Rising star Samuel Anderson (The History Boys, Gavin & Stacey, Emmerdale) is set to join the cast of Doctor Who as a recurring character in Series 8, which will also introduce Peter Capaldi as the Doctor.

Anderson will play Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) also teaches. On joining the show Samuel Anderson said: "I was so exited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started!"

He continued: “It's a quintessential part of British culture and I can't believe I'm part of it. It's an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can't wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!".

  1. Nice it had been rumored for a while that a teacher was being added to the cast

  2. Maybe he can be the Rory to Clara's Amy.

  3. Any chance we can get 2 companions again in the future? I do like that type of dynamic. He's probably a love interest for Clara, in which case... Well done.

  4. His face looks similar to Mickey's.
Anyways, sounds like a love interest for Clara. Perhaps...the Ian to her Barbara?

  5. Now the only thing needed is a new Susan (or her return), right

  6. I hope so. I don't believe the one companion format works unless the one companion is really strong, and Clara isn't.

  7. My problem with Clara (and it's a problem with Moffat's companions in general) is that she's a special snowflake that was only interesting for her mystery and she hasn't had (till now) a life outside of The Doctor. How long until we met her family and even then it's not like they were memorable or felt like real people and not a build up for a joke? Seeing her at school, maybe seeing her family more might help develop her into an actual character that doesn't just exist to flirt with the Doctor/act as a plot device.
I don't want two companions if it means we get another uneven Rory-Amy-Doctor relationship, where Amy kept on flirting with The Doctor even after she was married, Rory wasn't sure about her love for him and barely got his own storylines and didn't even get a goodbye in the end. If he's coming along, I want him to be his own character and not just eye candy/love interest.
