From the list and among the ones that I watch: Arrow, The Mentalist (same composer, incidentally), and Game of Thrones. And I wish Fringe hadn't ended last year so I could add it to that list :)
The choices arent very representative for great musical scores. Personal I think Greys Anatomy, The Vampire Diaries and Pretty little liars have the best musical scores
I'm adding Bitten, even though it's very new. The score they are using reminds me of the old Sierra games Phantasmagoria and Gabriel Knight. It's one of the reasons I really like the show. It has that old gothic feel to it.
Game of Thrones, it has moments that remind me of the Battlestar Galactica score (which is my all time favourite) but it just fits really will with the show.
Though its early days yet I find the score for True Detective really haunting.
Interesting to see GOT and POI separated by such a large margin considering they share the same composer. But still, I think Castle and Robert Duncan win this, with House of Cards and Jeff Beal a close second.
From the list Sherlock, Once Upon a Time, and The Mentalist, with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Sleepy Hollow as honorable mentions, plus Other: Doctor Who, Castle and Rizzoli & Isles
Mine are Person of Interest, The Mentalist, and Supernatural. I like to listen to their musical score sometimes. The background music can do a great deal for a show's mood.
I loved Fringe's music too. I loved the Love and Death On Observer Island, A Protest in September, and others like Henrietta and The Nine Lives of Olivia Dunham.
Other: Bones. That music has just grown on me and it's distinctive. But I like POI's and Game of Thrones, whose themes were both written by the same guy.
Game of Thrones and Other: Da Vinci's Demons. I'm not fan of the show but Bear McCreary's music is beautiful. Also I love the fact that he made reference to Da Vinci's ability to write backward in the main theme by making it a musical palindrome.
I think my favorite original scores were from HBO's Carnivale and HBO's Rome, both by Jeff Beal!
Beal also did the score for many TV shows like Monk, In Plain Sight, House of Cards and movies like Appaloosa, Pollock, and all the Jesse Stone TV movies... and many more!
Listening to the POI season 2 soundtrack as I'm typing. Reese's theme is simply amazing (1:21!!!). Definitely gives him the feel of a movie action hero! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wceuoGgy8jQ
Person Of Interest has some very basic motifs, but I love how Ramin Djawadi connects it all. There are so many variations of the some basic melodies, and lately some great combinations of new themes. I think even people who don't pay attention to background music would recognize the show's soundtrack with their eyes closed. It's great.
His score for Game Of Thrones is even better, of course! As someone else pointed out, the adaptations of the songs from the books are great. I love how he incorporates "The Rains Of Castamere" into the Lannisters' theme. His themes for Stannis, the Starks, Daenerys, etc. are all very memorable as well.
Sherlock has some seriously beautiful music, but the main theme does tend to annoy me at times. :p I do like that pretty much all of his character themes are variations on the opening music.
I. Love. The Sleepy Hollow main theme. It's epic.
The Walking Dead is another one of my favorites. It's such a shame that AMC refuses to release an official soundtrack! Not many recurring themes on the show, but the sounds McCreary uses fit so well. Using frantic banjo in zombie action scenes makes no sense at all, but it works!
It's a shame I can't say Breaking Bad or Dexter anymore. Dave Porter (now on The Blacklist!) has such a weird style. It barely even sounds like music, but it's not exactly distracting either. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMHu_LQrugU
I definitely like Game of Thrones, Person of Interest, Revolution, Bates Motel, Sleepy Hollow, Hannibal, and Once Upon A Time's.
But some of my favorites of all time would be: Battlestar Galactic and Caprica SDTKs (I just love Bear McCreary) Lost (Another love - Michael Giacchino - which some of LOST's are also Alias SDTK) Fringe (Michael Giacchino, Chris Tilton) Dexter (Daniel Licht)
Oh, I have so many favorites! Grace's theme in "Day 3191" and "All In", Cal's death theme, Jessica's theme mixed with Reese's theme in "Prisoner's Dilemma", "Mi Familia", "Shaw"... They did a great job compiling the best tracks from season 2. The editing in some of the tracks does bother me a bit (especially because I plan to make compilations, as you probably know ;)), but I guess this is all they could fit on one CD. :p
I liked Cal's theme, and the last two. HR, All In and Shaw were very good. Prisoner's Dilemma and Mi Familia were ok. I was disappointed that there were none (unless I wasn't listening correctly) with the music that can be heard as Shaw and Reese are walking out of the gunfight where Greer is. It's only a small piece of music but it's commonly used. And it's one of my favourite bits.
If you're referring to Decima's theme, that one's at the beginning of "Virus Within A Virus"! The music during the shootout is a version of Shaw's theme, and you're right. The score in that scene is a better version of both of those themes.
Yeah there are tiny snippets of it but I really want a decent length version. Like the one used when Reese is being chased by that cop in The Crossing when he's leading them away from Carter.
♪Blake Neely is brilliant!!!♫ ----> The Mentalist and Arrow. I don't watch Arrow, though, but when he said he would do the music, I had to check it. In fact, Eli Stone, another series I haven't seen (lol), the music is simply GREAT. I love it. Blake Neely is a great composer.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteInteresting to see GOT and POI separated by such a large margin considering they share the same composer. But still, I think Castle and Robert Duncan win this, with House of Cards and Jeff Beal a close second.

ReplyDeleteRookie Blue and Grey's anatomy
ReplyDeleteGOT without a doubt

ReplyDeleteive really been liking the music for Reign. especially the instrumental music they play during important Frary scenes (end of ep 7)
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones and Other: Da Vinci's Demons. I'm not fan of the show but Bear McCreary's music is beautiful. Also I love the fact that he made reference to Da Vinci's ability to write backward in the main theme by making it a musical palindrome.

The Walking Dead - Bear McCreary ftw
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people confuse a soundtrack and a musical score..

ReplyDeletePerson of Interest and OUAT are good too

ReplyDeleteMy favourite from S2 is Crash of Death. Figures, since my favourite from S1 was Listening with a Million Ears.
ReplyDeleteThe Mentalist!!! ... and Sherlock
ReplyDeleteOh, I have so many favorites! Grace's theme in "Day 3191" and "All In", Cal's death theme, Jessica's theme mixed with Reese's theme in "Prisoner's Dilemma", "Mi Familia", "Shaw"...
