Monday 1/20/14 Metered Market Ratings
ABC Wins; Weak Return for “Hollywood Game Night” on NBC

Household
Rating/Share
ABC 5.6/ 9
CBS 5.2/ 8
Fox 4.4/ 7
NBC 3.9/ 6
CW 0.8/ 1

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Monday 1/21/13:
NBC: +11, ABC: – 3, CW: -11, CBS: -24, Fox: -28

—–

-Winners:
“The Bachelor” (ABC), “How I Met Your Mother” (CBS), “2 Broke Girls” (CBS), “Mike & Molly” (CBS), “Mom” (CBS), “The Blacklist” (NBC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Hollywood Game Night” (NBC), “Hart of Dixie” (CW), “Beauty and the Beast” (CW) “Intelligence” (CBS)

—–

-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC opened the week on a winning overnight note care of two-hours of “The Bachelor” (5.4 rating/8 share from 8-10 p.m.) and “Castle,” which won the 10 p.m. hour with 5.8/ 9. But competing “The Blacklist” on NBC with a 5.6/ 9 owns the time period in all the key demos. Given the recent controversial remarks made by Juan Pablo Galavis, this is a huge relief for ABC.

In season-premiere news, two episodes of “Hollywood Game Night” on NBC, hosted by Jane Lynch, finished fourth in the 8-10 p.m. block with a 3.1/ 5 from 8-9 p.m. and a 2.9/ 4 from 9-10 p.m. As a temporary fill-in for “The Voice,” NBC is counting the days, no doubt, until the singing competition returns. But the good news was the double-digit growth for “The Blacklist” at 10 p.m.

CBS was on par with typical overnight Monday levels, which is a positive for the 8-10 p.m. block and a negative for week three of drama “Intelligence.” Soon-to-conclude “How I Met Your Mother” opened with a dominant 5.9/ 9 at 8 p.m., followed by No. 1 time period finishes as well for “2 Broke Girls” (5.8/ 9), “Mike & Molly” (6.1/ 9) and “Mom” (5.6/ 8) from 8:30-10 p.m. Retention of 92 percent for improved “Mom” out of “Mike & Molly” all but guarantees a renewal for next season. Episode three of “Intelligence,” meanwhile, dipped to a third-place 4.0/ 7 at 10 p.m., which was 11 percent below the 4.5/ 7 one week earlier.

In season-finale news, two-hours of “Sleepy Hollow” on Fox, which lost some steam as the first season progressed, scored a 4.4/ 7 from 8-10 p.m. Demographically, the results should be respectable. And The CW capped off the night with its low-rated combination of dramas “Hart of Dixie” (#5: 1.0/ 2) and “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 0.7/ 1).

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). 1. But the good news was the double-digit growth for “The Blacklist” at 10 p.m.

    YAY!!

    ReplyDelete
  2. Poor intelligence again.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Sleep Hollow lost steam over the season, it didn't rise that much on HH ratings, but the improvement on A18-49 may be better than we expected based only on the HHs.

Intelligence is dead and The Blacklist is a self starter, it'll probabl anchor NBC Thursday, even if the buy Thursday Night Football (which is only 6-8 games and would probably be headed to NBC Sports).

    ReplyDelete
  4. I think SH will come in the demos with about a 2.3-2.5. Respectable indeed.

Intelligence is not long for this world. I wonder if CBS will just outright cancel before it goes any longer.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Sleepy Hollow was 4.2 in the overnights last week so it is up in the overnights this week, I know they are meaningless but it helps!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Question: will CBS pull Intelligence off the schedule?

Because almost every drama they have can pull the same ratings on repeats and Intelligence ratings reached Do No Harm/The Assets level of awfulness but it's only january and they only have Reckless on the bench (also, Undercover Boss ends on march 14th, so I think they are going to premiere Reckless on fridays at 8 PM after the NCAA Basktball championship ends.

    ReplyDelete
  7. i reckon they will air all 14 episodes of it , they aired 15 episodes of hostages and that was doing just as bad.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Looks like The Blacklist can stay on its own :)
I hope Sleepy Hollow rose to 2.4-2.5.

So far, I think The Blacklist, The Originals and Sleepy Hollow are the only broadcast newcomers that are doing good. Sleepy's first season is over, now I hope The Blacklist and The Originals will be able to have good ratings until may, so they'll be considered official hits on their networks ^^

I feel bad for Intelligence u_u I think its cast is amazing, unfortunately a big part of Cbs audience didn't give it more than one chance.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I really hope The Blacklist rose from last week.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Maybe, the still have Reckless left as a midseason replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Good for the Blacklist. I can see NBC using this to anchor another night (possibly Thursday) next year. Poor Intelligence can't catch a break. Too bad because it's a decent show. Sleepy Hollow will be respectable as always in the demo I'd guess. Good on em, that finale deserves every rating point it gets.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hollywood Game Night will stick around because what matters is profit, and HGN is very cheap to produce, so it doesn't need big ratings to make money. It will basically be used as a handy entertainment program to fill holes in NBC's schedule over the summer and any other places it's needed.

    ReplyDelete
  13. CBS should swap TM with Intelligence ASAP. Heck, if a non-regularly scheduled CM (R) could pull similar numbers in the 10PM Sunday slot against the end of football/TF, ANY of CBS' procedurals could do better. I'm sure this is a huge disappointment for the network. Clearly, the audience has rejected the show based on strength of CBS comedy line-up.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Sounds bad for Castle... :(

    ReplyDelete
  15. Maybe they will, they still have Reckless to air and a couple of comedies. Then again they aired all episodes of Hostages even with the low ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Looks bad for HoD.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Intelligence reaching the same lvls Hostages i hope for the ones that liked the show the air the remaining episodes like they did with Hostages....
The Blacklist of course is even with last week without The Voice but still doing good on his own...

    ReplyDelete
  18. 2.3 isn't bad for SH, given that it was a very long episode. I expect it will jump slightly tomorrow, probably to a 2.4

    ReplyDelete
  19. So, The Blacklist dropped two tenths from last week.
I think we were too quick to label it as somewhat independent from The Voice.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Aren't some of the final ratings being delayed due to it being the Martin Luther King holiday in the states? I swaer America has WAY too many holidays :P

    ReplyDelete
  21. Most of NBC's Drama's that have aired after The Voice that air without it usually fall much, much quicker.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes Castle is up in demo :D

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm aware of it, but even so, it shows that the Blacklist is lead-in dependent, although not to the same degree of Revolution and Smash.
It has dropped almost a full-tenth of a point since the last airing outside of The Voice (Where it notched a 3.2, if I recall correctly) and next week will likely drop even more. , It's still respectable by all accounts, but is not the smash that NBC was hoping for given the post-The Voice's ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh no, Mom did a 1.9...
I had so much hope because of last week. :(

    ReplyDelete
  25. I realize that, but still, TBL still isn't the hit NBC was hoping for given the retention it got after airing post-The Voice.
A 2.3 at 10 p.m. is still very good but it wasn't the sort of smash NBC likely hoped. it shows that the show depends on The Voice. And it won't help matters worse than it will likely go down next week. It has already lost nearly a full tenths from the last airing after the Voice.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yes, and usually, the final ratings' are posted on the same day just much later in the day.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Actually it is a hit, for NBC anyway no matter the time slot

    ReplyDelete
  28. Season high for BATB.

It sems like winning online polls helps the ratings /ironic

    ReplyDelete
  29. Plus, a lot of other dramas would be lucky to get above a 2.0 with a significant lead-in especially on NBC.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Intelligence is now bear-food. CHOW CHOW CHOW MEIN!

    ReplyDelete

  32. But not THE hit NBC was expecting for from the retention after The Voice.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Revolution dropped more than that when it returned WITH The Voice in the second week, so The Blacklist is doing great.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It is a hit. How do you know what NBC was expecting? I am sure NBC has very low expectations these days.

    ReplyDelete
  35. cw was pre-empted in Chicago

    ReplyDelete
  36. Great for HIMYM. The consistency of this show is amazing.
Good for The Blacklist, I was hoping it would rise, but seeing that Revolution got a 2.2 for it's second return episode WITH The Voice as lead-in, The Blacklist is doing great.
Disappointed that Mom went below 2.0 again, but I still think it will get renewed.
Hostages is gone, I wonder when CBS will pull it from schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Haven't seen it!
English subs haven't been added on Addic7ed yet :(

    ReplyDelete
  38. They probably got their hopes up when The Blacklist was retaining constant 3.0's and 3.1's, out of The Voice regardless of how much the lead-in dropped. Many people thought that the Blacklist wasn't as much lead-in dependent as others shows have been, but it, clearly, is. I'm not sure the show is strong enough to anchor Thursday's, especially considering that ABC might be thinking of moving Scandal to anchor the night.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Not that we know how healthy Scandal truly is, considering it has never aired out of Grey's.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You should, it was hilarious and touching.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Seriously, a show that can pull 2s is a hit for NBC, considering the rest of their shows.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well I don't think I'll be able to get all the jokes without English subs:(

    ReplyDelete
  43. Note: The CW was preempted in
Chicago for basketball. Ratings for the CW may be inflated and subject
to more than the typical adjustment in the finals.

    ReplyDelete
  44. One also have to wait and see how Blacklist does in March after the DST change. I find it hard comparing episodes airing in January and March.

    ReplyDelete
  45. So it seems all of the "The last half hour will BLOW YOUR MIND" hype for Sleepy Hollow had an effect.

    ReplyDelete
  46. you mean Intelligence.... im hoping that mom will rise it just hasnt found it`s audience it goes up one week and low the other... HIMYM ave a faithfull audience and a lot people is looking for that finale im wondering how the momday numbers will be once the show is over

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yeah, I do mean Intelligence. I hope Mom adjusts up, too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Didn't get Originals already the renewed or was it not official? I just get confused with all of that XP Just knew that they will tell in may the destine of HoD, TTP, BB, CD and the new CW shows in CW.

    ReplyDelete
  49. oh i thought it had 14 episodes my bad , i didn't know either hostages was a limited series now that makes me think that they will probably pull it from the schedule which would be a shame as its a decent show.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The Originlas didn't get renewed, it got a full season pick up.

    ReplyDelete
  51. No, it isn't official, but so far The Originals is safe :) still it's too soon for a renewal decision.
The Vampire Diaries, Arrow and Supernatural are safe and Hart of Dixie, too,
because it's on its third season, Mark Pedowitz said good things about it at TCA and
Cw will move it to friday but will also give it the support of the good performer
    Whose line is it anyway.
I think Reign, The Tomorrow People, Star-Crossed and The 100 will 'fight'
for the 2 extra renewals Cw may give.
Our loved Beauty and The Beast has no chance, despite the 2 wins on
People's Choice Awards (Super Fun Night won, too, but it will not save it)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hostages didn't have 22 episodes tough and airing a 14 episode long season with meh but at least steady ratings is still better than going into unknown deeps with a new drama

    ReplyDelete
  53. Guess I should have waited before starting to watch Intelligence. Only a miracle can save it now...

    ReplyDelete
  54. TO didn't get a renewal...yet. It'll come tough as long as the ratings don't dip down to Reign or TTP level.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Just watched it, it wasn't the funniest episode but the end was just... touching as you said earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  56. It is still a hit regardless and 2.3 is healthy IMO, especially when considering its 1.5 lead-in this week. I think it would've done better had it had a 2.0-something lead-in and doesn't need as strong lead-in as the Voice to succeed. Also, it will rise again when the Voice returns.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think the CW will probably announce the renewal of TVD, Arrow, SPN, and the Originals next month.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I thought the same. Usually I wait for a few episodes before I start a new show, but I thought this one would have good ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  59. How about 2 Broke Girls having the highest viewership of the night?! Very impressive!

    ReplyDelete
  60. The Voice will make any show look good after it. A 2.3 for NBC is like a 3.0 or above for CBS. It's great. I'm sure they're fine with it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I usually wait to see if a show gets renewed for a second season before I start watching. I watched the Intelligence pilot, but haven't seen it since. I thought it would get good ratings. Too bad that isn't happening.

    ReplyDelete
  62. People said "Beauty and the Beast" had no chance last season and it was renewed. I refuse to give up hope. Nielsen ratings I admit are not good but it's got such a huge following that can't be ignored. The PCA wins give really good promotion for the network. Online viewings come into play next season and I'm sure The CW could make more advertising revenue from that, I have everything crossed that The Network will keep BATB.

    ReplyDelete
  63. #BATB the best show!!!!
