Early on, I thought Britta, and I thought Annie & Troy should get together. But as the years have gone on, I see Jeff & Britta more like siblings now. So I am going with Annie.
But seriously : NO ONE. Community isn't a romantic comedy, it's not a show about a group of friends, not possible couples, there's no need for that. However I do like it when the writers poke fun at Jeff/Annie (like in the Fincher episode recently). As long as it's gentle poking and not anything beyond that, I'm good.
I'm going with no one. Jeff is in a community of friends, he's learning about friendship and family, about trust, loyalty, involvement, honesty. It's enough big deal in my opinion, at least for a great comedy like this. If I had to choose someone though that will be Annie because they really have a great chemistry I can't deny. Britta and Jeff are also fun together but more like siblings or best friends. Seriously I don't care about who will Jeff end up I just care about a great ending for the group and the show. Six seasons and a movie, Dan Harmon?
Having a romantic pairing doesn't make the show a romantic comedy but just realistic. If their relationship was to become the soul focus of the show (like in the mindy project or new girl) then it would become like a rom-sitcom.
Of everyone in the study group, I would say that Annie is his best match. Jeff and Annie seem to suit each other in that the both seem to instinctively know how to push each other, and pull each other back from the brink. And they seem to accept each other's short-comings. Britta is great in the "bickering sibling" role for Jeff, though.
Annie for me. I think of all the members of the group, it's Annie that has brought the real Jeff, the Jeff he wanted to be and is now to the surface. Plus now that the show is in it's 5th season, and Annie is 21 now, the age difference isn't as much of an issue.
Actually, Annie is 23, and Jeff is 35 (12 years older as established by "Intro to Political Science"). So at this point, the age difference really isn't an issue.
Totally agree. Britta, especially since about midway season 3 on, has seemed more like a sibling to Jeff than a romantic interest. Their interactions have been more on a brother/sister level, or that best friend you love to argue with.
Annie. They challenge each other, but bring out the good sides of each other. And putting them into a romantic relationship would not change how they interact much, they already act like a couple. Let them get together and explore the implications. Just don't ignore them once they get together then break them up for a contrived reason like Troy/Britta.
I agree with both of your points. Annie and Jeff seem to balance each other out in a nice way. And I love Jeff's relationship with Britta as it is now. They have established a really beautiful friendship (and sort of sibling-esque, I agree). I don't want them to go back to the Jeff and Britta well and screw up the friendship they've spent so long developing.
Agree, Nicole. When you spend all your time around the same group of people, it's natural that a romance may develop romantically. Does it NEED to? No. But a romantic relationship between two characters doesn't establish a show as a romantic comedy.
The problem with that is this entire show is about Jeff and the others growing as people. Jeff was a huge jerk in the beginning and it's taken him years to get to the point he is now. He doesn't like the old Jeff, which is made abundantly clear by the end of Repilot. He tries to go back to who he used to be, and he can't do it. Because he's CHANGED. And all of his friends have been a part of that change, and have helped with it. But I think Annie has more so than the others. She's the person Jeff can't stand to let down or disappoint.
If his character stays static, leaving him the Jeff Winger we met in the beginning of the show, I'd say no one. It just makes sense. But I love how Annie is the one he turns to when he needs to keep himself honest, so when she matures a bit, I could see them together, too. I guess it all depends on how these characters evolve.
Annie without a doubt. As someone said above, I see Jeff/Britta more as siblings now and that's when they're the best.
But I'd like it done in the way that Psych did, where you know they're together, maybe a few lines or plots are about them, but overall the structure of the show didn't change.
Jeff and Annie are the best pairing. Their interaction works amazingly well when they're the main focus of an episode, particularly the spoofs of action/thriller films like the coin slot one recently.
Definitely Annie. It seems quite obvious to me that Jeff cares more about her than anyone else in the group he can't stand to let her down or disappoint her. Plus she was in his heart in 'Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts', and they were together in his head in 'Biology 101'. So really if it was up to Jeff, he would be with Annie.
The show's season 1 finale had a three-way love square over the leading man, and since then numerous characters have dated or broken up, and even when they haven't dated (like Jeff and Annie) romantic attraction was part of major character motivation. Remind me again how romance isn't part of the comedy of the show.
What a stupid post. "People who disagree with me are obviously all in this group of people I'm going to refer to derogatorily. Because, clearly, they must be less than in some insulting way to not see how correct I am."
That wasn´t what I meant. I always understood his reference to Britta, that he can always be just who he wants to be and she would accept him. He doesn´t have to pretend or to try. She would accept him for who he his.
JT21 didn´t say that, actually. JT21 probably made some experiences with the comments on some Vampire Diaries posts. Nevertheless, you are right, that no one has the right to refer someone derogatorily.
But when has he ever pretended with Annie? He doesn't fake himself with her. If anything, he genuinely betters himself because he admires what a good person Annie is. I adore Britta, she may be my favorite. But it doesn't take Einstein to recognize that when she and Jeff hooked up it was due to self loathing on both ends. And she and Jeff don't have romantic chemistry. I mean damn Jeff has more romantic chemistry with the DEAN than with Britta. I want both Britta and Jeff to be happy, I just don't think them being together would make them happy.
Their age difference is 12 years. In I tri to political science, Jeff identified himself as 19 when he auditioned for Seatlle real work in 1997. Annie was born in 1990 and would've been 7 then. Thus, 12 years! :)
Yeah if he wasn't so emotionally stunted, he would be with Annie. You're right. I think at this point the age thing isn't so much what's holding Jeff back. It's that he knows that he doesn't necessarily deserve Annie, as much as he may care.
Agreed Katie. I'll be 30 later this year, definitely not a fangirl, teenage or otherwise. I just call it like I see it with Jeff ad Britta. And I genuinely don't feel anything romantic between them. They have fantastic chemistry as friends, but the romance aspect just isn't there. Honestly it never has been, even in S1 when it was forced upon the audience. Jeff and Annie have a naturally romantic vibe, despite the age difference.
He pretends because he feels, she is too young. He has said that multiple times. Distancing himself NOW from this opinion would be fake and out-of-character. Anne herself came together with Jeff at the end of season 1 simply to find out whteher or not she could be like Britta, as she stated herself. Jeff and Britta definitely have chemistry. He started the group simply to get to know her. He definitely has an interest in her.
Yeah, I edited that yesterday, but obviously the page didn´t save it, although I tried twice. But twely years is a little too much. Imagine you would date someone that much younger. They are at two complete different points in their lives
Yeah Jeff joined to get to know britta. That was years ago, there hasn't been any sort of romance between them since S2, and even then it was shallow, emotionless sex. With Annie, there's been much less physical content to their relationship, but I'd say more romantic emotion between them. Jeff was honest with Annie about his feelings both for her and his belief that she's too young. Being honest isn't pretending in any way so I really don't get what you mean by that. And Annie isn't a kid anymore, she's 23 or 24 years old depending on how much time has passed between S4 and S5. Jeff is 35 or 36. Annie is NOT 18 anymore even though Jeff has been into her since she was.
Congrats to your stepmom and dad but their relationship doesn´t necessarily mean, it would work for Jeff Annie. Jeff himself didn´t want to date her because of the age difference.
My only point is that it can work. And yeah, 12 years is a big difference when someone is 18 and the other is 30, but the older they get, the less significant it is. And I don't agree that Jeff and Annie are at very different points in their lives. Sure, Jeff is a teacher now, but they're both unmarried with no kids in the same environment.
I know right? At this point, it's pretty much canon that Jeff has romantic interest in Annie (whether Jeff pursues it is an entirely separate question). Not only that, Dan has confirmed in several interviews that Jeff definitely has a romantic interest in Annie and that Jeff and Britta have settled into the ex-girlfriend/sibling dynamic.
Even though the J/A relationship started with her having a crush on him and it seemed gross at the time because she was a teenager, I think the dynamics between them has changed over the years. Their interactions seem more mature now and we have come to know through implied means that even Jeff has feelings for her. I think the only plausible pairing on this show is Jeff/Annie as of now. Jeff/Britta started off as him wanting to bang her and over the years their relationship has never given a boyfriend/girlfriend vibe. They seem to act like best buddies or even siblings in certain situations.
Having said all this, I think Community has never been about relationships as a whole. This was eminent from the Troy/Britta relationship, that was the most absurd plot of the show till date. I mean, they never even kissed on screen when they were together. It was bizarre to say the least and also told me the Community is not capable of pulling a romantic relationship. The essence of the show has been its ensemble cast and 1 romantic pairing may change the dynamics completely.
However, if renewed for a 6th season, I think Harmon may want to give a full blown romantic relationship a shot and I can see only Jeff/Annie as a tenable choice for him to do so.
I don't really get all the venom against Jeff/Britta, and Britta in particular. By Dan's own statements, he really feels the group can't survive a romantic pairing within it (hence the jest that season 4 happened in Abed's dreamatorium). So the show isn't likely to end with any pairing. But, if the show were to go with any pairing, it would have to be Jeff/Britta. It's coherent with the rest of the plot and threatens the group dynamic the least. Jeff and Britta behave around each other the same way when they are a "couple" as when they are just friends. It's a level of comfort that you can imagine in a couple that has been married for decades. It also falls in line with Dan's experimenting with falling back in love. The whole "chemical lack of chemistry" is intentionally designed to make this relationship unique from other pairings. And it has worked well, as Britta and Jeff, despite their bickering, are almost always seen hanging around each other; hell, even when she's dating Troy, she stays around Jeff more, even during Thanksgiving. Jeff/Annie, on the other hand, while a cute pairing, doesn't seem to work well, narrative wise. Age surprisingly has little to do with that (but if the two people are separated by a decade and a half of age, then they will go through different stages of life with one another. That's not very stable). If Jeff decides to be with Annie, I don't see him staying friends with Britta for very long. There's way too much history there, and the three-way friendship will become toxic very quickly. What if something between Jeff and Britta rekindles? This will likely be in the back of Annie's mind and probably Jeff's as well for their entire lives. And of course, Britta will probably be all alone, as Jeff is the only character in this universe so far that is compatible with Britta. Quite a tragic finish. The same can't be the case if Jeff/Britta, because Annie has already acknowledged that her feelings for Jeff are more about her wanting to feel loved rather than love from Jeff. Their so-called romantic interactions are fleeting and temporary. It'll wind up like Troy and Britta. Annie shares much more of a connection with Abed, basically the same kind that Jeff and Britta have for one another. Isn't he the more obvious choice?
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
