Tribeca - Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton to play Rashida Jones' parents, Alfred Molina to Guest, Lisa Kudrow in talks for Cameo
TBS‘ comedy pilot Tribeca is becoming a family affair, with Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton set to portray the parents of the series’ lead, played by Jones and Lipton’s’ real-life daughter, Rashida Jones. Also set for a guest starring/potential recurring role in the pilot is Alfred Molina, with Lisa Kudrow in talks for a cameo. Directed by Steve Carell form a script he wrote with his wife, Nancy Carell, Tribeca is a satirical look at a police procedural anchored by Angie Tribeca (Rashida Jones), a 10-year veteran of the LAPD. The single-camera comedy explores an eccentric but brilliant group of people who investigate crime, reveal way too much personal information, and refuse to rest until justice has been served. Molina will play Dr. Edelweiss, a solemn and serious handwriting expert who also has a penchant for toys.

Madam Secretary - Geoffrey Arend added as Regular
Body of Proof alum Geoffrey Arend has signed on as a series regular opposite Tea Leoni and Tim Daly in CBS’ drama pilot Madam Secretary, from creator/ep Barbara Hall, ep Morgan Freeman and CBS Studios. Written by Hall, the series explores the personal and professional life of a maverick female Secretary of State (Leoni) as she drives international diplomacy, wrangles office politics and balances a complex family life. Arend will play Matt, a speechwriter for Secretary of State McGill (Leoni). Lori McCreary and Tracy Mercer also exec produce.

Taraji P. Henson is reuniting with her Hustle & Flow co-star Terrence Howard for another drama project set in the hip-hop world, this time in TV. Person Of Interest alumna Henson has been tapped as the female lead opposite Howard in Etmpire, Fox‘s drama pilot from Lee Daniels, Danny Strong and Imagine’s Brian Grazer. Also cast in the project, written by Strong and to be directed by Daniels, is Jussie Smollet. Empire is described as a unique family drama set in the world of a hip-hop empire. It centers on Lucious Lyon (Howard), a charismatic, savvy music superstar who is about to take his company, Empire Entertainment, public. Raised on the streets, he has never backed away from a fight and will resort to any measures, fair or foul, to defend his beloved Empire. Henson plays Cookie Lyon, Lucious’ ex-wife and former business partner. She is a sexy, outrageous, over-the-top force who has spent 17 years of hard time in prison for dealing drugs – money she funneled directly to Lucious’ fledging music empire. Now she’s been released early for good behavior and she wants what’s hers. Smollet plays Lucious and Cookie’s middle son Jamal, a sensitive soul and musical prodigy who could easily rise to superstardom if he desired. As a gay man, he’s been rejected and judged by his father since childhood – which may explain why he steers clear of fame and prefers to keep his music “pure.” 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Imagine TV are producing, with Strong, Daniels, Grazer and Francie Calfo executive producing Empire, which is geared toward series per Fox’s new development model.

Kenneth Choi (Ironside) has landed a regular role in the NBC drama pilot Coercion, from Universal Television and Keshet Media Group. Based on the Israeli format The Gordin Cell, the high-octane thriller revolves around the O’Connor family and their extremely intelligent son, Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), a decorated American war hero and newly minted CIA analyst. Choi\ will play Sam Luttrell, the CIA station chief for New York.
