".
ReplyDeleteYAY (again) for SPN!!!
ReplyDeleteNo.It wasn't a big part of my comment, you just took it that way. I'm not here to argue,go back into the ratings from last year and look at the comments that were made concerning SPN and/or Marc's comments, maybe you just forgot...
ReplyDeleteIMO, I would classify that as Arrows lead in being wasted. The smart move would have been to put something else behind Arrow, a new show, so it could capitalize on Arrows lead in an hopefully grow. Supernatural, a show with very loyal fans who would follow it to hell and back, could have been moved to another night, possibly with another new show behind it that could have used Supernatural as a lead in to help growth. Just my opinion though.
ReplyDeleteHuh? I'm not trying to argue either. I was stating what I thought people were upset about, when it was only Mark stating the HH numbers had a big gap, which was true. I don't think you understood what I was saying. I was on your side.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think that's why it was moved. Supernatural could stand on it's own. I think other people were interpreting that they thought Mark meant Supernatural wasn't doing good out of Arrow.
ReplyDeleteI hear ya. It always puzzled me, as Supernatural is one of those shows with such a loyal fan base, they could put it on with Saturday morning cartoons and it would still pull excellent numbers, :)
ReplyDeleteHe actually stated that Supenatural was a waste and more than once implied that it should be on the air. At best, his comments were unprofessional and passive aggressive. At best.
ReplyDeleteYep, which is why I hope they separate the Originals and Supernatural, even though they get such even ratings. I think both shows can stand on their own and support a new show each, next year.
ReplyDeleteactually the show was doing well ratings wise last year, by the end of the season it was matching or beating Arrow. His problem was with SPN's retention out of Arrow's HH ratings which in the grand scheme of things means jack shit.
ReplyDeleteYes, this is what I was explaining. Thank you.
ReplyDeletewhile I think SPN fans do react badly at times to Bermans comments for no reason, the truth is that SPN's ratings are good this year and last. Personal opinion on the quality of a show shouldnt really come in to it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this. I actually thought it was supposed to lead to a huge increase.
ReplyDeleteI think Marc loves the majority of Cbs shows and dislikes the majority of Cw shows. To each his own, but he's a tv journalist, so I think he should be more professional on his posts. He rarely adds a Cw show to the list of winners.
ReplyDeleteHe can say how much he loves Mom and Survivor of Cbs, but that shouldn't influence his thoughts on the chances of renewal of the first, and I remember he saying that Mom is a must watch show just 'cause he likes it a lot.
what?
ReplyDeleteLast season SPN was sused to launch Arrow on Wednesday night. Arrow did well and SPN's ratings increased both from being paired with a show that people actually watched and from being moved away from friday. SPN's ratings out of Arrow were very good (A18-49) by the second half of the season they were neck and nexk and by the end of the season SPN was pulling ahead. CW then did the smart thing and seperated thetwo to help launch two new shows.
I'm not sure what you're going on about but maybe you should fact check first
his criteria for whether a CW show makes any of the lists tends to vary from day to day. Truthfully his lists mean nothing.
ReplyDelete"Last year the series hit a low and basically that is all he reported. When he did say something about the show,it was the truth, the ratings sucked"
ReplyDeleteHit low? ratings sucked? Dude are you sure we are living on a same world?
be happier that these shows do well in the A18-49 demo
ReplyDeleteTrust me i am not defending this guy.I take what he says with a grain of salt because of what comes out of his mouth. He has proven to be a jackass for the most part. I ignore what he says about the shows and just read the numbers, its easier and less frustrating.
ReplyDeleteYep,that's why i wait for the numbers. Not worried about NCIS tho.
ReplyDeleteDude, did you not read my last sentence?
ReplyDeleteI don't think they refreshed the page.
ReplyDeleteAnd I still don't think it was necessary, thus why I qualified my statement as an opinion...
ReplyDeletethat show always does amazing
ReplyDeleteby all means have an opinion but at least base your opinion on actual ratings, I would say thats pretty importnat when you're on a ratings related thread.
ReplyDeleteGlee's problems dont lie with the day it airs but with the lack of direction storyline wise. They should have followed the core characters to New York from the get go. Now they I believe are going to try to switch to NY at some point in the season when I personally thing the damage has already been done.

FOX sitcoms did horribly.
ReplyDeleteThe Goldbergs is steady buth Aos and Trophy Wife are disappointing.
NCIS:LA almost caught up with the mother ship, but this makes POI looks worse in comparison.
Point missed entirely, done with you man. Peace.
ReplyDeleteSo the Stan Lee guest appearance basically did nothing for AoS.
ReplyDeleteGood for Person of Interest !!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't expect for New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine to do so bad!!! Hopefully they'll do better next time, but still :(
ReplyDeleteThat B99 rating in millions of viewers cannot possibly be correct.
ReplyDeleteit did 3.22 million, there is a mistake in the table
ReplyDeleteThat was the repeat episode.
ReplyDeleteSurprised that CBS haven't renewed their entire Tuesday night line-up yet, look at how steady the two NCIS shows are and POI has survived the move from Thursday.
ReplyDeleteCollege basketball pre-emptions on CBS & CW in a few small markets could cause adjustments in their preliminary ratings
ReplyDeleteYeah bb9 is a flop
ReplyDeleteNew girl will only be safe for syndication purpose
Agreed!
ReplyDeleteAnd some people are saying the ratings are down! Other networks would give their first born for ratings like that!
ReplyDeleteI really didn't expect it to affect the ratings at all.
ReplyDeleteNote: CBS was preempted in
ReplyDeleteGreensboro. and Raleigh North Carolina & the CW was preempted in
Baltimore and Richmond from 8-10PM due to college basketball coverage
Shit- Agents of Shield was really great last night! I was hoping it would do better in the ratings :/
ReplyDeleteNcis strong AOS stable and hopefully adjust up
ReplyDeleteOuch for the Originals. Usually it does better and has about the same (a little less) viewers than Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteHUGE drop for Originals. WOW. Cool for S.H.I.E.L.D
ReplyDeleteI think putting an old hand together with a new show made sense for both shows. They had no idea how well Arrow would do. The show's success helped it, and seemed to help SPN. And SPN seemed to help Arrow.
ReplyDeleteThis season we're seeing that again. The Originals and SPN helping each other.
So TO and SPN might adjust down?
ReplyDeleteI agree with that. I just think SPN should have been moved away from it earlier in the season, as Arrow found its audience pretty quickly. But hindsight is 20/20 they and your right, they couldn't have known Arrows stability would remain.
ReplyDeleteYay PoI. Good to see that AoS is stable. It may not be the hit they'd hoped it would be, but it's more than serviceable given the state of the network, and a no-brainer renewal.
ReplyDelete
