I was skeptical about About a Boy when i first heard about it. But watching the promos and the leads they cast have me looking forward to it, looks cute.
Yeah, sorry to all the fans out there, but I actually cringed at both of these comedy promos. The one about a blind man just seemed weird to me, why would a blind person ever watch TV? They do other activities (at least my blind friends do. They don't even consider watching TV as an activity, and have no intention of doing it even if I ask and tell them I can inform them on what's happening) I'm not asking to be negative, I'm simply saying I don't see that as normal, much less funny. I could easily be proven wrong, though. Maybe the show does great. I'm still trying to determine whether I will watch About a Boy or not.
Perhaps your blind friends do not. But there are a lot of visually impaired who do, that's why there is descriptive video. Also that is one scene from a whole show, that was probably specifically shot to promote the Olympics on NBC. It's a little premature to judge the whole show based on the fact that you think that having a scene where a blind person is in the room when his seeing family is watching TV is odd.
You are correct that it is too early to judge the show based on this promo, what I meant by my comment is I just didn't think the promo was funny, basically. I will probably be watching the pilot, but they should have made a promo far better than that one to air during the Olympics, at least that's my honest opinion :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I am excited for About a Boy!

ReplyDeleteI agree that Growing Up Fisher is going to be a really weird comedy.
