The CW has gotten in the pilot ring with orders to dramas Identity, from executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci, and Jane The Virgin, an adaptation of the successful Venezuelan telenovela Juana la Virgen. They join previously announced standalone pilot The Flash, which is now casting, and backdoor Supernatural spinoff episode, tentatively titled Supernatural: Tribes, written by Andrew Dabb and directed by Robert Singer.
Identity too is inspired by existing material, Israeli feature script Dance Of The Hours by Orna Raiz. Written by Corinne Brinkerhoff, the drama project centers on a young woman in need of a transplant who learns she is related to a powerful family whose son is her only hope for a donor organ. The CIA approaches her to investigate the family’s involvement in domestic terrorism and to infiltrate their rarefied world. Her loyalty, morality and ethics are tested as she’s forced to slowly build a case against the family who saved her life. CBS TV Studios is producing with studio-based K.O. Paper Products as well as Scripted World. Brinkerhoff is exec producing with K.O.’s Kurtzman, Orci and Heather Kadin and Scripted World’s Rob Golenberg and Alon Aranya (ABC’s Betrayal).
Jane The Virgin, written by Jennie Snyder Urman, also is from CBS TV Studio, where Urman is under a deal, and Electus. It centers on Jane, a hardworking religious girl who, due to a series of outrageous events, is accidentally artificially inseminated. Urman executive produces with Electus’ Ben Silverman as well as Gary Pearl and Jorge Granier.
One of the most buzzed about projects at the CW this season, Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero’s drama adaptation of DC‘s iZombie, also has received an official pilot green light. This puts the CW, which carried the final season of Veronica Mars, back in business with the series’ creator Thomas in a big way as he also is doing a Veronica Mars spinoff digital series for the network. Written by frequent collaborators Thomas and Ruggiero based on the characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred and published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint,. iZombie, from Warner Bros TV and Rob Thomas Prods, is a supernatural crime procedural that centers on a med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head. Thomas and Rugierro, who co-wrote together the upcoming Veronica Mars movie, are executive producing with Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge.

I can't believe that they are seriously considering Jane The Virgin.
ReplyDeleteI'm really scared of how they are going to adapt iZombie, one of my favorite comic books... We'll see.
ReplyDeleteMe too.
ReplyDeleteNo
ReplyDeleteLol
Maybe
Some days I think Mark Pedowitz is a certified genius, days like this I wonder what he's smoking and if he's willing to share.
ReplyDeleteActually if the writing and acting is there Jane the Virgin sounds like it could be very funny, like Popular or Privileged.
ReplyDeleteIdentity and iZombie sound pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but some of these sound like they could be hella entertaining
ReplyDeleteMeh, the CW has way better shows in development. The painted girls, the revengers, the perfectionists, Red and Cross; just to name a few. Overall, i'm quite disappointed with the pilots released thus far.
ReplyDeleteI agree.I really want Painted Girls,Perfectionists,Unfamous,Revengers
ReplyDeletelol "Juana la Virgen" was a huge telenovela when it was aired and that was like more than 10 years ago but will be wird seeing it in the CW of course they will change things i hope they add more comedy to it but the telenovela was good i dont see why the tv series cant make it if "Ugly Betty" worked so this one can... i`ll give it a try just cause i loved that telenovela and the ending was great..
ReplyDeleteI Zombie sounds like a interesting show i can see it being at 9 after TVD
Good funny or bad funny?
ReplyDeleteiZombie is a no-brainer. Identity is written by a writer from The Good Wife, so this should be interesting. But Jane the Virgin... is it secretly awesome or something?
ReplyDeleteWell we know that the Flash and the SPN Spin-off are pretty much locks, so if The CW.
ReplyDeleteMonday
8:00 - NEW DRAMA
9:00 - Supernatural
Tuesday
8:00 - The Originals
9:00 - NEW DRAMA
Wednesday
8:00 - Arrow
9:00 - THE FLASH
Thursday
8:00 - The Vampire Diaries
9:00 - SUPERNATURAL SPIN-OFF
Friday
8:00 - ANTM / The Carrie Diaries (maybe)
9:00 - Reign
One of the new drama slots could be taken up by The 100 if renewed. TTP and Star Crossed seem unlikely to be renewed at this point.
The CW ordered 8 pilots in total both last year and the year before. I doubt they'd order less this season, even if they have more successful shows now, they still have enough hours they can improve on a weekly basis, and so I think we'll probably see them ordering 2-3 more soon enough.
ReplyDeletethey have better chance of success if they order more pilots otherwise they might have to pick out of a bunch of failed ones/sub par ones just to fill gaps. How many they pick up to series is still dependant on how well the current shows are doing at the end of the season and the two shows yet to premier.
ReplyDeleteNone of them sound appealing
ReplyDeleteI think TCD is definitely getting cancelled, too.
ReplyDeleteIdt i like this. Makes me nervous for the shows that are on there that i like. To my understand, TCD, and BATB, are to soon be cancelled yes? With that, i figured TTP and Reign would be safe, and idk about HOD. But then they have The 100 and Star-crossed coming in also. That's also including TVD, SPN, T.O. and Arrow...so tell me how the hell does these shows fit in with that?!??!
ReplyDeleteSure don't.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing Arrow, The Originals, Supernatural, and TVD will be renewed soon. That's four hours.
ReplyDeleteHoD will get S4 for syndication but it might be a shorter one like Nikita, too early to tell.
A 6th hour on Fridays will probably be reserved to ANTM at least at the beginning of the season.
Reign will probably be renewed and moved, TTP will most likely be cancelled. One of The 100 and Star Crossed could potentially be renewed as well, but perhaps to a shorter season like TCD this year, and there will be 3 hours to launch new shows next fall.
I'm assuming that one of these shows will be The Flash, and there'll be four more pilots to select from the rest for both fall and midseason.
"supernatural crime procedural that centers on a med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories" someone must've been stoned when they wrote this plot
ReplyDeleteI was waiting for CW to finally announce some Pilot orders
ReplyDeleteIZombie : Yes, i was really hoping they would choose this one, i hope that cast will be good
Identity : Doesnt sound like the show i would like, but last year i said the same about Reign and it is my favorite new show, so with good cast it might be good
Jane : Sounds the worst out of those 3, i will wait for cast announcements
Now im waiting for other pilots from them, im hoping for another historic drama that could pair with Reign net season
good funny like Ugly Betty. I mean they have to change the name, Jane The Virgin is really an off turner. It's like they are mocking about it. I think the show has potential, it's CW material they work good with this stuff. Identity could work, but Cw doesn't handle well shows with bigger casts. iZombie seems interesting and could work with a solid lead, maybe Candice Accola?
ReplyDeleteI hope CW picks up the dorothy must die pilot, seems the most interesting out off all Oz pilot/scripts.
ReplyDeleteNext Year it could be :
ReplyDeleteMonday : Reign / New Historic Drama
Tuesday : Supernatural / Supernatural: Tribes
Wednesday : Arrow / Flash
Thursday : The Vampire Diaries / The Originals
Friday : ANTM / Hart Of Dixie(Maybe short Season like Nikita)
+ iZombie for Mid-Season
+ The 100 or New Drama for Mid-Season
Cw could order 5 dramas again: Flash, Supernatural: Tribes(for now I think they have more chances to be ordered to series) and three between iZombie, Jane The Virgin, Identity and maybe other three pilots (usually, Cw orders about 8 pilots).
ReplyDeleteI don't think Reign, if renewed(I hope so), will be moved to Monday at 8pm, 'cause so far it's going a little bit better than Beauty and The Beast, but it could lose many young viewers. It's not a hit that can start the night in a good way and hopefully be a good lead-in like The Originals, Arrow and The Vampire Diaries.
I refuse to believe that TTP will be cancelled!! We still have time for that, so I'm not going to scratch that off just yet.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I like TTP, I can't imagine them renewing a show that gets 0.5 in the demo.
ReplyDeleteFrom these descriptions I can't say I am excited about any of them. Of course I am a big CW fan so I'll probably give them all a chance.
ReplyDeleteThat's for now!!! I have to keep a little bit of hope. A lot could happen between now and May.
ReplyDeleteReally disappointed with these pilots so far. Personally, I don't really like about Arrow so I don't care about an Arrow spin-off. I like Supernatural, and I'd watch the spin-off if it got picked up (which it probably will).
ReplyDeleteThe new pilots premises are really uninteresting to me, although with Identity and iZombie if they did them right they could both be enjoyable. Jane The Virgin... no.
And it just got 0.7 after I posted it :D
ReplyDeletePopular and Privileged were good funny so obviously.... ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteYou put it so well and hilarious.
izombie is the only one that sounds interesting the other two are just a waste of places that could have been take by better pilots. Jane will obviously bomb, i won't even check the pilot, pregnacies are always so boring. And what's the point in trying to top Blacklist or Revenge with that identity crap? Identity sounds like it's been done by other channels and much better than CW can ever hope to. They should just pick shows that work for them.
I need Rob Thomas back in life like I need air to breathe and that thing he's doing for CW Seed wasn't going to cut it. I think iZombie fits into the mold that The CW is going for "high-concept supernatural dramas with a heavy serialized element". Casting and writers is what could make or break this show, also they might want to consider a 13 episode run for the first season to lessen the pressure of churning out 22 episodes and suffering through breaks. I hope it works out, super interested.
