Synopsis: CAT AND VINCENT’S FEELINGS FOR ONE ANOTHER RE-SURFACE — In an effort to track down Sam’s captor, Vincent and Cat have to work together on Valentine’s Day, which forces Cat to evaluate whether she wants to be in a relationship with Gabe.
=======================================================================================================
My thought on this week’s writing team...
Man, was it good to have Sherri and Jenny back. It feels like forever since we’ve seen them. I absolutely adore the way they made the bromance sing and come to life. However, the gal pals were a little off. I also think that there were some nods to what’s going on behind the scenes if you look hard enough. I’m shocked at the choices they made but this show is their baby so I will give them the benefit of the doubt and enjoy what’s left of the ride they’ve planned. The dialogue was top notch and of course they threw in an explosion because well we haven’t had one in a while. I also love how they gave some more wind to the JTnT ship. I like that they opened up the world of the show a little and gave us a few new sets as well as we got to experience a more full day in the life of our favorite characters. I did find the pacing a tad bit off as well as the reveal and motivation but I’m sure there’s more to the story so I’ll wait for the bigger picture to be revealed before I comment fully.
My thoughts on this week’s directorial execution...
Stuart Gillard always brings the best out in everyone when he directs and this week was no exception. I love the mixture of lighting techniques that were employed. I also like that he managed to set a different mood with each and every set change. The way he frames his scenes are kind of genius. In short, I really love when Mr. Gillard directs.
=======================================================================================================
Cat – Yet another week of me wanting to say no comment and be done with the character of Cat. She still has yet to be relatable to me with her choice to be with Gabe. Cat lives in New York City. She is attractive, single and successful. I’m pretty sure there are tons of guys who haven’t tried to kill your ex and kidnapped you that would love a chance to woo you. I will give Cat bonus points for her finally saying what I (and quite a few other Beasties) have yelling at our screen for, oh 13 episodes now in regards to Gabe and how his past actions need to be addressed. I’m just going to throw this out there, a woman does not owe a man anything for his kindness, especially when that kindness is only there because he did something wrong. There is nothing wrong with forgiving a person for their transgressions but you should never forget what a person is a capable of. How does that saying go? Fool me once shame on you…
Dana Landon – Well, at least she didn’t turn out to be the villain. It’s a shame they rushed her backstory with a small info dump about her son and how she and Sam were on the rocks before he was “killed”/”went missing”. I’m sad that she didn’t get her happy ending but at least we will be getting more Tom Scott Everett as Sam Landon.
Gabe – Is this the final nail in the coffin for ‘Bad Guy Gabe’? I hope not. Gabe is so boring now that he spends every single frame of his screen time obsessing over Cat. Gabe still seems awfully shady. I just can’t shake the feeling that he is up to no good. Maybe I’m over analyzing or simply re-watching the episode too much, to the point where any and everything and everyone seems suspicious. I knew it was too good to be true that Gabe would be exposed as the bad guy. The question I really want to ask is that after this episode why Gabe would still want to be with Cat. Or better yet, why would he want to still hang out with people who were so quick to believe the worse about him after “everything” he has done for them?
JT – JT’s new nickname should be ‘King of the Pep Talks’. I still say that the relationship between JT and Vincent should be way more tense than what it is. But I’m kind of glad that it isn’t since VinCat is still a mess. If JT and Vincent were on the outs not only would not be able to get into Vincent’s head, I highly doubt we would get any JT screen time. I do feel as though JT is overcompensating, as he should be but at the same time, short of finding a cure for beasts, he’s really done more than enough for Vincent at this point. I think now that Vincent is out of the shadows JT should be too and moving on with his life. JT was the heart and soul of the episode and I’m glad things seem to be getting back to normal on that front.
Sam Landon – We all knew he was shady and I’m glad it didn’t take Team Beastie long to figure it out either. His plan was sheer genius and made me squeal like a pig with delight. They also gave us some heavy background for the Landons. I’m very pleased that they do indeed know what an archeologist does and elaborated on how and why he was able to coach JT from the bench.
Tess – Tess wasn’t out of character so, there’s that. Not much was really written for Tess this week. The character boiled down to a very limited supporting background character which is a shame but the story really didn’t call for what Tess is best at so I’ll let it slide. Bonus points that she got so much screen time with JT.
Vincent – It’s a shame that it took Tori dying for Vincent to be more likable or maybe that was the whole point of the character. Vincent is a really amazing friend to Cat. He pointed out all the things that if I did not know what Gabe had done, I would totally tell Cat. It’s even more encouraging that he is still protective while not being jealous. Part of me wishes he had not saved Gabe but he literally had to since Cat was there, which was the point of that scene.
VinCat – Wait, can I say no comment here? Would you be mad? No, I will go ahead and address it. As I said last week, I’m on board with Cat and Vincent being friends and learning to openly communicate without fear of saying or doing the wrong thing because that will build a strong foundation for whenever they get back together but come on, episode 16 (aka our hiatus) is right around the corner. They keep telling us VinCat will be back on track by then. That’s three episodes and four weeks away from now. I’m a fan of things happening organically and having credibility. So it pains me to say unless there is a significant time jump VinCat getting back together again won’t be believable for me. Vincent still has a long road of redemption before he can be anywhere near worthy of being with Cat again. Cat still needs a lot of work to do in regards to figuring who she is and what she wants and why she makes some of the terrible choices she does (cough, Gabe, cough). I think Vincent is showing way more growth than Cat at this point but she doesn’t nearly as much to make up for Vincent does. I think that once Vincent finds a place in the world and JT and Cat are not his only lifelines then and only then will Vincent be on equal footing with Cat and able to have a healthy relationship.
Grade: B-
Character of the Night
• Vincent wins this one hands down. I really appreciate that it seems that Vincent is growing as a person, has a handle on his beastly nature and truly wants Cat to be happy even if that means that he can't be with her. I love how Vincent is being a good friend. But honestly, it must be pretty damn annoying to have your ex's new relationship and all your shortcomings constantly rubbed in your face.
Best Character Interactions
• Vincent and JT
• JT and Tess
Favorite Moments
1. We open the episode with a shot of Sally (Cat’s blue Mustang). What? I have a thing for cars.
2. Vincent is still in big, fluffy, comfy robe
3. I believe Vincent was making his favorite sandwich
4. Cat’s flashbacks of Gabe
5. Team Beastie meeting minus Gabe at the Gentlemen’s Club.
6. Cat’s heart beat when talking about Gabe to Vincent.
7. The precinct’s new boss takes some of Tess’s chocolate.
Favorite Lines
1. Cat: That actually makes sense considering how the last one ended. No offense.
Vincent: None taken.
2. Tess: The good news is I saved our jobs.
3. Vincent: I like balloons.
4. Vincent: 87? I don’t think Barnes is trying to make octogenarian beasts.
5. JT: What? I watch a lot of CSI.
Favorite Scenes
1. JT gives Vincent a pep talk peppered with ‘Les Miserable’ references.
2. Cat and Vincent chat about Gabe
3. Gabe and Vincent have a chat about Cat
4. Cat and Dana talk about Sam
5. JT confesses to Tess he was the one who sent the flowers, balloons and chocolates.
6. Vincent breaks into Gabe’s apartment.
7. Vincent confronts Gabe about finding the serum in his apartment.
Burning Questions
1. Is the gem still safe?
2. When will we meet the guy who is actually pulling the strings?
3. Why are women always made to look the fool because they let the men in their lives pull the wool over their eyes?
4. Why is JT still living in the Gentlemen’s Club?
Theories
• The new boss of the 125th precinct is an avatar for Brad Kern (aka an unabashed misogynist)
• Gabe really is the bad guy that is pulling the strings at the highest level and he did all this to throw suspicion off of himself.
• Gabe is still a beast (he’s not even the slightest bit afraid of Vincent).
• Cat and Tess will get fired by the end of the season.
• Cat and Tess’s new boss is the big bad.
Repeated Elements
• JT + pop culture references.
• Women being blinded by love
• Couples being paired together
• Misdirection
Biggest Surprise of the Episode
The JTnT ship is out in the ocean with plenty of wind in its sails.
Theme
• Trust is like a mirror, you can fix it if it's broken, but you can still see the cracks in the reflection.
Grievances List
• Gabe’s picture shouldn’t have been up in that office for several reasons. The first reason being he was not a cop.
• I’m tired of all the so called “small gestures” when it comes to VinCat. I’m going to need a grand sweeping gesture pretty damn soon.
• What the hell is Vincent doing in the precinct let alone in an interrogation room?
• Shouldn’t the charge for the tickets to Mexico have specified that there were two of them?
• Nobody is wondering why the serum bottle is more than half empty?
• No one is asking any of the right questions, AGAIN!
WTF Moments
• Remember all of that hype for a ‘pregnant bride’? She was an unimportant background actor. SMH.
• Can no one have a happy ending on this show?
• When Sam points to Gabe’s picture while being interrogated.
A little help?
Who is the actor who plays the new commander of the 125th precinct? I know I have seen him in numerous other shows but his name alludes me.
Side Note: I forgot who asked last week but yes, the title was an Arrested Development reference. This week’s title reference is a purposefully misquoted line from William Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’.

Well, now it's your turn to sound off in the comments section below. I look forward to reading your thoughts.
PS: Don't forget to promote this and all positive Beauty and the Beast articles in all the social media you can. For instance be sure to click the like button, retweet this and +1 this article if you like it and appreciate this reviewer's hard work.
I love your articles!!! I loved the episode. I laughed out loud at most of it, Vincent was hilarious! I feel like we finally got a breath of fresh air. Please more Jennifer and Sherry!! I was wondering the same thing about Vincent being in the precinct, is he a cop now? I still think Gabe is the big bad guy. Hmmm..very interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe new commander does look familiar. Isn't he Quagmire from the Family Guy?:) When Vincent and Cat where talking/arguing over Gabe I got so caught up, gestures, facial epressions, I forgot they were acting. They argue like a real couple. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteNope, feel free to vent here. This is a safe zone to express your feelings. I will forever think Gabe is up to something. Thanks for stopping by. I agree Cat needs to be held accountable for things as well but she's such a mess right now that I just want her to pull her head out of rear end and exercise to some sound judgement for a change.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I laughed too! JT was really funny this week and Vincent's facial expressions showed he was 1000% done with all the drama but Cat kept dragging him back.
ReplyDeleteThat guy does look like a live action of Quagmire doesn't he? Giggity!
ReplyDeleteWell, hello to Sweden! Glad you guys get the show there. Yes, Gabe's actions have been highly questionable all season long and especially ever since 2x11: Held Hostage. The writers have been leaving bread crumbs for the observant and really hope they follow through with it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm being very forgiving with this part of the season because of the unique position the show is in. Sam knows about beasts and what they are capable of so he knows how to cheat the system as it were, I guess. I too would prefer for both Cat and Vincent to be apart and grow as individual a little longer but it is what it is and they are just no good away from each other so let's take the plunge and get those crazy kids back together.
ReplyDeleteWell, the show is aired here, but we are only at episode 5 of s2 this week. Luckily there are ways to watch the show on CWTV, so i don't have to wait....
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, even after i stopped watching I still come here so i can see if Batb has inproved or not. At first i really liked the idea of Cat and Gabe, i thought "Finally they will do something different and maybe can put things back on track, stupid me, Batb writers always choose the worst path possible.
ReplyDeleteLike I've been saying for weeks, i'm trying to stay out of the way, because bad publicity is the less thing Beauty and The Beasty needs right now, but if the show really gets canceled, I will write a really "beautiful" letter to Mr Kern, he pushed fans away, tried to create a new show...and the list goes on i guess that's why Charmed fans hate him so much.
The Gabe is very boring to me. Why is this being forced? As Oprah often said, "Doubt means don't!" The love triangle/quad is so unnecessary. The amnesia should've caused the break, so VinCat could work back to the middle. Tori should've been a mentee of Vincent, not a lover. The writers wasted about 6 episodes on shenanigans that made no sense. Beasties didn't need Tori to tell us that VinCat belongs together. This we know! Why do they act like Beasties have amnesia? I am only here for VinCat, as a couple, the core 4, VK, CC, JT and Tess. Gabe will always be a baddie. 213 felt like the good ole days, barring the g/c trail of hot mess. Loved JT in the episode, he really provides comfort and great advice. The new captain is a mega-douche, inappropriate yet funny. The woe is me Vincent needs to get his life because I like edgy Vincent with a heart that has been introduced in S2, not a sappy dude. He is more layered than that. sidebar - credit card statement has the grand total of charges, not the list of items purchased, that would only be on the receipt.
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks for the bit about the credit card statement, my AMEX is itemized but I request that specifically.
ReplyDeleteThanks, for stopping by. I am a Charmed fan and I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at first. I gave my thoughts on Brad Kern last week but we all know it was his decisions that led to the fall in ratings that and the utter lack of promotion.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to focus on the character of Vincent because he is the most broken and needs the most attention. I love that they gave Jay Ryan something meatier to sink his teeth into this season but some the of material is just awful and I love that he always does his best.
ReplyDeletethe commander is played by Brennan Brown also played FBI in person of interest, in the movie state of play.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, Lilith, great review! Gabe is still boring and he is still trying to have a relationship with a woman that is not emotionally available. Why would a man want to be put in that kind of situation? Cat is still coming off as wishy washy. One minute she wants Gabe the next she doesn't. Cat taking to Vincent, seriously talking to your ex about your new boyfriend? WTF moment! I was glad that she finally remembered some of the bad things that Gabe have done last season. That was short lived though! I was very frustrated that she decided to go ahead and be with Gabe. I did love all the bromance scenes. Very funny. Vincent saying that he likes balloon because he was trying to back his boy up. The look on V's face when he took a peek under Tess's desk. JT and Vincent was great in episode.
ReplyDeleteGreat review again! Agree with everyone's frustration with Cat - she finally remembered Gabe was evil but it lasted for about 30 seconds, then to watch her go groveling back - yuck! Some Valentine's special this was - let's see swapping saliva with Gabe or Flash Mob serenade from V - which would you want? Like the bromance coming back strong - JT what a hoot "Les Mis". Vincent, well he was so supportive and finally putting Cat's happiness first - this has been a long time coming. Now that She-Beast is gone, his humanity is coming back and his beast is receding. I guess that demonstration of loving someone so much that you let them go, is what the writers thought was Valentine romance but it fell way short when the episode ended with Cat pledging to be with Gabe and again with the saliva swap. Loved that JT & Tess are finally going somewhere but they didn't have enough lead in. As I have said before Brad's obsession with Gabe gives him way too much screen time and detracts from our Fab 4. I hope if Sherry & Jennifer are getting more involved that they will cut down on his screen time significantly. The show is so great when those 4 main characters have the opportunity to work together - what a great bunch of actors. Nothing against Sendhil but just can't connect with Gabe - I actually liked him better evil last year. Just can't get how he's so easily forgiven for his actions last year, yet Vincent is dumped on all the time. Well next week's promo doesn't really look like its dealing with romance - maybe spared from more PDA by Cat & Gabe for a week. Hope that he's dumped before the hiatus.
ReplyDeleteSo I was re-watching this episode and when Cat asked Gabe to get a warrant for the security footage of Dana's apartment, Gabe was very very resistant of the idea and, even though he was renewing his "passport" (which I still think is a lie), there shouldn't have been any reason at all for him to object to the idea unless he was there. I don't think he was setup at all. Gabe's a shady guy....
ReplyDeleteI love your insight for the episode. I thought the episode was great, and I think Catherine brought V to the precinct b/c he could help as a polygraph. They probably think Sam isn't aware of all of Vincent's abilities. I like your theories about Gabe--I believe he and Sam are conspiring together and that the whole bomb scenario was just to throw off suspicion. I'll have to watch the episode again to give a further analysis (which I will send to you through Twitter).
ReplyDeleteOh, in regards to your mystery guy (in case no one has answered your question), he is Brennan Brown. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1000502/?ref_=tt_cl_t8
Yes!!! Totally agree!! Why is V the only one who has to make amends?? Cat did terrible choices too! If I were V, I would be really disappointed with Cat's choice, Gabe was the one who tried to kill him, because of him he was abducted, brainwashed and practically because of him their relationship was over!! And now Cat decides to be with him????? Aghhhhhh I'm so frustrated, mad!!
ReplyDeleteThanks again Lilith for your honest and succinct review. There were lots of good things in this episode as well as some confusing ones. I have to say that I was a little disappointed that the "super aware that it is airing on Valentine's week" was about Cat justifying and basically starting her relationship with Gabe. I was expecting, because it was Sherri and Jennifer that it would be a grand gesture on Vincent's part to give Cat a romanctic Valentine wish, knowing that he still needs to make amends for some of his choices. It took Vincent 13 episodes to really discover who he wanted to be and Cat has had no time because she basically jumped into this relationship with Gabe. To me, at this point in the game, the time spent on Gabe and Cat is totally wasted. It will last maybe one more episode as 216 is just around the corner and I cannot imagine that 215 will be about Gabe and Cat. I also believe that the Cat/Gabe pairing is still affecting the ratings. We had started to rise but then after last week with the end scene of Cat telling Gabe she wants to be with him and the promo pictures on the Valentine episode of the two together, IMO turned some people off. This time would have been better spent answering some of your burning questions, that could also point Cat in the right direction to discovering who she really is. It is not like the writers' did not know that fans were so unhappy and against the Cat/Gabe pairing. We have been saying it since before the season even started. I love that JT/Vincent are back as bros. Now we need Tess's strong character to come back, Gabe to stop being the poster boy for the season, and the four to be back working together. And I think Vincent and Catherine both have to atone to each other for the choices they made. Bring on Season 3!
ReplyDeleteYes, Vincent's redemption will be at Cat's expense to some degree no doubt. I would much rather prefer to be focusing on the big bad than relationship drama at this point because Cat and Gabe are not end game so in the end who the hell really cares. I actually watched last season's Valentine day episode in the background as I wrote this review last night as oppose to watching it and live tweeting, LOL!
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting and answering my burning question. I was begging for some lightheartedness and finally got it and the bonus was that some it came from Vincent or should I say Jay Ryan's facial expressions while screen capping and gif making.
ReplyDeleteYes, agreed, every episode is choked full of highly questionable actions on Gabe's part.
ReplyDeleteI love evil!Gabe so much it's practically a fetish, LOL! This new Gabe is so boring and irritating. I loved the Fab 4 aka Team Beastie working together without Gabe this episode. As I said I tired of small gestures when it comes to VinCat, it's time to start making big grand plans to suck me back into their epic love story.
ReplyDeleteYes, I mentioned on the podcast that I knew him from Person of Interest. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of this episode as baby steps, so many great moments, the dialog was actually quotable and notable, the scenery was a nice change of pace. After last week's episode, I choose to focus on the good this week and we might be back to the negative next week, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI watch the original Beauty and the Beast and loved it. I try not to compare this one with the original but it's hard. They should not be apart period! I feel the writers are totally missing the point of the concept of BatB, if it is based on the original but revamped. Vincent could feel what Cat was feeling in the original. I miss that true connection in this series. Their love is not suppose to normal in any since of the word but yet I feel like I'm watch a soap opera or anther random series where you want two ppl together but there's nothing really special or unique. Just anther couple going thru normal couple things. Yeah he's a beast but it's not making the relationship any different then if he weren't a beast. I miss that from the original because in that series you could feel the difference in Cat's and Vincent's relationship. It had that quality where it was unique and unlike any other love story, which I feel this series is totally lacking ... Ok my rant about the series as a whole is done. :)
ReplyDeleteI liked this episode because Vincent is getting back to his old self. I still on the bench when it comes to Gabe. I want him to be good but on the other hand, he made a nice beast. I don't feel he was ever totally bad, just misunderstood and desperate to be normal again, that he lost his moral campus. I also think that's where is feelings for cat comes in. He's so grateful that she killed the "beast part" of him that he's confusing it with having feelings. Also I can understand Cat being with him because he's a rebound and has a history that is connected with Vincent. I think she see what she wants with Vincent but transferred it to Gabe. Gabe is the perfect rebound guy for her because of that. Still working on liking JTaT being a couple. I just don't really see it. I see more Gabe and Tess as couple. Hopefully they will grow on me. :)
I did that on Sunday after I watched 213. I too would rather focus on all that has been opened up this season: the gem, connection to Cat: how does Tori's family fit into all of this; how did Muirfield get into the whole beast thing, was it throughBob as he is a Reynolds and the burning question I have had through all of this is how does Vanessa fit in? And is Vincent and Cat's destiny only because he is a beast and the Reynolds family had the gem or is it a deeper connection like they were somehow programmed to be together? We could have a whole season just exploring the beast /Reynolds connection with Vincat together of course! So many questions! So many possibilities for good story lines!
ReplyDelete48 hrs later and my heart is still hurting ~ there were so many fun intriguing moments in this episode as you have rightly pointed out but I can't rejoice in them because I am in my WTF Catzone and want to slap her silly. That coupled with the excessive PDA from Globerine ugh ~ cuts like a knife and ruined this Valentine's Day episode for me. Whatever shortlived joyous expectation I had in Gabe being the Big Bad and getting his ass handed to him by Vincent (damn you misleading preview) and Cat's unexpected lucid moments of doubt in her new squeeze were over in the blink of an eye. My underlying problem as you also pointed out is how is Cat going to have a change of heart in this short span of 2 episodes before the hiatus? Is she that fickle? Poor Vincent's grand romantic gesture was being noble and self sacrificing sigh... I hope redemption next week refers to Cat because I'm tired of all the Vincent bashing when HE has been the victim and star of Season 2 so far.
ReplyDeleteYou know I have to be honest, as much as I hate the Cat Gabe angle I also feel as if the writers are working with what they have. If they were to grab some random guy off the streets and make him into Cats new boyfriend it would seem forced and unrealistic as well. If they were to make her play the strong independent single woman we wouldn't be able to see Vincent grow and develop as much as a person who has to learn to be Cats friend. Also, yes Gabe did try to kill Vincent and imprison Cat, but he did that as a beast and Cat views beast and the humanity of beasts as separate... And, if you have someone there consistently waiting for you, protecting you, being a shoulder to cry on, etc as you watch the love of your life continuously hurt you and keep going through battles to be with each other you might fall into the easier relationship that's right there waiting for you. That being said I still don't trust or like Gabe and fully hope/want him to turn out to be hiding things, but I do understand to an extent Cat trying things with him. He's never done anything while not a beast to hurt her and she's also running from her feelings for Vincent as she doesn't want to be hurt anymore!
ReplyDeleteOk edit - nevermind because I do remember now that Gabe made the conscious decision to kill Vincent and use Cat as bait... Also, how come he never even mourned or mentioned his ex??? He just got over and forgot her so easily... Lol I really don't like Gabe and think he's suspicious, but I do want to give Cat the benefit of the doubt!!
ReplyDeleteLilith, I laughed till I cried reading your review. You are the best. Especially these quotes made my day:
ReplyDelete"The new boss of the 125th precinct is an avatar for Brad Kern (aka an unabashed misogynist)"
The boss´ comment about the chick team is excused with that he knows it is not p.c., newsflash to the writers of the script: that alibi doesn´t make it more palatable.
"Trust is like a mirror, you can fix it if it's broken, but you can still see the cracks in the reflection."
This hilarious dig at Kern´s interview comment that love gets stronger if you break it is well-earned. I can´t believe Kern really meant that and that he still is allowed to carry the idea forward for 13 episodes.
Praise to Jay Ryan who carries this episode and this show with his amazing skills in portraying intelligence, strength, humor, patience and compassion.
We have a saying in Australia which goes like this. If it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck......it's a duck..........Gabe is up to no good. And Catherine must be nuts to even think about going out with him
ReplyDeleteBeasties!! Read this article and start promoting for our favorite show!! http://m.eonline.com/news/508762/save-one-show-see-which-shows-are-most-in-danger-and-nominate-one-now
ReplyDeleteNew guy is Brennan Brown and really nice. Yes you have seen him in a ton of stuff. Agree with all you had to say, really worried that we will not have VinCat back before hiatus and think that will be the nail in the coffin. So frustrating to keep getting teased & lead on by things like "VinCat shippers will have hope" and then realize we only have now 3 episodes left before break. Not seeing how they are going to make such a quick turn around.
ReplyDeleteI think there might be a time jump and flashback montage or some cheap shortcut like that. I was acutely aware of the tender situation a lot of Beasties are in so focused on the good of the episode.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I read Brad Kern interviews and wonder why he's allowed near our show. Glad you caught the reference.
ReplyDeleteI mentioned Tyler at the beginning of the season not sure if it was a review or on the podcast but I find that odd that he just flat lined and forgot about her.My initial theory about him helping Team Beastie was that was his way to honor her and then they made it painfully clear that he was falling for Cat so soon after...
ReplyDeleteAs long as we've known Cat, she has been hopping from guy to guy, so yes, she may be that fickle.
ReplyDeleteHonest review like always. Thank you, Lilith. I agreed with everything you said about Mr. Gillard’s directing, brilliantly and beautifully crafted. A delightful episode to watch even thought a little bit sad that it aired on the Valentine’s week! I love all the bromance scenes between JT & V. They made me laughed out loud and ached at the same time, especially at the last scene when V admitted to JT that he’s still in love with Cat…love her enough to let her go for someone who worthy for her love. Watching those scenes, we can see how strong writing can bring out the best of the talented actors. The characters are intelligent adult men, so intelligent dialogues should be a requirement in writing. Yes, the writers also brought back the old-Vincent in S1 after a long journey…from all beast as a total killing machine and inclining for the primal instinct by choosing the she-beast as partner. (BTW, I can see the purpose of adding the she-beast in S2, but I found that the writing was weak to convey the idea of a real relationship cannot be found just base on only the primal factor-sex, even beasts cannot live without love. I feel sorry for Amber who took the role as Tori.) I love that the writers widen the dimensions on the character of Vincent/BEAST this season. Some are good and some are awful, but viewers have to agree that Jay Ryan always delivered the best. His performances compensated all the deficiency in great writing. Sorry to say that Sendhll Ramamurthy didn’t do too well in delivery when he got all the opportunities of airing-time in the last few episodes. With a sinking heart, I weep for the character of Cat this season and am speechless. The writers failed to portrait the emotional turbulence of what’s going on inside Cat…the BEAUTY part is off. However, Kristin Kreuk, like Jay Ryan, is a true professional and did the best she can. Nevertheless, I started watching this show because of KK and will stick around until the end. Besides, it’s always been a delight just to watch KK on every inch of the screen, (didn’t mind at all the addition of JR next to her.) I am looking forward to see more interactions between JT & V, JT & T, Cat & T and longing for the return of VinCat. I believe we need all the great chemistry among these characters to happen before the executive decision made upon the renewal of Season 3! Doesn’t hurt to start praying now too!
ReplyDeleteGreat review - I was hoping for it. Good episode, except the inconsistency of the relationship with Gabe Cat. I hope something that justifies this part of the plot.
ReplyDeleteThe interaction of all the characters was very good, even I didn't have so much anger Cat - she and Vincent are trying to escape the feeling that unites them.
Jay Ryan was great, making me burst into tears. Vincent showed his human side is stronger than ever. Were beautiful scenes, in which Vincent expressed his feelings by Cat - shame she did not see.
The saddest. Vincent let the boat run between Cat and Gabe, and still supporting him stick with it. And apologized to Gabe, the raid on his apartment and others - OMG, GABE IS NOW THE STORY's GOOD BOY?
The fact is that more than half the season passed already and we saw little of VinCat (those looks, chemistry).
Do you think the relationship Cat and Gabe will be more intense, to the point of they going to bed?
Yes. Catherine is no saint either. She has hurt Vincent and is very self absorbed lately. She seems to think she can have Gabe & Vincent help her with everything. We were told the characters were going to find out who they are this season. Right now Catherine's a Wishy washy giggly flirty mess. Tess is her desperate friend who thinks she can't live without a man and who always pushes Cat to be the same. Vincent we've seen the most change from and exploration of who he is. This episode he was a witty, caring, superhuman who seemed the most in the know about who he is. What they showed us with Tori, I never got the feeling he romantically loved her. He never called her his girlfriend. He killed her father he "did the right thing" and took her under his wing. Don't know why they hint to us that he & Tory were some romantic couple but didn't ever really show us their true relationship. What I felt like I saw was Vincent always a little irritated with Tori.
ReplyDeleteOmg, I totattly agree with you I'm so amazed at your point of view it's like you're inside my head, I love Cat as well but, she has been flip floppy all season, we should have seen it coming, the beginning of the season she stooped thinking for herself when she kept going along with everything Gabe and Tess were telling her about V, although she was supposed
ReplyDeleteTo know him better than anyone, when she start using her own mind again then I suppose she'll have discovered who she is, she owes V big time, cause saint Gabe has rubbed off on her!!
Great review. My favorite parts of this episode were between JT and Vincent. Their expressions were priceless and their scenes together were the best. Vincent broke my heart and brought me to tears at the end when he told JT that he couldn't be with her and doesn't deserve her, that he loved her enough to let her be with someone who is worthy.
ReplyDeleteHe also killed Ray in ep 15 and the guy from Central Park with that medieval weapon in ep 16 so..... Do the writers think we beasties have amnesia??? I don't get it!
ReplyDeleteI am hoping that the worthy part is what gets Gabe in the end. I just can't continue to support his holier than thou attitude that he is the epitomy of goodness this season. Vincent, get your head out of your ass, and realize that, ya you made some poor choices too when you were a beast, like Gabe but you have saved way more people that he ever will and Cat needs to realize that too! Soon!
ReplyDeleteI here you Maureen, I'm not sure I trust Gabe either. Vincent has started to realize that he has made some poor choices and with JT's help has also realized all the good he has done too! Right now he loves Catherine enough to let her make the choice of deciding who is the better man. I think in episode 2x14 "Redemption", Catherine will start to see that the better man is Vincent.
ReplyDeleteFinally, thanks! JT and Tess haven´t any chemistry, sorry. To Tess fits Gabe. Writers didn´t see it? From arsonist episode it was obvious. That would be better plot than Cat + Gabe.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I also don't understand why Tess pushes Cat to Gabe - she knows how to VinCat was hurt by Gabe in the past. Tess always was against the relationship VinCat and I hate this on her.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with both of you as well. As I previously posted, Vincent had 13 episodes to come around and show who he really is. Cat has expected way too much from him since they found him and yes has been listening to Manager Tess in Gabe's corner, while Gabe has manipulated himself in her good graces to the point where she actually thinks he is better for her than Vincent. She never really gave the new Vincent a chance, she just kept trying to be his moral compass while allowing others to do whatever they want. You are so right she needs to finally think for herself and decide what she really wants, and that is to accept who Vincent finally is and be the strong character she was in SO1.
ReplyDeleteObrigado pela leitura. Eu entendo o que você escreveu e como você está sentindo. Eu também.
ReplyDeleteVinCat is the soul of the show and JT is the heart, Tess is the common sense. The Fab 5 is fine and dandy but no way should season characters have been practically erased for a "former" beast's redemption. I love Sendhil, I do but Gabe is a waste of space and a forced plot device and is there only for the sake of being a wedge between VinCat. Look how badly they had to knock Vincent down to make him shine.
ReplyDeleteI wanted better for Cat AND Tess, Gabe needs to ride off into the sunset alone.
ReplyDeleteI love the JTnT ship, and I don't think that Gabe and Cat should be together. However, I still think that Gabe is truly looking for redemption, and I think that he has changed. They are both good characters-to me at least-they just aren't that compatible together. Vincent was charming and sooo hot (as always)!
