Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

Positive Sampling for “Growing Up Fisher” out of The Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony

Household
Rating/Share
NBC 8.7/13
CBS 4.0/ 6
Fox 3.8/ 6
ABC 3.3/ 5

Note: The year-to-year comparisons are excluded during the XXII Winter Olympics

—–

-Winners:
“The Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony” (NBC). “Growing Up Fisher” (NBC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
Nothing…only competing “60 Minutes” and “The Amazing Race” on CBS were in originals.

—–

-Ratings Breakdown:
It certainly was not as large as any of the evenings with actual “Winter Olympics” event coverage. But the Closing Ceremony on NBC last night scored a dominant 8.2 rating/13 share in the household overnights from 7-10:30 p.m. ET, peaking in the 8:30 p.m. half-hour with a 10.9/16. Needless to say, this was a very successful two-week event for NBC. Now the question, of course, is if the momentum will continue on the primetime line-up and in late night.

Airing out of The Closing Ceremony was the preview/premiere of sitcom “Growing Up Fisher” at a first place 6.5/11 at 10:30 p.m., which held 77 percent of the 8.4/13 for the lead-in at 10 p.m. “Growing Up Fisher” debuts in its regularly scheduled time period – Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. – tomorrow out of “About a Boy” (which previewed at 11:05 p.m. ET on Saturday). While both half-hours are unlikely to perform at their Winter Olympics-ignited preview levels, airing out of “The Voice” from 8-9 p.m. will not hurt.

In season-premiere news, “The Amazing Race” on CBS, featuring an All-Star Edition, scored an estimated 5.3/ 8 (#2) in the 8 p.m. hour. Part of that overnight average was “60 Minutes,” which began at 7:13 p.m. ET due to a late start for the Eye net’s primetime line-up. All individual program results for CBS are, therefore, estimated. Aforementioned “60 Minutes” was below average at a 5.8/10 in the 7 p.m. hour, while a 9-10 p.m. encore edition of “The Mentalist” (#4: 2.4/ 4) led into a repeat of “The Good Wife” at a 2.3/ 4 from 10-11 p.m. Given that CBS tends to cancel one veteran crime solver every season, “The Mentalist” will likely be the next to go.

Over at Fox was a night of all repeats – “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 2.7/ 5), “American Dad” (#4: 2.4/ 4), “The Simpsons” (#3: 3.8/ 6), the regularly scheduled edition of “Bob’s Burgers” (#2: 4.6/ 7), “Family Guy” (#3: 4.8/ 7) and the regularly scheduled edition of “American Dad” (#2: 4.7/ 7) – from 7-10 p.m. And ABC, also in all repeats, populated the evening with an veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#3: 3.7/ 6 at 7 p.m.), 2009 theatrical “The Proposal” (#4: 3.3/ 5 from 8-10 p.m.) and a Sunday 10 p.m. edition of “Castle” (#2: 2.8/ 5).

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

  1. I really hope The Amazing Race can at least get a 1.8 for the premiere although facing the Olympics.

  2. Thank you Disqus for finally changing the downvoting,at least it doesn't tally how many one gets!

    ReplyDelete
  3. But what's the point of down vote button when you can't see the number of downvotes? Why not just remove the downvote feature?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Why they didn't just do away with the down vote button altogether they didn't give a reason. Yes,i agree with you they should have, but at least they did something in terms of addressing the problem that a lot of people had with it.

  5. Does this guy just copy and paste? It wasn't a night of repeats on Fox The Daytona 500 was on because of a 6 hour rain delay.

    ReplyDelete
  6. It might at least help get trolls from down voting for no reason.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yep, I agree! There's a difference in seeing just the button highlighted and actually seeing numbers highlighted in red. This should help curb the Trolls.

  8. He didn't watch last night that's for sure..And Yay,way to go Jr!

  10. 2.1 for Growing Up Fisher. Not particularly impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 2.1 and 9.4 million viewers, a lot older skewing than expected!

    ReplyDelete
  12. meh for grow up fish should do roughly the same in regular timeslot
bad #s for Amazing Race, why preimere against the closing cermonies- plus it has the oscars next week which gets 40 million

    ReplyDelete
  13. i can't lie bad #s for amazing race means better for OUAT (it could be #1 in its timeslot)

    ReplyDelete
  14. But don't old skewing shows usually the audience tends to stick with it right?

    ReplyDelete
  15. not that OUAT is in trouble but a show isn't renewed because it's #1 in a timeslot, as the whole hour in ratings across the networks could be terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  16. i know that i am just saying...

    ReplyDelete
  17. It depends on the ratio of older and younger viewers. If the viewers bolt, and the demo takes a big hit, NBC will be less inclined to keep it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. A lot people tend to leave the same channel on after something special has been on,i.e. Superbowl or Olympics, especially when whatever is on afterwards is only a half hour.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Amazing Race was up against the Olympics,i wouldn't count on it being cancelled,or that it means OUaT is going to be number one... Its too early to predict anything.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think its more problematic that the Proposal (1.5) on ABC almost tied with the Amazing Race (1.6).

    ReplyDelete
  21. It probably will fall next week.I still think its too early to say, that's my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Growing Up Fisher skews rather old. But still well above NBC's comedy average. Let's see how it does in its regular time slot.
