I really liked this episode, great character development and it furthered the plot nicely. We also got a nice sense of the players and what sides/factions are forming. My only real complaint is Anne Bonny, she's a very one dimensional character.
Much better than the pilot was, this one felt much more piraety to me. I dont mind Anne being the way she is, she's the only female character I actually like so far. Max & Elinor are a bit ditzy for my taste, at least least with Anne you know that if one of the male characters punched her or grabbed her around the throat she wouldn't just take it like a lil bitch like those other two did.
Anne Bonny is undeniably awesome, but I wouldn't say that Eleanor and Max are as pathetic as you claim. Not every female character can be an sword-wielding, name-taking, badass. There are different strengths available, the show is merely showing the breadth of those. I can see why Anne would be the stronger character, but I find Max and Eleanor just as enjoyable to watch to see how they cope with their respective circumstances. Unfortunately not everyone is strong enough to survive this game.
Yes but my issue is that they are trying to portray Max & Elinor as if they are strong female characters, to live/survive in Nassau in that time women in positions like Elinor & Max would in fact be tough bitches. A women who deals business with pirates would be very aggressive & strong, she would have to be to not get screwed over & the same goes for Max. My issue is that they arent doing a great job writing for those two is all, all it would take to improve them would be for the writers to make them a little more scrappy. Both those women shouldve fought back more instead of just taking the abuse.
There are different kinds of strength, not just physical. I think Max and Eleanor are very strong female characters, same goes with Anne, just not in the same way.
I agree but also feel that Max especially would not just take it like she did. In her "profession" she would a bit of a scrapper, she would wouldve made at least a lil effort to tear our Vane's eyes :D
I'm slowly getting into it. I still don't like the fact that the women are pretty much naked, but we have yet to see the men naked. I'm sure there were some tough women back then, but I do not believe for a second that any of the men would allow someone like Eleanor to cuss at them and talk like a man to them. She would have been backslapped. Not looking forward to the rape scene at all.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Booooring episode.

ReplyDeleteI love this show and hope the characters will develop over this season as they did in GoT's 1st season.
ReplyDeletetrue!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame as I really like the show otherwise. I think they've struggled a lil getting the balance right in places

ReplyDeleteuh oh :/
ReplyDeleteFirst episode was pretty poor in my opinion, but the second episode was way better.
