The hiatus is over, hooray. This may not be my best review, but it’s been a while so bear with me. “The Casket Girls” is the first episode after the winter break. I’m still confused as to why the women from the flashback were referred to as “casket girls”. In this episode Davina has freed Cami from her compulsion, Elijah and Marcel clash (I wonder why they hate each other) and Hayley helps Sophie get what she needs for the Harvest (besides Davina). Rebekah has plans to take control from Klaus and Marcel, getting Davina and Thierry on her side. Davina kills a few witches and then gets screwed over by Klaus yet again.
Biggest ‘Bitch’ moment: Klaus poisoning Davina and Tim, of course. Klaus really crossed the line on this one. I like that Marcel and Elijah stood together on this and found a way to protect Davina. And even though Elijah and Marcel saw it coming, clearly Rebekah did not. The look she gave him when she brought Davina back said it all, she didn’t need any words to portray how she feels.
Best badass moment: Davina’s take-down of Klaus and Elijah was awesome. The way she just snapped Klaus’ neck and made Elijah choke on his own blood, yikes. I bet Marcel was shaking in his boots by the time she came around to him. However had Rebekah not interfered, I don’t think she would have taken him down. She loves him too much.
Most tragic moment: RIP Tim, honestly not how I had expected his return to go. I knew he’d be back but I figured it would be a little more romantic and way less tragic. Davina waking up to find him dead just broke my heart.
Most ‘off the rails’ character: Ah Sophie, from making out with random guys on the table in her kitchen (where food is prepared, gross) to digging up 200 year old graves, I have a feeling things are going to get even worse now that she found Celeste’s body.
Favorite character: I never expected Josh to last this long. He has become one of my favorites, so the writers better not kill him off ever. The way he told Davina to not hold back when she went against the Originals even though he knew that if they died he would too (didn’t realize that was common knowledge these days), shows how much he loves her. She’s really going to need him now, so I hope Rebekah can sneak him in.
Best ‘Oh no she didn’t’ moment: Hayley was kind of underused this week, in my opinion. So instead of having her help Rebekah (as I had hoped she would), she ended up helping Sophie. Oh Hayley, you are so going to regret this. I know Hayley wants to help her family, but this will have some really bad consequences.
Best ‘You go girl’ moment: Cami was fantastic when she both yelled at her uncle and threatened Klaus. Her uncle totally had it coming. Going up to Klaus was a bold move. Now I’m not sure if Davina’s spell means she can no longer be compelled (I doubt it), but if not it was very risky considering Klaus could have just re-compelled her. But he seemed too surprised to even think about it. Cami has never been afraid of him and now I actually think it should be the other way around. Klaus better watch his back.
Best ‘What the…’ moment: When Elijah found the hidden meaning in Davina’s paintings my jaw almost hit the floor. I’d like to declare Elijah the official Puzzle Master. How did he even see that? I hope we’ll be getting some Celeste flashbacks because she seems to have a bigger role in this Harvest thing than what first appeared.
Best quotes: Rebekah: “Us girls have got to stick together.”
Sabine: “While you’ve been drowning your sorrows, nailing everything that walks, …”
Josh: “Hey Cami, you don’t have any human blood in your fridge, now do you?”
Klaus: “Took you long enough to spread the word.” Elijah: “Well have you met his nightwalkers? Not the brightest assortement.”
Rebekah: “Dull, dreary, hideous.” Marcel: “Are you talking about the clothes, or something else?” Rebekah: “Why, feeling insecure?”
Next week’s episode is “Après Moi, Le Déluge”. Makes me wish I’d paid more attention in French class. Check in again next week for a new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s Originals.
The beginning was in reference to the real casket (casquette) girls: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casket_girl
ReplyDeleteAnd this was a great episode! I just watched it last night, I'm glad though because now it's less of a wait until the next one. The ending was AWESOME. I am very excited for Celeste. And I agree with your "most bad-ass moment" and would add also the scene where the witches come for Davina in the church. The editing of that was really cool, and the way Davina lifted them up and then killed them had me screaming "HELL YEAH!"... I hope the witches continue to be a driving force in the narrative because the witchcraft on TVD is nothing compared to what the Originals has going on! :)
I'm guess I'm in the minority but isn't Rebekah using Davina now just as much as Marcel was before? I don't see how she's better off with Rebekah than she was with Marcel. I guess it just looks to me like Marcel actually does care about Davina (and they've know each other for months now) and Rebekah doesn't know Davina and never cared about her until now. I really think that Josh is the only person who doesn't want something from Davina.
ReplyDeleteI love this episode Rebekah and Davina teaming up I hope Rebekah can get Cami and Hayley on her side too I hope she succeed in taking everything away from her brothers I love Klaus because he doesn't apologize for who he is but I do think he wants to be a better person especailly when he with Cami I do think Elijah is the noble one but sometimes I wish he stop trying to make Klaus a better person I think Klaus needs to learn that on his own I love this show but it's such a guy show that I like seeing the women standing up for themselves hope they can win sometimes
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Rebekah seems just as bad as Klaus right now.
ReplyDeleteKlaus seems the most honest with his intentions towards Davina but he's also the most brutal so he's still a terrible choice, lol.
ReplyDeleteI think Cami gets points for bravery and I like that she stood up for Davina AND Josh but she needs to remember who's talking to, there's not a whole lot she can do to the guy, her threats were completely hollow. Even if she did run around screaming the French Quarter was infested with vamps, nobody would believe her... At best she'd locked up somewhere till the vervain left her system and was compelled to forget again and worst involves a bloody, painful death at the hand of vamps wanting to shut her up.
ReplyDeleteGreat review, thanks. I loved that when Davina started hurting Klaus both Marcel and Elijah made a motion to stop her, they maybe care for her but they still love Klaus more. It's nice they don't forget where their loaylties should be. Poor Elijah, he maybe my favorite character but what she did to him was deserved he treated her with superiority and amusement. I am over Rebekah and her storylines, taking over NO is a stupid plot, even if she can dagger Elijah and put Marcel in the garden what will she do to Klaus? She can't dagger incapacitate him and killing him is obviously not an option she still loves him. I loved seeing Hayley work with Sophie. Probably won't happen but i want to see more of them, and maybe even becoming friends at some point in the future.
ReplyDeleteI am glad they explained the paitings Davina drew, I used to roll my eyes whenever i saw them in the back ground but they turned out to be the bringer of awesome news. I hope they don't ruin Celeste's character by simply making her Esther 2.0 She needs to still be multidimensional character and love Elijah even is she is coming back to kill vampires.
I don't think Rebekah is controlling Davina or anything, I think what they have is a "mutual agreement" kind of thing, where they are both seeking a little bit of revenge from Marcel and Klaus (predominantly) because they used and controlled them.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree with you. Josh is stuck being a vampire.
ReplyDeleteYeah --But if Davina Kills Klaus, THEN Rebekah will kill her. Elijah and her are both like that.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know. The originals have a 1000 years walking on this planet. They have seen it all. Human turning on each other without being compulsion. Cami needs to realize that the amount of knowledge and history these vampires have seen. She can learn alot from them about human behavior.
ReplyDeleteI like Celeste coming into the series now. I don't agree with Davina keeping all that power. She has helped Marcel kill alot of witches who can't come back to life. Davina is going to come back to life along with the other 3 witches who were her friends. AND the power is gonna be distributed back to the ALL the witches. I imagine her dead ancestors are pissed at her for not going through the Traditional ritual that has been practiced for hundreds of generations. She is like a teenager who won the power ball lottery and thinks she knows it all. THe power she has was not meant for 1 witch. AND nature it seems is gonna to see to that in the next episode. I like that. Once all the powers are distributed back to all the witches. IT will balance the show out. Let's not forget how freaked out the witches are about Klaus' baby. They are gonna want to kill it. Let us see how Rebecca will deal with that. It will be the vampires vs the witches vs the wolves. It will be cool. And how is Klaus gonna deal with his wolf bloodline.
ReplyDeleteGreat review. I really don't have anything other to say than that, except, Apres Moi, Le Deluge literally means, After me the flood. But it mostly refers to 'damn the consequences"
ReplyDeleteI kind of doubt it. She didn't kill Jeremy & Elena when they killed Kol.
ReplyDeleteI don't mean revenge by killing Klaus (or anyone else), I meant revenge by taking them down a notch in terms of control.
