Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

If you are new to ratings or still confused, we recommend you read this excellent Ratings FAQ.

Early Ratings Analysis

The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

For more information on the Nielsen Ratings see this Wikipedia Entry.

NOTE: The opinions expressed here are NOT those of SpoilerTV but of the Author of this Article, Marc Berman.

Wednesday 2/19/14 Metered Market Ratings
NBC Rules; “Super Fun Night” Exits ABC with a Series Low

Household
Rating/Share
NBC 13.3/21
Fox 6.7/10
CBS 5.6/ 9
ABC 2.2/ 3
CW 0.8/ 1

Note: The year-to-year comparisons are excluded during the XXII Winter Olympics

———-

-Winners:
The Winter Olympics (NBC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Super Fun Night” (ABC)

———-

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another clean sweep for The Winter Olympics on NBC (so what else is new?), with a 13.3 rating/21 share in the household overnights (peaking in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour at a 14.6/22). Next was “American Idol” on Fox, featuring the top 15 male performers, at a 6.7/10 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably (and without the Winter Olympics in the mix), that was 28 percent below the 9.3/15 one year earlier.

In season (or series) finale news, ABC sitcom “Super Fun Night” closed with a series-low 2.1/ 3 (#4) in the overnights at 9:30 p.m., which was 30 percent below an encore of lead-in “Modern Family” (#4: 3.0/ 5 at 9 p.m.). Considering ABC buried “Super Fun Night” opposite The Winter Olympics, it is curtains.

Earlier in the evening on the alphabet net were encores of “The Middle” (#4: 3.1/ 5) and “Suburgatory” (#4: 2.1/ 3) from 8-9 p.m. Note to the Emmy voters: It is time for you to notice underrated Eden Sher as lovable Sue. And a repeat of sophomore drama “Nashville” capped off the night with a distant third-place 1.4/ 2 at 10 p.m. Given ABC current woes in the freshman drama department, “Nashville” stands a good chance for renewal.

Elsewhere, CBS populated the evening with encores of dramas “Hawaii Five-O” (#3: 3.7/ 6), “Criminal Minds” (#3: 6.7/10) and “CSI” (#2: 6.3/10), which could be parent to another spin-off series next season (click on http://tinyurl.com/lvpwope). And The CW aired repeats of “Arrow” (#5: 1.0/ 2) and on-the-fence “The Tomorrow People” (#5: 0.7/ 1), which faces an uphill battle for renewal.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

  1. Is it bad or good for CM and CSI ?

  2. We'll have to wait until the 18-49 numbers come out in about 2 hrs time.

  3. Funny how Berman is so focused on SFN, that he didn't notice that CM/CSI were both new last night. "CBS populated the evening with encores of dramas..."

  6. I noticed that too, hahahaha! I've known they were new episodes all week, so I was wondering if I had suddenly gone insane or if he had screwed up in his summary. Glad to see my mind is still in perfect shape! :P

  7. But Criminal Minds and CSI were not Repeats.

  8. This week has been such a boring week for TV, I don't know how I could have survived without Cable shows, I think next year, CSI will move to Sunday with Elementary taking the wednesday 10pm slot, maybe just for a short while, until TNF is over.

  9. TBBT/Elementary on Monday makes the most sense until TNF is over.

  10. I must agree, Sue makes The Middle!

  11. Bye bye Super Fun Night.
