-Ratings Breakdown:
Ongoing The Winter Olympics ruled on NBC, of course, with a 14.4 rating/22 share in the household overnights last night more than the four competing networks combined. The peak half-hour was a 15.8/24 at 9 p.m.

The standout on CBS, as always, was “The Big Bang Theory,” with a repeat at 8 p.m. at a second-place 7.4/11. The remainder of the Eye net schedule was encores, with “The Millers” at a 4.7/ 7 (#3) at 8:30 p.m., followed by “The Crazy Ones” (#2t, 3.1/ 5), “Two and a Half Men” (#2: 3.5/ 5) and “Elementary” (#2: 3.8/ 6) from 9-11 p.m. To those wondering what will happen now that CBS will be airing Thursday Night Football for six weeks next fall, look for a delayed launch for the night in early November. And CBS would be wise to temporarily move “The Big Bang Theory” into the Monday 8 p.m. anchor position to give the night early momentum.

Opposite The Winter Olympics, “American Idol” on Fox dipped to a distant 6.8/10 from 8-9 p.m., which was 17 percent below the 8.2/13 on the year-ago evening. Lead-out “Rake,” meanwhile, dipped to a series-low 2.9/ 4 (#3) in the overnights from 9-10 p.m., which was one-tenth of a rating point (or three percent) below the 3.0/ 5 one week earlier. Unfortunately, “Rake” is by no means a keeper on Fox.

Elsewhere, cooking competition “The Taste” on ABC dished out a mere 2.3/ 4 from 8-10 p.m., which finished fourth in each of the four half-hours. And it led into a repeat of “Scandal” at a third-place 1.7/ 3 at 10 p.m. The CW filled the night with repeats of “The Originals” (#5: 0.7/ 1) and “Arrow” (#5: 0.8/ 1), which were both just renewed for next season.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below).
