The After was decent except for those ridiculously cartoonish bangers toward the end who drove the group into the woods. The end was weird (in a good way) and definitely something Chris Carter would come up with.
Watched both earlier today. Bosch is really good. I haven't read the books yet but it has great potential. Titus Welliver and Jamie Hector (Marlo from The Wire) are amazing. The After was terrible, IMO. I love all of Carter's shows but this was embarassingly bad, like watching one of those Asylum rip-offs or something. The acting was atrocious and I could care less about the whole 'mystery' after how cliched and horrible the Pilot was.
Bosch was better than I expected. I was expecting a miserable & depressing main character and a morbid show but I was pleasantly surprised. Welliver's Bosch isn't exactly a bundle of laughs but he doesn't overdo the hard-boiled detective shtick and he's supported by a really solid cast and some recognizable guest stars. The script, the acting, & the cast all makes for a very enjoyable hour of TV. Well done all around.
Some of the people you can look forward to seeing in the pilot: Amy Price-Francis (King, The Chicago Code) Lance Reddick (Fringe) Annie Wersching (24) Valarie Cruz (Dexter, Off the Map, Alphas) Abraham Benrubi (ER, Men in Trees) Eric Ladin (The Killing, Boardwalk Empire) Amy Aquino (ER, Brothers & Sisters, Harry's Law, The Finder, Being Human)
Just watched The After. It was pretty good. I liked the cast and the dynamic between the group is interesting. Minus the ending, it was basically Revolution without the time jump. I'm not sure if I like the fantasy elements of it but I'll probably continue watching for the other parts.
And one more thing, was I the only one who found the main character annoying? Her accent was really annoying.
I'm surprised how good this was. Despite a few eyeroll moments, the cast was engaging, the story compelling, and well Chris Carter, how can you go wrong? Definitely a recommend to watch from me. I can see this only getting better. Damn, colour me impressed!
Seen The After though its pretty much FlashForward meets Revolution and other post-Lost shows it did keep my attention for the entire episode and the ending was really creepy!
The acting was a bit patchy though and a lot of the plot predictable. I would probably watch more though.
I thought that Aldis Hodge (who I didn't even recognize!) was the best of the bunch but I wanted to punch the Irish character and the French woman was sometimes ok, sometimes annoying. Still early days so if its gets picked up hopefully they can expand and refine their roles.
ok, just watched the pilot.... and interesting plot bits but overall the acting was really pretty bad so much so that I kept fast forwarding a bit when the dialogue got really bad/cheesy the mystery part and the creature reveal was interesting, but I don't think that it's enough to bring me back...
Yeah it was so bad at times I thought it was a high budget student film! XD
I cannot decide if the dialog or the performances were the worst part.. Maybe a tie?
The only redeeming trait I can think of is that while a mystery series that does not reveal its mystery in the first episode would fail miserably and quickly on network TV, this is a streaming series and would be guaranteed a full season if it actually gets picked up.
Frankly it was a struggle to come up with anything good! XD
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Watched about six minutes of The After this morning before work, I'll definitely be finishing it tonight.

Thanks @Bruce_F impressive cast.
ReplyDeleteNo problem. Oh, I almost forgot. Scott Wilson (Hershel from The Walking Dead) guest stars as well.

I had no problem with her. It was McCormick (Andrew Howard) and Wade (Adrian Pasdar) whom I found annoying.
ReplyDeleteGoing to watch Bosch and After..after.

Agreed, the acting was very hit or miss in places. The mystery kept me watching and as you said the ending was pretty cool.

ReplyDeleteAh, yes. I forgot him too. I swear, watching that pilot was like playing a game of name that character actor.

Thought I would add that Mozart in the Jungle and Rebels are also available on Amazon now.
