Vicki had practically zero purpose on the show and had major differences from the book version of her. She was almost instantly a throwaway character. Hell, even in the books her role was practically nonexistent. Nick made a reappearance later on and probably would have shown up again if the show hadn't been canceled. Those are hardly good examples.
Vicki was still a main character, and it can be argued that plenty of characters on TVD didn't have much of a purpose at first, especially considering the overemphasis on Elena, Damon and Stefan. Nick's reappearance was very brief and used more as a tool to show Melissa's growth in the series and, as he'd died for the second time, was likely not going to come back again unless for flashbacks. All three series' are from The CW and interlink with the same writer, so they're perfectly fine examples.
Doyle died in season one of Angel. I was very shocked at that and was convinced they'd bring him back somehow but never did. Damn near everyone else got to come back from the dead but him. I think the actor died sometime later so then it was definitely a no go but my memory is a little fuzzy, that was awhile ago now.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Sigh. Davina. = ( they need to bring her back, like ASAP. before the season is over.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Davina will return soon. They wouldn't make her a regular if they were going to permanently kill her off 11 episodes into the season.
ReplyDeleteVicki from TVD and Nick from TSC beg to differ.
ReplyDeleteThey killed Vicki on The Vampire Diaries after seven episodes, and she was a main character.

ReplyDeleteBut that was because of the actor though I think more than the character. They had to let Glenn Quinn go because of his drug/alcohol addictions.
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying the re-focus on witchcraft and that they are introducing a new kind of magic.
