The CW's The Flash casting call leaked back in December for the role of Iris West.
The role called for
IRIS – 22-28 – African-American – As smart as she is beautiful, Iris is in grad school studying psychology. She’s also Barry’s mile a minute, fast-talking, quick-witted best friend. Her father, Detective West, took in Barry when his mother was murdered, and his father was wrongly accused and imprisoned for her murder. In a tough childhood for Barry, she was the one “not tough” thing. She’s unaware of Barry’s strong feelings for her.
Word is buzzing that they are looking at two actresses for the role of Iris West. Newcomer Christine Shepherd and Tessa Thompson.

The casting team are believed to be leaning towards Christine's look. They said they both have a really great chance. 50/50
They will make a casting decision soon. Sometime in Feb.
Reports that Ernie Hudson is in talks for this role.
DETECTIVE WEST - Late 40s to Early 50s - African American -Detective West is an honest, blue-collar cop who's seen it all. A soulful, funny caring father to Iris, and a surrogate father to Barry, West came up through the foster system himself. He took in Barry after his mother's murder and his father's imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports Barry's efforts to prove his father's innocence.

ReplyDeleteTessa seems more appealing to me but I didn't watch either so I can't say which one I would really prefer. Jurnee Smollet, Jessica Parker Kennedy would be one of my choices.

ReplyDeleteI would cast Aja Naomi King, I know that she is a good actress and she has been on a CW show before. I think she really fits this role, hope she at least auditions.
Is Detective West's first name Wallace? Also known as Wally West? Cute!
ReplyDeleteI wish Iris would stay a reporter/journalism major. Making her a psychologist makes me afraid they will have her get involved with the villain of the week the same as Laurel in Arrow season 1, just to have her involved in the story.

I really hated Tessa Thompson for the time she played Jackie on Veronica Mars... My God, she was annoying! ¬¬

ReplyDeleteNo. Iris West is Wally's Sister so Detective West would be their father.

ReplyDeleteThat doesn't mean his name isn't Wally as a nod to another Flash. Detective West is Barry's foster father, which means he is important to Barry and a good person to take Barry in, which makes Iris and Barry siblings if the show wants that and perfectly able to have a relationship if the show wants to go that way.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what Jurnee is doing after True Blood ends but Jessica Parker Kennedy is on the new show Black Sails so there would probably be some scheduling conflicts. But I agree, I would love to see either of them in the role. I have seen Tessa in something (can't remember what though), never seen Christine before
ReplyDeleteEither way, they are destroying the possibility of ever doing Wally West properly on the show, and to a lot of people, he is just as much an iconic, legendary Flash as Barry..... bad move.

ReplyDeleteI would feel more comfortable with Tessa. Not Christine, i don't like Christine at all. She gives me a werid vibe. Tessa looks more adorable, let's go with her. Idk either of the women, i'm just trying to picture the chemistry between them and Barry. and Tessa looks as young as Barry. And she looks more fun. And Ernie Hudson? Seriously? shouldn't you be working on your Ghostbusters movie?? (whyyy smh). I'm glad these are just rumors. I'm gonna take it with a grain of salt.
