#Save BATB – Talk Show Appearances – Get BATB on Wendy Williams

I know a talk show that is hip, popping, geared to our exact demo. It also has a large devoted audience as well as a lovable and outspoken host. I’m talking about The Wendy Williams Show. Did you know the show airs in over 52 countries around the world? Did you also know that Ms. Wendy is a sucker for an underdog? If we manage this, it would be a huge deal.

I'm not stopping there either, if successful, I plan on doing it all over again to get BATB on The Talk, The View and Kelly & Michael.

Well, the plan has been made and the date has been set! Join us? For more information on how to participate please visit my blog.

The Recap and Review

Title: Recipe for Disaster | Written By: Brad Kern & Wendy Straker Hauser | Directed By: Allan Kroeker

Synopsis: Cat and Vincent must work together to save J.T. when he gets kidnapped, while Tori attempts to intervene, with fatal consequences. Meanwhile, a stranger (guest star Tom Everett Scott) from FBI Agent Dana Landon's (guest star Elisabeth Röhm) past is rescued along with J.T., and might have some insight about Vincent’s beastly past.
======================================================================================================
My thoughts on this week’s writing team...

I thought Wendy Straker Hauser did a fine job in the last episode she wrote which was 2x07: Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? I found her to be a lovely addition to the staff and couldn’t wait to see what she did next. I’m just going to say it, Brad Kern brings every writing partner down a notch or twelve. He doesn’t understand the beauty of this show. I honestly don’t think he grasps the mythology of it and I’m fed up with the stupid gem. It makes no sense and Vincent is slowly but surely being turned into Clark Kent. I’m a writer and there are really only a few rules to a good story. Keep it simple and make things happened organically. There is nothing I hate more than the use of a McGuffin which what both Tori and the gem are point blank. Also, Brad Kern always manages to murder at least one character’s canon attributes and for some reason it seem that the character Tess gets the brunt of it.

This episode was a hot mess. I can see where things have been heavily edited out and I can only wonder what else has ended up on the cutting room floor. At least it seems as though Sherri and Jenny managed to edit out most of the stuff Brad had originally wanted, even if it was detrimental to the last few episodes and the continuity of the show overall from here on out.

My thoughts on this week’s directorial execution...

I feel like Allan Kroeker didn’t pull the best out of any of the actors at all. The acting all around was extremely off (perhaps because the written material wasn’t up to par). As for the directorial eye, there was nothing fancy, no interesting shots. He blended right in with the rest of new to Beauty and the Beast directors this season.. The lighting was muted, even during the daytime scenes, something I hate, if only because it makes screencapping an arduous process.
=======================================================================================================

Agent Landon – Well, she was very much on her way to becoming a villain, what with the illegal listening devices and unlawful search and seizure. Dana took seeing a beast very well. I’m not quite sure if she is out of the woods on being a villain just yet. I’m glad she found her husband so now she move on and have her happy ending. But of course not before inspiring VinCat to reconcile and see that their destined to be together. Also, her husband Sam is supposed to shed some light on beasts but he came across as pretty useless in this episode, what a shame to waste Tom Scott Everett in such a fashion. The whole situation is unbelievable and nonsensical, and probably unintentionally comedic that the dungeon scenes took me right out of the episode.

Cat – I almost just want to write ‘no comment’ and be done with it but I won’t. The episode got off to an amazing start. She was having fun with Tess by hosting a cooking a class. They were drinking and chatting like the gal pals that I missed dearly. Cat was in a good mood and smiling. Then Vincent calls and it is all downhill from there. I just don’t buy anything she’s selling at the current moment. From her reason for wanting to be with, Gabe to her trying to be friends with Vincent, right down to how she feels super connected to the gem and feels it’s her duty to unravel the mystery behind it. I feel like all the writers are doing is telling me how she feels, not showing, which is a big no-no for writers. In a word, I’m underwhelmed with Cat character development right now. She is making all of the wrong choices and is coming across as extremely illogical. How could her heart actually be telling her to be with Gabe? It goes right back to my problem with the trope that a woman needs a man to be happy. And please don’t get me started on how bad this show overall fails the Bechdel test (Google it). The misogyny is real strong this season and I have had about enough.

Gabe – Oh, my god, yes, please get the hell out of the precinct Gabe! I’m glad somebody finally remembered that Gabe is not actually a cop and that his stay and role at the precinct was to be a very limited one. Gabe is a lawyer, let him go back to his office and legal pursuits and leave the real detective work to Cat and Tess and maybe just maybe Tess can get some meaningful scenes with Cat like she used to. I love Sendhil Ramamurthy, I really do but the way they have been shoving his character Gabe's “goody-two-shoes” status down my throat has irritated me beyond belief. His pursuit of Cat is and forever will always be squicky and highly questionable. Cat accepting his advances makes her look crazy and desperate. He is the reason Vincent was captured. He wanted to kill Vincent to save himself. He killed the woman who loved him more than anything in his selfish pursuit of self-preservation. Does Cat not remember that Gabe kidnapped her, held her hostage and terrorized her in order to get to Vincent? And NO, it was NOT that long ago. It hasn't even been a year yet! Are you serious? Has Gabe redeemed himself? Sure. But his “infatuation” and now pursuit of a relationship with Cat almost completely overrules it, if not negates it because it makes it seem as if he was only doing it for Cat and not for himself.

JT – Poor JT! Can’t he have anything good happen to him ever? Just make JTnT official already so Tess can be awesome again and JT can have something good in his life. I guess it was his turned to get kidnapped. After all everyone on the show has to be two things at least once on this show, a stalker and a kidnap victim. Loved JT at his party celebrating. We haven’t seen JT smile in such a long time. I find it odd that he still has his job after stealing the blood. Sure he didn't get arrested but surely there must have been an internal report and official reprimand. That’s serious stuff and it doesn't just go away. I have a big problem when shows don’t consider the consequences of characters actions, I’m nit picky that way. But nonetheless I was bummed he didn't actually win. It was a nice reminder that JT and Professor Forbes is a certified genius, sometimes his actions make me forget that. It was nice to see that Austin was given a chance to convey a range of emotions for a change. Usually he’s either given comedic lines, pep talk lines or exposition to catch us, the audience up on what we should know. What I didn't like was his core interactions were very isolated. JT is the heart (and brains) of the group and his distinctive relationships with all of the characters just that ‘j’e ne sais quoi’ to the group chemistry. Honestly, JT has been very isolated all season long because Vincent lives on that houseboat. Time for Vincent to move back into the Gentlemen’s Club, obviously. JT and Vincent’s relationship is one of the best things about the show, time to capitalize on it.

Tess – I just can't with the way Tess was written in this episode. I really hate that Tess sole purpose this season has been to pretty much root mindlessly for Gabe to get with Cat and to encourage Cat to give Gabe a chance. Nina manages to knock it out of the park every single time she’s given out or character crap to work with and love her for it but someone (cough, Sherri and Jenny) really needs to stop letting the character of Tess be murdered. Tess is a smart, sassy, tough independent lady from New York. Sure she’s gets lonely but women don't have to come across as desperate just because they don't have a man. A man is not the sole defining factor in woman’s life or her only option of being happy. I just hate when misogynistic, patriarchal B.S. comes rolling off the screen from my favorite show, that once upon a time had a deep, strong messages of girl power.

Tori – Ding dong the wicked witch that dared come between our precious Vincat is dead; or so most of my Twitter timeline rejoiced. But not I, I really liked the idea of a she-beast. I loved the actress who played Tori. I just hated all the bumbling missteps they took with this character. The more I think about her relationship with Vincent, the more it makes my skin crawl that the writers actually went there. Tori is super young, like between the ages of 18-22 apparently. She was locked in a gilded cage by basically what boils down to an emotionally abusive and overly protective father. She had no friends. She didn’t even have a mother to love her. She was naïve to the ways of the world because of all the aforementioned reasons I just listed. She was born a beast and didn’t have a clue.

Along comes Team Beastie and turns her life upside down. Not only does Vincent kill her father, in the most brutal fashion (by literally ripping his heart out) but he does so directly in front of her and that trauma triggers her dormant beast to come to the surface. Lost, alone, frightened and not able to fully grasp what is happening to her, she tries to commit suicide. Then she finds herself a target for being something she had no control over. She struggled with what she was and only tinkered briefly with the power that she had and then decided she wanted to pretend she was normal. Did I mention Tori also “fell in love” with the man that murdered her father for no other reason than his name was on a list and Vincent wanted his life back so he was on a mission no matter the cost to anyone else?

It would have been awesome if they wrote her as a kid sister to Cat who could shed light on beastly things that Vincent couldn’t explain. Cat could have trained her. Maybe let Gabe mentor her? Tori and Vincent could have the muscle of the group and been a surrogate daughter to Vincent. Tori could have helped JT understand beasts and he could have explained just how she was born a beast, perhaps? They should have made her a part of Team Beasties instead of some awful wedge issue/love interest. The saddest thing about Tori is she died friendless and unloved.

I just can’t get behind the hating on Tori, sorry. I really hate having characters die for no reason other than to create man-pain. No one else is going to be really affected by her death. Hell, in this episode Vincent didn’t really seem all that broken up to me, if I’m going to be honest.

Vincent – Two huge bombs got dropped on Vincent this week. Tori’s death and JT telling him the truth about how he was chosen to become a beast. He took everything pretty well, all things consider. I think Vincent needs a cathartic breakdown at this point just as much as Cat. His life too, has been one thing after the next for the last year and a half. I think he needs to reconnect with his family (cough, bring back his nephew, cough), maybe even begin making his way back to becoming a doctor (that’s where he always has found his solace in the past) and some good quality time with his best friend JT. Vincent has seemed to hard, cold and distant this whole season that I almost forget at times that I’m supposed to be rooting for him. With these latest developments hopefully, the metamorphosis of Vincent’s next life stage will compel me (and Cat) to fall in love with him all over again. Fingers crossed!

VinCat – Cat gave Vincent the ‘let’s be friends’ speech and I almost fell out of my chair. She even offered up relationship advice. I think a good strong friendship along with open communication is strong solid foundation to build a relationship, so I see where this need is coming from. But they are still forcing the Cat and Gabe issue despite Cat openly admitting that she needs to find herself as well as stop bouncing from man to man. She needs to fix herself before getting together with anyone. Vincent is in a vulnerable place (I guess). He realized he rushed into things with Tori and it might have had a lot to do with her beastly wiles (did I mention what a cop out that was?). He treated Tori like crap the whole time they were together and he has some odd behaviors while being with Cat. Vincent, too, needs some time alone to work on himself and definitely get back in touch with his humanity before we as an audience can even root for him to start wooing her away from Gabe (just my two cents).

Final Grade : C- (That’s me being EXTREMELY generous)

Reason: When an episode is entitled ‘Recipe for Disaster’ you should not live up to that expectation. You should go out of your way to make it the best damn episode your fans could possibly imagine. This truly was a recipe for disaster indeed. This episode was obviously and painfully heavily edited to wipe away the relationship the writers had written for Tori and Vincent to quell some of the fandom backlash, all the while still showcasing the creepy crawly relationship between Cat and Gabe. This makes Tori’s death even more pathetic and sad. Hey writers, you do remember how you built Tori up as a socialite and how she was dating ‘the war hero’? There should be consequences to this situation. Somebody should miss her.

This was an awkwardly paced episode and super rushed along. Tori’s death scene made me laugh and I got secondhand embarrassment from watching it, everything from the way it was written to the way it was acted was a complete joke to me. Tess was once again out of character in an extreme fashion. Tess is tall, beautiful, with a no-nonsense attitude and has an easy breezy sense of fashion that screams low maintenance . She would be prime real estate in the NYC dating world (trust me, I live there, I know these things).

Cat still wanting to be with Gabe and not going after Vincent to comfort him, even as just a friend smacked me in the face with a sense of falsehood. But I know it was plot shortcut so that JT and Vincent could get a little bro time confessional going. Even that scene just didn’t cut it for me. Everything at this point just feels off and doesn’t ring true for me. Hopefully next week will be amazing and I can give it an A+ ( it’s long overdue). Sorry this review turned into a rant but expect so much more from this show and they just haven’t been giving it to me on a consistent basis.

Awards

Character of the Night

I’ll go with JT because he was the best thing about this episode, even the use of the character was poorly executed.

Best Character Interactions

JT and Vincent. They just have a bromance for the ages and Austin and Jay have chemistry that won’t quit. It’s a winning comboniation that I can’t get enough of.

Favorite Moments

1. The return of JT's leather jacket.
2. Gabe spitting out the Cat's canapés
3. Vincent in a big, fluffy, comfy robe.

Favorite Lines

1. Vincent: Cooking? Really?
2. Tess: You are like catnip for every single guy, including chef Raymond.
3. Vincent: You are not moving in here.
4. Cat: I’m not going to get into a relationship so soon.
5. Tess: I’m just saying use or lose it.

Favorite Scenes

1. Cat and Tess attending a cooking class.
2. JT's party
3. Tess apologizes to Agent Landon
4. Dana and Sam are reunited
5. JT and Vincent chatting about life saving, how he became a beast and Tori
6. Cat saves Vincent, AGAIN!

Burning Questions

1. How much time has passed since the last episode?
2. Was it just me or was the character of Sam pretty worthless?
3. Are they going to have a funeral for Tori?
4. They’ve got the gem and it’s buried. Now what?
5. Sam is an archeologist, how could be aide JT who has a Ph.D. in biochemistry?

Theories

• Brad Kern is biggest Sendhil Rammurthy to ever live. It is the only plausible explanation to continue to have the Cat and Gabe relationship shoved down our throats so forcibly.

Repeated Elements

• Relationship advice being given.

• People’s eyes being opened to the truth.

Theme

• Telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

Grievances List

• The total waste of Tom Scott Everett.

• The total waste of Colm Feore, he should have been the big bad, but no he died as cover for the big bad. Shaking my head at the decisions being made about the use of big get guest stars.

• No one is questioning how the gem is actually works. Yes, it takes away beast powers but how is it suppressing certain aspects of genetic coding? Very akin to the whole flat lining thing where everyone accepts it as fact and doesn’t question the validity. Paging Professor Forbes…

• What the hell happened to the character of Tess in this episode? She was clingy, desperate, and needy and didn’t even crack wise once. She seemed so pathetic. Tess from season 1 was so kick ass and ballsy, bring that back ASAP!

• This is what they call a JT centric episode? Really? Are you sure?

• Agent Landon being able to have her happy ending so soon. There better be more to this story.

• The return of the over usage of the word 'beasts'.

• O-S-H-A, everyone in the know calls it Osha. I’m not even sure OSHA handles labs, just workplace safety at a base level.

WTF Moments

• Tori died by being bled dry? Vincent didn’t even try to save her after her protests? Vincent could have super zoomed away to a hospital instead of letting her talk.

•Vincent keeping Tori in the dark about the hunt for the gem.

• The true nature of Tori and Vincent’s relationship being exposed.

Side Notes: Just because I criticize doesn't mean I don't like the show. I'm actually still very much in love with the show. Just a little disappointed and frustrated with the network and quite a few of the choices being made/forced and how that has affected the writers room because they want to give us a happy ending but the timetable isn't exactly ideal or clear. I see the stress in the writing and it ticks me off, so I point it out.

  1. I like your review, and I am so glad someone finallly said WTF to the mess that is Gabe/Catherine, I get just about everything else they are doing this season and I like it-except that. Gabe is the reason V was captured, how in the world does she get past that.. I can't. I like your take on what could have been with Tori, she was under utilized and i can only hope that her death will be some kind of catalyst for V and his humanity at least then she would have a purpose. That being said I still liked the episode and I thought Jay Ryan did an amazing job with the emotional range V had to go through in this episode, I saw the old V and I liked what I saw. As for the Bromance there needs to be way more of that too. I miss Jt and V more than Vincat right now.

  2. Lu, I was beginning to worry about you, seriously! Glad to have you back.

I'm just in such a foul mood about how the show is being treated, how Brad Kern was forced on Sherri and Jenny and how his bad choices can practically tied to the low ratings. His choices have practically held the writers room hostage by forcing the to make the most of his disregard for the show. You can judge for yourself just by comparing the writers he was paired with solo efforts as well his solo effort at writing an episode.
I'm going to need Sherri and Jenny to step up to the plate and course correct ASAP!

  3. Is anyone else suspicious of Sam? He certainly didn't seem like someone who'd been held captive for 5 or 6 years. And he's an archaeologist! Maybe he's the one behind this whole thing and he was "playing" captive to keep JT in line. I'm definitely thinking we haven't seen the last of him. ( And he is too good an actor for such a small little guest role. lol)

  4. Thanks! I'm glad you liked this episode and the way the season is going. All I see is rushed material that could have so much more amazing and detail oriented had they not been forced to break up VinCat in such an inorganic manner. Yes, Tori's purpose will no doubt be to restore Vincent's humanity and make him want to be a better person and to let others in and to let others help him. But what I'm not looking forward to is jealous!Vincent and Gabe putting his hands all over Cat when she should be off bettering herself and not concerning herself with any romantic relationships at all.

  5. I agree with any single word , stroke , point. I have already pointed out how this season is sexist and offensive to women . Enough is enough.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yep, every guest star gets the side eye from me. Everyone is a suspect, LOL. Sam is supposed to play a bigger role in revealing something about beasts. Agent Landon has two more episodes I believe, so "there's time" for that.

  7. Oh, thank goodness, I was beginning to think I imagined all these offenses. No one is really talking about it and that's a shame. It was a high selling point for me in season 1 that 'girl power; was a strong, recurring theme.

  8. sometimes i m begining to think why i began to watch #batb in the first place.
gabe in season 2 is a total waste if u ask me .he is just there for making cats police job easy and make out with cat.jt was being used less in this season .if u know fans love a certain char writers tend to give extra time for that (felicity ,roy in arrow)but not in #batb .they reduced jt scenes wth ??

  9. I feel the Gabe and Catherine thing has become absurd now.People keep forgetting he is the one that caused Vincent to be caught.I did love most of the episode, but agree with you about Tess as well.Where is that great detective from last year?.I want the old characters back.It is ok to have Vincent faster paced, etc, but bring back the genuine love between Vincat. The fans are getting frustrated. We all love the show so much and want a season 3 bad!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I agree.Mr Kern has messed up a lot of the episodes with his so called idea.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I only want season 3 at this point if Brad Kern is axed, if I'm going to be totally honest.

  12. He ruined Charmed by trying to make it the 'Phoebe' show so he has a bad track record with playing favorites. Again when he completely took over he ruined the long established dynamic of what the show was about.

  13. People don't care or are getting used to . The fact that we are watching a Tv show , where everything is unreal and fictional , probably aids in the "I don't care " process . Sad.

  14. Hi Lilith. A great review. All the strange twists and arcs taken down and analyzed. I especially liked your comment "When an episode is entitled ‘Recipe for Disaster’ you should not live up to that expectation. You should go out of your way to make it the best damn episode your fans could possibly imagine." I am sure something like that was running through all our minds but you put it so well.

Thank you for addressing the sexist issue. The cooking scene was cringeworthy in that aspect.
Cath has complained about wasting 2 years on Vincent. But she has conveniently forgotten how much pain and angst Gabe caused her during that time. She is so inflated and smug with Gabe constantly praising her for saving him that she has lost all power of independent thought. A great pity that the writers now for many episodes have made her to sound like a parrot. I miss the strong woman perspective they promised us in the beginning. Being strong isn´t just physical there something called mental strength too you know!
And what about "they got to earn their love"? I haven´t seen anything even close to that description. Now we have 12 episodes about "how to fall out of love due to violence and deception". However sad and difficult it is a non-event and cannot keep our interest for long.
Jay Ryan is amazing, acting with both strength and subtlety. We have learned during these 2 years that that is what he does and he has given us a great gift with his ability and his charisma.

  15. Thank you! Everything you said is dead on! The writers have managed to ruin a classic love story. I was sick to my stomach the whole episode. The Tori thing went way too far. I hope that the writers read your article. They need a major over haul.

  16. OMG. What a great review. The writers and CW should read it because u put there the words of so many of us, frustrated BATB fans, sigh. When I read about the new writer in the summer, Brad , I didn't think much about it , but OMG, he has killed my show and I am so mad. Clearly Gabe was dead last season but Brad brought him back and transformed him in Mr. Nice Man, giving him the most screen time each week. We had to support Gabe episode after episode while JT and Tess screen time was less each week. We always loved them. And I am not even going to get into what he did to VinCat !! As u said " they have been shoving his character Gabe's “goody-two-shoes” status down my throat has irritated me beyond belief. " . OMG , Gabe, just go away , and I don't mean to be rude , but please take Brad with you. Yesterday last scene of Cat holding Gabe's hand made me nauseous. No sure how much more I can take. Thanks for the review, u r the best.

  19. Excellent review and thank you for loving the show as much as we do. Parts of this episode were cringeworthy and yes most of it has to do with Gabe or Catherine/Gabe. It isn't only what he did last season, he hasn't been a peach this season either. He is almost perverted in his relentless yet unemotional pursuit. The smiles and copious lies, the last to arrive but claim to be a hero.

They don't seem to understand that we crave the fairy tale, the romance, the love we saw between Vincent and Catherine, the Beauty and the Beast story. It was beyond epic, it is a rare gift that we as viewers were lucky enough to be a part of. It was so extraordinary to hold your breathwaiting for a look to pass between them, the anticipation of a touch, or the throbbing of a kiss.

You really have given some insight to the mindset of the show runner. I have been complaining since episode 5 about the sexist and paternal scripts. Now you have added more to my complaint with "misogynist" It truly is. And now that you have shown me about his need to "play favorite" and after reading his interviews about the reason Catherine should be with Gabe "because he is handsome and wealthy" makes more sense now.

Thankfully, no matter how bad the material is, we have Jay Ryan. I will always be thankful for him bringing Vincent to life. I am grateful for his ability to overwhelm my heart with his portrayal. For long looks and slight smiles and his great courage that comes through the screen. For his stillness that is so beautiful. The dip of his head, the glances, the direct look he gives into the camera. All of that is forever. So, I put up with ridiculous triangles that are a requirement of the network and I put up with slimy characters being called noble, and the erratic and psychotic Catherine. All because there is one who is true to his portrayal and his character. I am truly grateful.

  20. So true what you said about Jay...he is an amazing actor and was the heart and soul of season 1. Even when they ripped his part apart he still came through with real professionalism. I am annoyed with the hater on twitter who constantly put him down

  21. Ditto to everything you said.. well spoken....Gabe destroyed the very fabric of this fairytale show....

  22. I agree with the WTF relationship between Gabe/Catherine but I can also see she need to test the water before she goes back to Vincent. Vincent has now admitted he choose the wrong path and the looks between Cat/Vincent were great and so where we are all wanting this to go. This is finally starting to go back to Vincat a lot of beasties can see this, I am super excited about jealous Vincent next week.

  23. Pretty much agree with your review. This episode was a mess. Made no sense why they were hugging JT at the beginning and then throwing his new job into it so fast seemed crazy.
I also don't get Tori/Vincent relationship. This time he came across that he was tired of Tori and felt like a caregiver to her. Okay. In a romantic relationship with that kid? I know the romance was edited out but think they did a terrible job of explaining that relationship. Vincent's crying at Tori's death and then Tori telling him he belonged with Catherine just made no sense to me. Then Vincent tells Catherine he should have chose her after Tori dies and his tears. 2nd choice again. Too late and not accepted.

I also hate Tess's being so desperate lately. Come on a woman cop can make it without a man & sex. I also hate how she is pushing Catherine to be the same and with Gabe too. Sex with another doesn't cure heart break. These 2 seemed so immature during their cooking time talk. They are not the independent woman this shows bio leads you to believe.

I like Gabe's character but him now leaving confuses me too. He said he wants to be done with beast stuff but is in with Catherine who's gotta find out who she is my continuing to work with Vincent on uncovering what her ancestors did with beasts. What? These 2 aren't compatible. I kinda wanted Catherine to be done with Beasts too after this episode and head off on her own though.

Vincent is cold and all over the place this season. His storylines are short lived episode by episode and I'm really starting to not like him. There is so much the writers could have done with his character but haven't. I want to know where his family is. He came out & is in the paper and no family tries to find him? Where is his nephew?

I like this show too and want a season 3. I just want new writers who makes this show go back to its bio about an independent woman who loves a Beast and trying to make that relationship work. Each season throwing in a redhead other woman and making Catherine second choice isn't good direction for this show. Nor is having every character be kidnapped. Has Tess been kidnapped yet? Not sure.

Next episode previews frustrate me. Catherine about to have sex with Gabe and Vincent goes beastly with jealousy and attacks Gabe? This isn't the romantic Valentine's Day episode Kern promised fans is it. How is that romantic? Cat not ready to forgive Vincent and she shouldn't be ready for a relationship with Gabe either. Am I watching Gossip Girls/Vampire Diaries when I watch this show? Sick of this high school crap with 30 year old characters.

    Okay my rant is over.

  24. Great, review Lilith you just keep on keeping it real, I'm appalled the way they have taken two very strong women and turned them into two needy flighty helpless females only living to have their toes curled, you made me have and aha moment, I was a big fan of charmed I forgot Kern turned it into the phoebe show playing favorites and here we go again now this is the Gabe show God I'm so over him already, if he doesn't turn out to be a baddie again I'm really worried I'm going to be throwing things at my Tv, Thanks again for the hard work you put in for this once awesome show, I sure hope it can become that again:)

  25. I know BATB can get it together, we just have to get past this re-tweaked and heavily edited hot mess Brad Kern forced on everyone. The writer in me just can't take these clique tropes, I demand better and we Beasties deserve better from The CW, they should get a season 3 simply because they forced Brad Kern on Sherri and Jenny for whatever bizarre reason.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I was so worried everybody was going to think I was crazy for expressing the thoughts that have been building over this season. I'm constantly left scratching my head over choices. I'm just thankful we have a talented cast that can make the most out of it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Catherine needs to be alone. She needs to find herself. She needs to go back to being a self-sufficient, independent woman before reattaching herself to Vincent. Only two strong people who have separate identities can make a good strong foundation for a mature and lasting relationship, or at least where I come from. No more shortcuts, Cat and Vincent need to fix themselves before getting back together otherwise there will be even more contrived drama if we get a next season.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jay loves his job but it seems to me he isn't satisfied with the material either. I love him dearly for making the most of it though and a lot of it can be rectified with him and JT spending more time together which was promised so things are looking up.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm just glad others feel this way. I try my very best to positive especially since our show is in awkward position and the fandom is under so much stress. But if no one says anything it will never get better. If we get a season 3 and Gabe is still around his screen time needs to go WAY down and we need to flesh out Tess and JT and give Vincent some roots and Cat needs to have her PTSD resolved once and for all, along with figuring out why she constantly jumps from guy to guy. They need to start addressing core issues and really give the characters some more development and personal growth.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks. The problem is not enough Sherri and Jenny and for the life of me I can't figure out why. This show is their baby and the baby is in the hospital, time to visit and bring flowers.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jay is wonderful and I kind of mentioned this in another comment but he seems dissatisfied with the material. Remember he is married and has a daughter and I'm sure he's noticing the not so cool themes I've presented in this review. It's nice to have a character that can explore his dark side but at the same time it must be awkward when things go too far (aka physically hurting a woman and coming across as a little skeevy by dating and the discarding a young woman, whose father you happened to kill in front of her).

  32. I said the same thing about Tori as you - she should have been made a little sister type - her character could have had so much potential but no they had to make her some 'love interest' that was frustrating to watch. Now they are doing it with Gabe & Catherine? There is a very rude phrase for that kind of thing. Please just stop. I too, am sick to death of having Gabe shoved down my throat as I know a lot of fans are (except those who ship Gaberine & for the life of me I have no idea why - the idea makes me cringe). I can only hope that Gabe turns evil or just disappears - I would be floored if there was ever an episode that Gabe was not in it - like they did with Tess and JT. For the most part I did enjoy this episode - the ruining factor was Catherine taking Gabe's hand near the end and saying she wanted to be with him(cringe). I love Tess, I love JT and I hope to see a lot more of them and putting the two of them together is a cuteness factor of 10+. Sam and Dana reuniting left me in tears. Tori's death - the blood draining thing was so fake looking but what ever the scene itself to me was quite touching. When Tori died and Vincent had his hand on her head, my heart broke for her because to me she looked like a little child and I knew what they (the writers) had done to her character was a travesty. My final thought - GABE needs to go. :D

  33. Well said!!! I agree with you, last night episode was a total disappointment for me. To many WTF moment and not in a good way. I hope the writers fix all the characters soon. Awesome review!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Love your honest review. Totally agree with you on the writing which is "softly" (just to be nice)) killing the characters that we fell in love with in the first place. At less the Vincnet & JT bromance is back in this episode, revitalize some of the amazing inter-chemistry among two of the main characters. I love this show. I love watching the performances from Vin, Cat, JT and Tess! I am still hoping to see some great writings yet to come. Don't waste the talent of the cast!

  35. Well Said Monique :)

  36. I too can see where people who adore this episode are coming from as well. I'm glad others found it an excellent episode. I just have sour taste in my mouth about how things are being handled and how they a spilling into the show.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It can be salvaged but the audience is going to have to swallow a lot but I think episode 16-22 will be well worth it as the writers, cast and crew surely know at this point the fate of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yep I think this is my biggest issue with the weak writing and forcing a newcomer into a star player position is that it throws everything off. They had to knock Vincent down a few pegs to make Gabe shine and Jay just deserves so much better than that.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yorn, you were the Beastie I was worried most about upsetting. I have high hopes things are going to be better, we only have Gabe left as an obstacle, which should be rectified very shortly.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Tori's death scene felt like Vincent didn't try hard enough because that was the easiest solution for him and Cat to be together. Brad Kern wrote and had it been anyone else, I would have not had that thought cross my mind ever. Brad Kern makes me so damn grumpy.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I know I saw this tweet and thought who the hell is even running the writers account and one name came to mind since he;s not man enough to have his twitter to deal with the mess he made: Brad Kern, though I doubt I'm right, just how I feel.

    ReplyDelete
  42. YES! That was the last drop I needed for my cup to run over. I guess we can add this Tweet to another one of last night's "WTF Moments."

  43. I am swampped at work and it might be my saving grace for how BATB is going because I am too tired to over analyze ...but I really miss you and I will try to be back soon!
A theory inspired by The Usual Suspects...
Do you think Sam is the collector and he's faking it! May be he found treasures with enough money to get his side project going and see how he was correcting JT on the seurum may be he was there because he has seen it with other scientist and he builds a rapport with the scientist they kidnap so they open up to him. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  44. God, its like you went into my head and took out my thoughts! Finally someone is coming out and saying what some of us have been scared to say for months, or not scared in my case, and that is the annihilation of this show, piece by piece. It is time someone stood up and said what is really wrong with this show this year, and to stop trying to fob it off on the fact that the show was on Monday night. We had an average of 1.7 million viewers per episode last year and this year we have had an average of 700,000 less than half. If Monday night was a bad tv night then Sleepy Hollow or Blacklist would not be on those nights. The showrunner took a beautiful love story and 4 strong characters, Cat, Vincent, Tess and JT and totally destroyed each one of their characters; except the pretty boy Gabe. People keep telling fans to stop saying anything bad because that is why we are in the dire straights we are in but the bottom line is we are in dire straights because the show has been devastated and the characters along with it. The love did not need to be torn apart to be built up again to something stronger! It was strong! It was Epic Love and now how are we ever going to believable get back that. People keep saying stop looking at it episode to episode it is a whole season arc, but each episode has been this destruction of all we loved in season 1. The shows that survive from season to season are the ones that DO NOT make extreme changes from one season to the next.
The really sad thing now is that we have to endure the ridiculous story line being presented to us right now with Gabe and Cat when all along we were told the season was about discovering who each one is. Now the writers are finally listening to what the fans have been saying since 202 which is when people started to really stand up and say whoa what is going on here or WTF! Because we are being forced into this iatus due to the dismal, lower than any show on tv, the writers are compromising any integrity to try and give fans what they want; VINCAT so Cat finding herself is in Gabe's arms which is creepy beyond creepy to the quick journey back to being together. I want VINCAT back together but it will be rushed and forced and each episode will be polar opposites; we will have Gabe/Cat for half and Vincent/Cat for other half. The ratings improved a bit this episode but judging by the promos and people;s comments, what will next week bring. We are suppose to get a significant VinCat moment but people think the Valentine episode will be about Cat/Gabe and honestly we haven't really been given any reason to have faith in anything from the writers, even the ones we thought we could trust. Thank you Lilith for putting yourself out there for the many, many fans who have been afraid to really express their disappointment in a show that had and still has so much potential. Sorry for the rant! Didn't mean to write so much but finally I feel someone is really listening to us and respecting us for being honest and finally someone is seeing the real truth here and making who is responsible accountable. I tell my students at school all the time, it is okay to make a mistake, but you have to take responsibility and be accountable for it, lea rn from it and FIX IT!

  45. Great review;I didn't catch the brokenness of the show but I will rewatch it with your lens. I couldn't agree more re the character of Cat - all her decisions and actions are so erratic. I was so happy last week that she recognized that she wasn't "resolved" and needed time to find herself. While the writers may argue that there was a lapse in time so this was weeks later but there was nothing to suggest this, so when she opts to take Gabe's hand and tell him she wants to be with him - that was the biggest WFT moment this year! As you said, she has amnesia regarding darling Gabe - so does Tess - both women are very disappointing this year by simpering after him. They were independent, tough and take no prisoners - they wouldn't have trusted him no matter what after what happened in season 1. So while I could have beared Cat being with someone else (for a while) its the Gabe - make me puke factor that I cannot stand. Perhaps Sendhil has pics on BK, as his character has done nothing but ruin the Fab 4 - takes scene and interaction time from Tess, JT and their friendship with Cat & Vincent and they seem determined to now how her "involved intimately" with him, so not looking forward to next week with them making all kinds of kissy faces - only wish that when Vincent has he beast up moment, that he finishes Gabe off - but that's just a dream...

    ReplyDelete
  46. I was surprised at the way they were depicting Catherine recently. She got into a bar fight with a harmless drunk and abused a woman who tried to defend him. She then turned on a federal judge. I know everyone loves it when Cat Kicks Butt but abusing innocent people seems to be against her constantly repeated mantra about "innocent lives" She blames Vincent for covering up for him but then covers up for the junior bad guy (Patrick) she just met five minutes before. She can't have it both ways. She is being written as psychotic. And Tess being so desperate. Did she forget that she does have a guy interested in her. JT spent a hated holiday with her and tried to text her over and over. I know she has forgotten JT in the past while investigating cases but to forget an entire day alone with him? That is a little obnoxious. He may not be the man of her dreams to curl her toes but just to forget him? So my question, Lilith do you think that the writers do not read the previous scripts to keep cohesion? Do they just not care about details of the story line? What could the problem be? Laziness or carelessness.

  47. Hear - Hear! from your lips to Sherry & Jennifer's ears and writing pens...

  48. More than welcome. I never thought the Beasties would ever be THAT fandom and for the most part we aren't. But tensions are so high and so many things at stake that a lot feel the right thing to do is nod and smile and be polite and hope for the best. But I just couldn't keep quiet this week. Some many little things that I've noticed on the actors and writers twitter accounts make feel their hands are tied and are towing the company line. I love this show and I'm fan of every single actor. Most reviewers are just critics who got stuck with the show and don't really have a rapport with the diehard fans who would do anything for this show. So sometimes, I think it's my responsibility to represent the other side of the fandom who have worries and doubts.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Vincent is finally back on the right track but I still think it was pretty rotten of the writers to write as though it was all Tori's fault. Like she lured him to the dark side and that he couldn't control his animal instincts. Typical patriarchal misogynistic bs. If you watched Charmed you know that it is Brad Kern's MO and I just can't believe how destroyed the character of Vincent is, will be tainted for quite some time and his road to redemption in my eyes will be a long one. But yeah for screen time for Vincent because Jay deserved for his character to be highlighted this season, just not in the way I had hoped.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Love that theory, will bounce it off Kristen when we record tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  51. After my long rant, I should have said how awesome and amaxing Jay and Kristin have been this season. I can't say too much about Austin and Nina as they have been almost non-existent this year, though I really appreciate Austin and his social media presences. Jay and Kristin have done an amazing job at acting this season. I sense that, with all the cast from last year, they have not been very happy as we have heard so little from them when last year we heard so much and they were so intertwined with the fans. And I do still love the show BATB and always will; just want my characters and love story back and the four working together and front and center; Vincent, Cat, Jt, Tess

  52. The writers account has been super sketchy lately, so many tweets have mysteriously vanished on what I based earlier theories off and has me looking crazy. But that's OK, I'm screencapping them all from here on out.

    ReplyDelete
  53. They have heavily edited a lot of things to "appease" the fans so a lot got lost in translation. Also, continuity hasn't been a huge priority this season, if it wasn't a flashback that is.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I think that our cast doing an amazing job with every single script can go without saying, Beasties just know that, LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Lilith, I fully agree with you. My highlights:
    - The essence of the character Cat seems lost. Sometimes I get to thinking that she no longer loves Vincent. She was a woman so sensible now and try a relationship with Gabe - makes no sense, considering what he did to her and Vincent previously. I wish the writers say which theory for this behavior from her.
    - Vincent, despite its problems has been more consistent than Cat In this episode, mostly it was visible, how it is connected to Cat. It's so lovely.
    - JT and Tess really have not been exploited as they should. And the writers before the season 2 say that JT would have a big part, but it has not happen.
The episode was a bit confusing. I spent for several feelings: joy, hope, disappointment ...
One question: According to the writers 2x13 is special "Valentine's Day", but the PROMO is discouraging.. So what do you think? Will happen to VinCat something special?

    ReplyDelete
  56. They always try to hype the new episode, I think if jealous Vincent is your thing it will be awesome and I'm sure something big for VinCat will happen as well, as we'll only have three episodes left until the hiatus and they have to make it count.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I didn't like Tori but I was SOO disappointed in the fact that they killed her off... seriously??

I don't like Gabe. As much as everyone thinks he's the good guy, I just do not get a good vibe from the guy. He creeps me out and I think he's a wolf in sheep's clothing.

I think the FBI chick is shady and up to no good.

Cat is soooo back and forth about needing to be single and then wanting to get with Gabe. If she was my friend, I would slap her in the face for pissing me off!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Lilith I totally respect your sour taste and to some extent share it. Being in Australia however, there are some things to which we are just not aware. Therefore reading your review has definitely opened my eyes to some things. However I would like to make this comment in relation to your PS as quoted below

"PS: Don't forget to promote this and all positive Beauty and the Beast articles in all the social media you can. For instance be sure to click the like button, retweet this and +1 this article if you like it and appreciate this reviewer's hard work."

But for some reason when I read this article, I get the impression that you are ignoring you own advice and request to other Beasties. Just wasn't sure that you are (with absolute respect to you your hard work) aware of that?

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm glad to read that people are realizing that Kristin and Jay (as well as Nina and Austin) are not at fault for the direction of the show. In my opinion, they slay whatever is handed to them (even if it seems off-character for the character alone). I am enjoying the direction BATB is going; part of me wishes it could have gone a different route, but I do enjoy what we have going here.
The Tori arc was interesting to say the least. It was not what I was expecting -- so that's a good thing -- but I do wish they didn't go the romantic V & T route. Oh well; it happened, it's done with; she's dead.
As far as Gabe & Catherine go.... Catherine really hasn't experienced a relationship outside of her relationship with Vincent in S1. Vincent sort of has with Tori (then she dies), but other than a kiss a few episodes ago, G & C really haven't discovered where they stand. I think we owe it to Catherine to experience a non-beast (whether it is Gabe or anyone else) relationship to make her realize that Vincent is the only one for her. I do think, however, that the episodes have been a little bit rushed (not a big deal)...yet, I wish they could have handled time transitions a bit better. It's hard to tell how much time has passed since the mid season finale.
Loved your review by the way :) I love that your honest even though I don't agree with 'everything' you've said, Lilith.
I guess I'm a bigger picture kind of gal so I consider this last episode as a stepping stone episode--it's not entirely a crucial part in the plot (although Tori died), but it's a step up to wherever the writers are leading us. Hopefully the next episode will be more plot-dynamic and have more clarity to where Vincent & Catherine are going.
    Sorry for the babble!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I totally get the frustration my friend. Let it out.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have so many problems with the way Tori died, I just can't even elaborated without it getting obnoxious so I won't. But it's always fun to read how others are liking the season and seeing things in a completely different light, especially a fellow writer.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Are you saying that this isn't a positive article? I was very kind and polite and many feel the way I do. As I said I went out of my way to highlight the good and I'm not pointing out anything the writers haven't read on their twitter feed or expressed concern about in interviews or via twitter. Constructive criticism is needed for improvement and gives food for thought. So many beasties tweeted this to the writers and I take it as a compliment that I was able to capture how they were feeling. If nothing this article has been good to prompt earnest discussion about how everyone is feeling about the season thus far.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I agree with everything you said, especially about what they did with Tori. I liked the character, liked the idea, and they could have done a lot with her if they hadn't been so short-sighted.

Also agree with the squickiness of Cat being so into Gabe now.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Lilith, I believe the reason the show is being rushed is because it got cancelled. It hasn't been announced yet but at this stage I hold out no hope. They are trying to finish up as meaningful as possible so everyone and their story is not being fully told so they have no other choice but the cram everything in to whatever they have left. Is it Brad Kerns fault? I doubt that very much because some of us fans loved what he did and unfortunately others did not. What i do think is that many fans got stuck with the old fairy tale version and couldn't get past that and maybe if he wrote from the start we wouldn't be where we are today, or maybe the show would have got cancelled after first season. I believe the original writers wanted to try something different and give it a fresh and new approach but it didn't work for the majority of fans. Personally, I have enjoyed it sooooooo much but my taste is mine and mine alone and each to their own. You say if no one says anything it will never get better, well..I think too many people said too much and many of the fans left before they even saw an episode because of the negative reviews and people getting carried away with the lack of epic love and fairy tale version. I also believe this version would have done better on a different network and not with CW, though I have to give CW the credit for giving it a good run. At the end of the day it was great while it lasted and hope to see a lot more of KK and JR and all the other great actors on the show.

  66. I'm actually well aware and stated such of the situation our show is in but they've seen the writing on the wall since episode 3 and had time to pull other things together but opted to give us this hot mess so the gloves came off. I'm willing to overlook this bump in the road if things start adding up and they start fulfilling all those promises they made over the summer.
Everyone watches the show for different reasons but you can't deny there has been a bait and switch on a few issues. This review nor is any other law, it's just all unadulterated subjective opinion on how someone views their media. I'm glad you're enjoying the changes and the season's new tones. I'm still fighting for season 3 of BATB whether on the CW or Netflix makes no difference to me. Cheers and enjoy the rest of the season

  70. I think we will never know if Brad Kern's bad choices are tied to the low ratings, because s02 ratings were that low to begin with. I think the ratings were more due to the new Monday night time slot and absolutley no advertising from the CW. But changing the direction of the show certainly did nothing to gain new viewers, if that was the plan by hiring Brad Kern.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Sorry Lilith but no, I don't find this and I quote: "........I’m just going to say it, Brad Kern brings every writing partner down a notch or twelve.
very positive at all and many feel the way I do about this weeks ep... but this is just my opinion on what you wrote.

But.... each to their own I guess, and please, don't misunderstand me, I look forward to your next review, because like I said in my earlier comment, you did open my eyes to some things that I hadn't thought of so maybe I will "see" your review differently next week. This is the first time I have disagreed with you. I hope its the last because I am normally nodding my head in agreement with your views.

  72. Great review! I am a brazilian beast and I agree with everything you said. I'm so frustraded and depressed...

    ReplyDelete
  73. I hate that the writers tried to fix their 1st season mistake (we brought them together too soon) by making them completely different characters than last seasons warm, loving couple. This show is a shadow of what it was. They are not "finding who they are". They have written totally different characters. Last year when Catherine "moved on" from Vincent, she didn't jump into another relationship, she became a strong independent woman. They've turned her into a whiny, weak, I can't live without a man in my live character and as for Vincent, the only way they can fix the "monster" they've made Vincent into is that soon we're going to discover the real Vincent who will kill this clone.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Sorry Lilith but I don't think Vincent's character has been destroyed. He has reacted & behaved the way he has because of what he has been through. The old Vincent might have behaved differently, but this Vincent has had his memory wiped out, tortured, and betrayed by the people he trusted. On top of this Tori been a beast affected him mentally & physically so all this combined, he could not think/act straight.
I don't agree with the way the writes handled Tori's character or death. Sadly someone always pays the price.

I am hopeful that we will now see Vincent healing and finding himself again. For me he is the only character that has been consistent in this season & has only behaved the way he cos of what has happened to him.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I feel the same way you do! I might be critical of the show at times, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love it! I’ve just been disappointed and am a little (ok, more than a little) worried it’s going to get cancelled if they can’t get their sh!t together. While I want to be respectful with my opinions, I think it’s important we share our true feelings and let the show runners know what we the fans are thinking. Otherwise how will it get better? I really hope the network will give more control back to Jennifer and Sherri because those ladies never disappointed me last season!! They knew the characters and always wrote them consistant, this new batch are all over the place to suit the concoted storyline they have painfully contrived. (eg: Cat and Gabe) Seriously Brad, get over it!! We are!! Is it your mission to drive away all your remaining audience!?!? Agh! If we only have 10 eps left, please stop wasting them!!!!

I too wish they had chosen different paths for Tori. She could have been utilized for the better to the show, sadly she boiled down to a long, irritating speed bump. The whole “primal” connection was rediculas, and I’m embarassed for whoever came up with that idea! lol. What I don’t get is, this season is supposed to be an improvement from last, but so far they are recycling their S1 “mistakes” , so why kill Tori and leave V in the position that YET AGAIN, he appears to have put Cat 2nd? He would have run away with Alex if she hadn’t freaked out at his beastiness and he couldn’t overcome his “primal” connection with Tori. That’s not screaming EPIC love to me...good thing Jay and Kristin have chemistry in spades or I’d have jumped ship long ago, because lately the writers seems to be doing their best to sabotoge thier relationship! But really, why would I expect the writers to utilize Tori better when most of our beloved characters are being given the same treatment? JT, Vincent, Cat, Tess, Gabe, all almost unrecognizable from S1.

I don’t expect perfection from ANY show, and slight character fluxuation is present in them all, but PLEASE, pick something and stick with it!!!!

All that being said, there were some good points to the ep. I thought Jay & Austin acted the crap out of their scenes!!! *applause* Hopefully things will come together soon. The last 2 eps, I thought, have been an improvement story wise in comparision to what we have been getting. Next week will HOPEFULLY be the end of Cat and Gabe!!! *fingers crossed*

  76. Muito obrigada. Que pena. But I really do think they have something amazing planned for the last episodes we just have get through one or two more bumps.

  77. Vincent wouldn't have needed to "defend himself" had he not been mindlessly obeying orders, at least that's way I see it. The amnesia/brainwashed plot was just ridiculous, that's the most the show has ever been like a soap and that was BK's idea all the way.

  78. I understand all of that. I personally don't like it and think was a huge misstep. The only reason I can see for them doing it is splitting up VinCat, and to make Gabe look like a saint. Not good enough reasons for such a drastic departure from season 1. It is also a huge cop out, to say Tori's beastly wiles were too hard to resist, just ick. Also do no like the underlying them of Vincent 2.0 up until recently which was 'might equals right' as in I want something so I'm going to take it because I can. Maybe my problem is that I over analyze.

  79. Thanks for your review! I’ve always been Team V, but just wanna say that this ep……ahhhhh just make me sad and angry at the time! The way V treated and used Tori to get the gem, the shackle, to have sex, knowing she was into him and so lonely…. How he didn’t care when she died. Last eps JT told him about their “primal connection” how she cared about him/it. He’s suddenly so angry at her, I don’t get that. And now everybody loves Gabe, even JT??? I mean, WHAAAAAT?? It’s all so messed up!!

  80. I love this show. Season 1 captivated me and I think I even danced a little when it got renewed for season 2. All of the lead actors were amazing and I was anxious to see them grow in season 2, but for some reason they have all been off to me almost as if they as characters are going backwards instead of forwards.
The whole Cat/Gabe thing is ridiculous and it's being shoved down our throats in a way that upsets me. Gabe was the bad guy last season...the real big bad. He terrorized all of the characters at one point or another is, in the end, the reason that Vincent got captured and is the way he is now. Cat went from being so in looove with Vincent and wanting to fight for them, to finding out that Gabe liked her and wanting to be with him in what seemed like the blink of an eye....WTF. I wouldn't want Cat and Gabe together under any circumstances because the chemistry of VinCat is amazing, but if we're going to be forced to endure them, there should have been more of building on their romantic feelings. It feels forced and rushed. When the episode started talking about him leaving, I did my dance again, only to have it end with the hand holding. Fail.
My problem with Tori has been that she was just a mechanism to get in between Vincent and Cat. I get that, but there was no depth to her, she was just annoying. She was just there....BLAH. I had no feelings towards her death other than being glad she was gone. After reading your review I now feel like you do....they could have used her SO much more. She didn't have to be a love interest for Vincent. If she hadn't been they could have utilized having a female beast, one being born instead of created. I feel like they wasted a lot of potential story by writing her so irritating and then killing her. Other than Vincent being upset at how he treated her, no one cares that she died. That in itself speaks volumes to how pointless her character ended up being.
What happened to Tess and JT? I was so onboard with that and then it just vanished. More Badass Tess and Quippy JT. I think that's what been missing from my life. I can deal with Vincent and Cat being apart for now, rediscovering who they are apart, but the other elements of the show that made it so great are missing too.
Last, Agent Landon and Sam....as soon as I saw that guy in the cage I knew it was her long thought dead husband. There better be more to their story or again, it will have been pointless to have them appear at all.

  81. If what they are giving us is an edited version that is meant to “appease” us, then I’d HATE to see what they were planning on giving us!!!!! O.O

  82. Well said Beastie, well said I believe you've voiced how the majority feel!!

  83. Great review. I enjoy reading all the comments. I love season 2 for my own reasons. Gabe has a hidden agenda, he may or may not be a beast anymore, i you read between the lines, he hiding something. If you check out the preview for episode 2x13, you will notice Vicent snoooping around Gabe's apartment, when Vincent is holding Gabe against the wall with his right hand around his neck, he is holding a clear plastic bag in his left hand that has something in it. Of course the writers want us and Cat to think Gabe has redeemed himself, that's why he's been front and center this season. Jay Ryan looked absolutely gorgeous in every scene!! He is an amazing actor anId force to be reckend with. Oscar worthy actor!!!

  84. So well put...WTF with creepy Gabe the entire show...he serves no purpose except to be a creepy Cat stalker. He was dead and someone decided to bring him back and give him too much screentime every week...JT and Tess have episodes they are not even in and should be. Was it BK's idea to make Vincent (the heart and soul of the show) the baddie and Gabe (a big zero in S1 and S2) a goodie. Me thinks Sendhyl has a friend ...BK maybe.

  85. This is really an intelligent review of this past episode...I wholeheartly agree with you on 99% your observations/thoughts/impressions!

I do have one question, you say Jay is married?!? Was that announced and missed by the majority of us...cause all we have heard is that he has a baby daughter, Eve with Diana Fuemana, that he refers to as his partner?!? Please fill us in! 😉

  86. I refer to their partnership as a marriage, sorry for the generality of the term.

  87. Oi!

  88. I don't know what you are hearing or reading but a good majority of us are not into Gabe at all. He used to be cool and funny now he's just a pain. There must be a good reason why the Writers would suddenly have Cat so into Gabe which we'll just have to suffer through a few more eps before we find out I hope!. Anyway not only to you but everyone who has been on Team V all this time I don't get why you would be mad at V in 212 of all eps because it's a HUGE turning point for his character.

Vincent feels responsible for Tori. He's NOT in love with her. Vincent and Tori have NEVER said they love each other. Its just a beast bond they share so if they had sex which is strongly hinted at then I would say they are BOTH using each other. I don't like it but its just one lame aspect of how Tori's arc was mishandled. She was obviously willing and and trying her luck with him AFTER VinCat broke up. Listen to Tori in the boathouse in 212. She KNOWS Vincent is not into her and NEVER made her any promises. Also Vincent says to Tori later that their primal connection messes him up and on top of that VIncent hasn't gotten ALL his memories back so he is vulnerable angry and hurt after the one person who said she cared for him shot him. So poor Vincent IS messed up and so is VinCat this season as that is the PURPOSE of Season 2 ~ they have to find out who they are separately before they can get back together again. All this Gori crap is just a plot device for drama to make VinCat realize that as much as they try to be with other people ~ they will always find their way back to each other because they are meant to be. :o) Vincent now realizes his mistake in choosing his Beast side so he will now fight to win Cat back which I can't wait to see! Season 2 is one giant big puzzle that you have to look at as a whole so that all the WTF moments in each episode will then make sense. Hope this helps you get back onto Team V.

  89. I didn't say I wasn't onto Team V anymore, just said didn't like his attitude towards Tori, and yes I get the writers have reasons but that doesn't mean I have to agree with. And I was talking about the characters loving Gabe, not the fans! I think they all suffer from amnesia, specially Cat forgetting everything he did last season. I do know Vincat will end up together and I don't mind them being apart for a while or the entire season, or if they are with other people, but not Gabe, I think that's ridiculous

  90. Hi again! The characters are taken in by Mr Slick because they've made him into a boyscout now but let's hope the Writers are just being sneaky pulling one over all of us and that he will turn out to be far more sinister as many fans also suspect right now. One awesome Beastie Karin aka @BATBPassion on twitter has this fantastic theory and I sure hope she's right that Vincent and Gabe are mirrors of each other. V is seemingly bad but he's actually the good guy. And Gabe may act like Mr Perfect but he will turn out to be pure evil so that Cat comes to realize that she wasn't wrong to fall for Vincent in the first place and then they can begin to rebuild their relationship again. That's why of all the guys she could have picked to rebound with the Writers made her fall for stupid Gabe. Makes sense to me if it plays out like this.

  91. I totally undersand where you are coming from and get that it is a whole season arc and would have come together in the end, had we been able to have a normal season, but it is the pages of a book that make it readable not the beginning and the end.

  92. Thanks! Believe me, I'm 100% beastie and not giving up on the showBut for me, Cat's decision to be with Gabe, whatever reasons the writers want, is sick, pathetic and twisted!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Thanks for your concern. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels the way I did about episode 212. It just amazed me the way that writers decided to write Tess as Gabe's cheerleader and pushing Gabe towards Cat. After all the things he did to Cat and Vincent last year I don't see how Cat would ever want to be with Gabe. It kind of dishonored Cat's and Vincent's love. What really upset me was Vincent and Tori sleeping with each other. Tori is the girl that he kissed while he was still with Cat. For Vincent to directly jumped in bed with Tori after he and Cat broke up feels like he chose Tori over Cat. If he slept with someone else it wouldn't bother me.
I'm not as upset as I was on Monday night, I had the to cool down. I hope the writers can fix all the characters soon. JT is the only character that stayed true.
