Supernatural - Season 9 - Jared Padalecki interview

Jan 20, 2014

“They’re handling it as you expect them to,” Padalecki adds of the conflict. “Sam kind of goes introverted and Dean goes forward. Sam is more the kind of guy that thinks something out and says, ‘Well, you know, this is where you messed up [and] this is why I’m upset.’… It’s nice dichotomy to catch on camera and, hopefully, Jensen [Ackles] and I get a chance to do a good job with it.”

Meanwhile, Sam will be dealing with the residual effects from Gadreel’s stint in his body. “It’s more emotional than literal and physical, but he certainly is still feeling the bruises,” admits Padalecki.

  1. Can't wait to see how Sam deals with Gadreel's possession.

  2. Expecting show to drop the ball with Sam's reaction tbh, anything more than 3 lines about it directly from his own mouth will be a pleasant surprise...

  3. whatever happens: please...PLEEEASSSEEE don't pull an Amy on us again.

I hate that there's a major fight between the brothers each season because one messed up since season 2.
Season 2 'Sam leaves because Dean didn't tell him that John told him to kill Sam'
Season 3 'Sam gets mad at Dean for not giving a damn anymore'
Season 4 'Sam goes off with Ruby and is mad at Dean for not trusting him'
Season 5 'Dean is mad at Sam because he didn't listen to him'
Season 6 'Sam is mad at Dean because he didn't tell him about having lost his soul'
Season 7 'Amy...blergh...sorry my lunch is coming up again'
Season 8 'Dean is mad at Sam for not looking for him'

can't we have one season with the two of them jumping hand in hand across a field of pink flowers, jumping and dancing while holding machetes in their other hands and slicing up monsters ?
I don't want them to fight, I want them to hunt and be brothers !

btw. did Cas kind of seem like the child that was in the middle of a divorce to you last episode ? I kept expecting him to say 'If you two split up I'll stay with mommy..I ment Sam'

  4. Sam goes introverted and Dean goes forward. Well it is in character for them. I would love to see some of Sams emotional reaction on screen dealing with the aftermath of his possession. That may be wishful thinking in a season where Sam has mostly been absent, but it's still my hope. Sam and Deans scene in the end of 9-10 was brief, still managed to be the emotional linchpin pin for the episode.

  5. Agree that the big fights between them are hard to watch, but some conflict is realistic because they are siblings who live and work together. I'd rather see them clash occasionally then to see them always in agreement - that would be boring and unrealistic. Of this list, I only agree with seasons 4, 5, 7, and 8. In season 2, Sam left on a hunt for answers about what YED did to him, not because he was mad at Dean. In season 3, Sam was very worried about Dean and pushed the issue, but it was in a supportive way, not an angry way. I don't recall a big blowup in season 6.

I would expect them to be working with each other but gradually be working things out. Generally when they have a fight their brothership is stronger and its great when they start laying out their problems and feelings.
I know Sam will get better and Sam's bruises will fade!. I am concerned that Crowley could of done something while possession Sam. I also wonder if Sam powers will come back onto the scenes but its early days that will evolved whatever way.

  7. It will be logical to see Sam show some major reaction to Dean's choice ! And can't wait to see the emotional effects of Gadreel 's possession that Jared remarked ! Being able to see Sam's emotional state once in a while is always welcomed by SamFans !

  8. The fact that he references Sam feeling emotional trauma over the possession gives me hope that we actually might get some Sam POV. I hope the writers don't drop the ball on this one because we've barely seen Sam at all this season.

  9. I do not mind the conflicts as long has they represent both brothers and not just Dean's side , which gives a lop-sided forced view of the situation.

Season 2 was not them having a fight it was Sam needing to learn the truth about himself after hearing about the secret . Which was only fair after being told your father told your brother to kill you if you cannot be saved..

  10. the fall out is dealt with in this weeks episode, Sam has a couple of scenes with Castiel, I belive he will basically be told that Dean was justified in his actions because they 'chose each other' then the whole emotional reaction to the Gadreel grace is about Sam deciding to let Cas take it even though it might damage him (which is doesnt). Then in episode 12 Sam they talk about how guilty Dean feels, that it isnt Dean's fault, that they will go after Gadreel/Metatron together, and I think based on past spoilers Sam might come out with something about Dean not saving im if it means other people are put in harms way or something while Dean will spout his usual round of it not being in him to let Sam go. I dont think they will agree but they'll let it go and Carver will have acheived absulutely nothing from the whole storyline.

  11. Its more about dealing with the left over grace and what Cas says it could do to him,Sam I believe will decide that Cas should take it to find Gadreel regardless of what it might do to Sam because it is the right thing to do. I'm not sure there will be much of a reaction to the actual possession outside of a line or two spoken to Cas.

  12. The Amy reaction isnt likely to happen this time even though this time Dean has run away in a 'selfish self pitying snit' I cant see Sam calling Dean a bitch and acting like a dick towards Dean like Dean did towards him in The Mentalists. My guess would be things are tense in episode 12 while they work on the Garth case dean will be acting like a butthole because he feels guilty, Sam eventually gets him to talk and tells Dean that Kevin's death wasnt his fault and someother talk that will likely not resolve the co-dependancy issue that Carver wants to kill but cant quite.

  13. I wouldnt say its stonger after a fight, more like they just brush it under the carpet untill the next time. If they were stronger then the same issues wouldnt keep arising.
Also your fear of Crowley possibly having dont something to Sam seems completely far fetched and unnecessary. Its highly unlikley Sam's powers will return. The grace being extracted storyline seems to be entirely emotional on Sam's part, removing it might cause him damage but he will allow it anyway because he's already a freak anyway and finding Gareel is more important than any damage it might cause him. Its also a convieneit plot device for Cas's own part in the angel storyline as I belive he will now take over the Gadreel/Metatron storyline while the brothers go back to MOTW episodes in episode 12 and beyond. Jared pretty much said that there wont be any after affects pysically. Its one episode and done on that front.

  14. I think you're going to be a very disappointed Sam fan

  15. Sam goes introverted is a nice way of saying they'll only be dealing with Dean's issues/thoughts and feeling but we'll chuck in a few lines for Sam here and there.

  16. Cas should find Galadriel kill him for forcing Dean to kick him out of the bunker. He came between my Destiel, ne needs to die)))))

  17. Oh! How I love to have some Sam's POV, about anything, not just this possession, sth which is not along the line 'I'm a freak' and such, an actual delve into his psych to know him.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Exactly. Sam's story now gets split between Dean and Cas. Sam will just be a plot device. We'll never know how he feels about being possessed again and losing control of his body and mind.

  19. Yeah . . . I'm not expecting much.

  20. Jared pretty much said that there wont be any after affects pysically. Its one episode and done on that front.

Well, that sucks. I often wonder why they constantly do crazy things to Sam but neglect to show those things having any lasting impact on Sam. I mean, what's the point?

  21. Sadly, you're probably right. Oh well.

  22. There will not be any disappointed Sam fans Tvmonkey, Jared does an awesome job with Sam's emotion. The only ones that will be disappointed will be the Castiel fans, there won't be much interaction with Dean and Cas when Gadreel comes into the picture. Don't know why you hate Sam so much, when there are a lot more who loves him.

Well at least they will work with each other, although Dean on a case with Crowley this episode.
In a way we did see Sam and his some sort of power. Even though Gadreel was in and what about the trials?. It could always be a possibility there may be something later on.

  24. Introverted maybe, not not noncommunicative. Going back to season 1, he'd get quiet when it came to things related to his psychic visions, but when it came to confronting Dean or John about something, he was the most verbal of the three.

  25. "I would expect them to be working with each other but gradually be working things out."

Apparently you expect right, there's this interview w/ Jared at eonline saying they're still not 100% as of filming, I just hope it's not another S8-first-half w/ constant tension and fight.
