Crossbones - Pushed to Summer 2014
Feb 1, 2014
Cancelled Shows
Originally, NBC had planned to air Crossbones with Grimm come midseason, but its slot was given to Season 2 of Hannibal. According to NBC, the show will now premiere in Summer of 2014.

I don't see that to be either a good or a bad sign. Hannibal has a bigger media buzz and they might want to wait until Black Sails first season is done and the fanbase wanders off to 'the other' pirate show.
ReplyDeleteThat being said I'm kinda pissy with that decision....
I think this is not a bad option. This could do well in the summer if they are serious about it. It's probably very compatible with something like Ninja Warrior or, if they really are serious about it, they could also air it after America's Got Talent.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what to feel about this!!
ReplyDeleteWell has NBC even started promoting this? Granted I only record two NBC shows but I do usually play the commercials (laziness) and I haven't seen anything. So maybe that's a good thing. And if they air it in the summer it definitely shouldn't be on Fridays.
ReplyDeleteNBC also hasn't promoted The Night Shift and Undateable, and the they both are supposed to premiere in "Winter 2014", according to NBC.
ReplyDeletewow NBC doesn't advertise for their shows...i have actually been looking forward to this show, and was trying to keep an eye out for when it's starting and it was suppose to start that soon? i'm kind of glad they did this so i can now look for it in the summer instead of find out too late it's already started...come on NBC if you want people to watch your stuff you need to actually TELL us this stuff!!
ReplyDeleteI think NBC should put Undateable on Thursdays at 9 starting in March, and if MJF is done by then, they could do two half hour episodes of Undateable. Night Shift should go to Fridays at 8.
ReplyDeleteAs long as this isn't on against Under The Dome, Devious Maids, True Blood, PLL, Big Brother or The Fosters, I'm watching.
ReplyDeleteThat (Friday @8) would not be a good slot for a new show.

ReplyDeleteI think The Night Shift would be better off airing in the summer as a Got Talent lead-out than airing in the season with minimal promotion, probably no lead-in and against huge competition.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I don't think The Night Shift is a show that would work in the summer.
ReplyDeleteSummer 2014 sounds better for a new show than Fridays at 10pm. That kind of slot just screams cancellation.
ReplyDeleteWhy not? I think summers are more open than we give them credit for.
ReplyDeleteWhile I think it's possible for a show to survive Fridays at 10, I do agree that Summer, depending on the slot, is potentially better.
ReplyDeleteCue NBC placing it on Friday 10pm during the Summer...
ReplyDeleteNot going to be half as good as Black Sails anyway
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about this show and what was going to happen with it. I'm glad Hannibal got to be after Grimm, but I was looking forward to this show. I don't know how it will do during the Summer, when exactly they'll place it, what it'll be up against and if it's even any good. I guess we'll see in a couple of months.
ReplyDeleteThat would be too stupid, I don't believe it. Their Summer Fridays should just be Dateline for two hours and repeats of Grimm at 10.
ReplyDeleteSad to hear this. I was hoping to finally have a show to watch with Grimm.
ReplyDeleteWell, you could always watch Hannibal.....
ReplyDeleteI find Hannibal extremely boring. Thus why I was looking forward to Grimm partnering with Crossbones.
ReplyDeleteTo each his own, but I think this is the first time I've heard someone complain that the show was boring (I've heard that it was too gory/not gory enough, that they didn't like the characters, that it wasn't like the movies/novels, the dialogue, the killer of the week wasn't that good....).
ReplyDeleteAt least there's still Grimm. I'm not sure if Crossbones being in the Summer increases its chances of S2 or not, has NBC had a Summer show recently that they renewed? I feel like this and Dracula were always gonna end up not performing as well and only having one season.
Any show premiering midseason on a Friday is destined to have ratings problems, so I agree that Crossbones was (and likely still is) destined to not be long for this world. Still I thought its premise sounded like a good match for Grimm, a fun world with plenty of intrigue and action. I was hoping it would captivate a winterbound audience and coerce them to stay at least partway through the spring. I know there is no danger of Grimm being canceled but being paired with a show that encouraged people to stay home would only benefit it. As for Hannibal, I am glad that it has such loyal viewers. For me that famed visual aesthetic also slows down the plot to a trickle and I am first and foremost a plot-driven viewer.
ReplyDeleteI'd actually say that Fridays have become a safe haven for genre shows (Fringe, Nikita, Grimm, Haven, etc) so even though the ratings are obviously lower, it's not necessarily a death sentence for a show. I feel like between the (planned) winter premiere and the 10 episode order and probably not enough promoting, Crossbones would have probably done about the same as Dracula (~0.9-1.0) and it wouldn't have been good enough for a renewal (depending also on the costs of the show). I do think Crossbones would have paired up well with Grimm (I was looking forward to this pair-up more than Grimm-Dracula) but I also think Hannibal works well with Grimm, and for the sake of Hannibal's longevity, I'm glad it got the Friday 10pm time-slot.
ReplyDeleteGrimm will be renewed for sure, I have a good feeling about Hannibal in its new time-slot. I doubt Dracula is getting a S2 and if NBC picks up 'Constantine' and they're smart, they'll go for a shorter episode order and put it in the Fall on Fridays with Grimm, because this kind of a show would do poorly any other day of the week (and it won't get the Post-The Voice time slot).
I've always been more character-oriented than plot-driven, if I get invested in the characters, I can stay tuned even if the plots are slow or if a certain case of the week isn't as well written as others. But I can understand it being a bit slow for people, especially the first few episodes; for me I liked the psychological horror part of it, the dream-like visuals and feel. But I can understand how it won't be for everyone.
