This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

ReplyDeleteI dvr'd it. Wanted to see how it premiered before I gave it the chance. Heck SVU is way up too...Was there a preemption?
Actually, it was because of the Benson saga storyline. NBC marketed the heck out of SVU. I doubt there was any preemption.
ReplyDeleteThat's not enormously high for Chicago PD, but it is higher than Ironside. It's also higher than NBC's drama average (according to http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/12/rating-analysis-state-of-fox-and-nbc.html) and higher than Chicago Fire's premiere. SVU is probably up due to The Beast returning.

ReplyDeleteWell SVU can only milk the "Save Benson" saga so much. We saw how sharply the ratings dropped after the season premier. Plus, it didn't have CM or anything on FOX. Next week will be a big test for SVU (AI/CM), CPD (CSI/DD, which will crush everything in its wake).

Chicago PD did decent - but it's not a great start ! It had no competition and SVU was hyped because of Save Benson. We have to wait Til next week.

ReplyDeleteit didnt really have big competition. But next week we will see if the ratings hold up. With American Idol, Arrow, CSI and Criminal Minds returning it could take a hit. Oh and Suburgatory is coming back also at 8:30 :)

Tvbythenumbers reports that Nbc(Louisville) and Cw(Birmingham, San Antonio and St. Louis) were preempted so the results may change. I hope Chicago PD will not lose too much on the finals.

ReplyDeleteLet's just hope this is one of those cases where the shows do not adjust down in the finals; it has been so for TGW and The Mentalist when they are preempted, so... there's hope, but we'll have to wait for the finals anyway
ReplyDeleteA 1.6 is pretty good considering it has done mostly 1.4s; also 1.6 is the around the avarage for NBC, so if it keeps it or even goes higher (to 1.7) season 3 is a sure deal
ReplyDeleteI think with the cbs lineup it's a matter of delays most of the time, not so much preemptions. Anyway, TVD has once adjusted up when preempted (which means the program for which it was programmed scored worst than TVD did). That is the best example that is not definitive. However, I am not holding much hope, we'll see. Even if it is a 1.5 I won't be too unhappy.

I didn't use to pay this much attention to ratings and scheduling in the past so I am not sure but my impression is that it wasn't like this in the pre-Paul Lee years. I am convinced the man is actively trying to burn ABC to the ground
ReplyDeleteAny female skewing show will be down in the 8 PM slot next week against Idol. Idol isn't the powerhouse it once was but is still able to get low 3s and high 2s on Wednesdays. And since CBS will be in repeats i think Idol will be dominating the 8 PM hour. And no i don't think Revolution will lose much viewers to Suburgatory, but it might be hit harder by AI. This will be Revolutions first time facing American Idol, while the other two ABC comedies have already faced it. I think this will be a true test for Revolution. And Chicago PD will face CSI and Nashville for the first time next week so we will see how that goes also.

As am I. Yes, i will give Paul lee credit that he helped nurture Scandal into what it is today. But that's it. Virtually every other decision he has made has been a clusterfuck perfect storm. Look no further that last season's award show fiasco. If that's not self sabotage, I don't know what is.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I am fairly confident that you are right and that Revolution will be hurt by facing Idol next week. By the way, I think that's saying that Idol will be pulling 3s for the premiere is an understatement. The show opened with a 6 last year and that was after finishing the previous Wednesday season with a 4.5. If there is a similar increase it will be doing a 4 this year, and I expect even higher to be honest.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, I do think that Revolution's skew may play in its favor. The show is old-skewing, which makes it a bit more resilient (those viewers tend to be less fickle) and also, Idol tends to go for the 18-34s the most, not so much the older ones, which could indicate less crossed audience.
I do fear for Suburgatory though. I absolutely hate Wednesday ratings, I am too nervous about Revolution and used to be about the tomorrow people (sadly, I've since then accepted that it will be cancelled at the end of the season). Now I will also have to worry about my beloved Suburgatory. It's very stressful.
