  1. great ep, I've had a feeling that Rebecca had an agenda all her own for a few eps, but glad that they finally settled it but wish that they hadn't killed off Hagan, as I love Mark Sheppard and wouldn't mind him reappearing in the future...

  2. Ya that was... extremely predictable. Even though I like this reason for the Peter/Neal divide, it is still annoying that 5 seasons in and we're still getting a rift between the two of them. Although I do side with Peter more as Neal has been pretty annoying this season, not to mention he's been blind to the completely obvious evilness of Red (whose name I can never remember). Red being bad was something we've all been saying all season, at least now she might be an interesting character.

  3. OK, add the very uncharacteristic reason for Peter's turn on Neal just to have drama to the fact that this episode was very predictable, this was an episode that was neither good or bad.

  4. Damn it, damn it, damn it!

  5. I'm inclined to agree. A rift every now and then is fine for the sake of drama and intrigue but they are becoming less interesting and more frustrating as a duo as they keep failing to trust each other.

  6. Even though I saw it coming, it was a great ep. Poor Neal. He really got an all around emotional whump this time around.

  7. Really, it was? Because I mostly remember fans discussing Rebecca's value as love interest. I think if you are not part of the fandom, where is always someone who figures it out early, you might have been more surprised.
And Neal has always been very blind when it comes to a pretty woman. It's very much in character for him.

  8. Wow that was unbelievable. I saw Rebecca being the bad guy, but everything else was a surprise.
    Amazing episode.

  9. I agree too. For me this season has been so frustrating. I can t enjoy all the drama bc the characters are so damn unlikeble. So, after 5 seasons of growing personal relationships between the characters now everyone thinks Neal is just a criminal who can t help himself and is holding Peter back? That whole peter jones talk was so frustrating and annoying. I love drama and I like the boys at odds from time to time but not for dumb reasons. Peter"s reaction is overblown and ridiculos by this point. I hope they will redeam the character and not just ignore all that has been said and move on. That s what they usually do, build this big arc and then resolve it in the first 10 min of an episode.

  10. There was a bit of discussing of Rebecca's value as a love interest on here, but I remember more people talking about how they don't trust her, how shady she is, and how they were guessing she was working with Hagen the whole time.

That's fine if you were surprised by it. But as far as surprise twists go, this one was pretty easy to see coming.

  11. I wasn't...but the last episodes, I felt that I was the only one who kept repeating that Rebecca most likely killed Siegel, while everyone else was either distracted by the love interest angle or thought that Hagen was the killer and she was just working for him. I have read not one single comment from anyone but me that she might be the killer - which is why I doubt that this was really that easy to see coming. Which leads me to the guess that beside me, there might be a couple of other people on other boards who reached the same conclusion, and the "I saw it coming" is more "I read the theory somewhere".
And I honestly did not see Hagen getting killed coming. Not at this point of the story.

  12. I never trusted Rebeca and expected her to be evil but still the episode was awesome and when Hagen was shot and they found cooper 3 and the surveillance files and the creepy photos of Rebeca I was like :O :O :O :O

  14. I expected Rebecca being the bad guy and the fake kidnapping was so obvious but I was really surprised that they killed Hagen! I'm guessing Rebecca cleaned his apartment so maybe she has the footage to blackmail Neal now? I hope not. I'm sick and tired of Neal being blackmailed into everything. And I was annoyed too by the whole Peter/Jones conversation about Neal. It's like 5 seasons of character development have gone out the window. I mean a season ago Peter, Neal and Elizabeth were like family and now this? I don't see how they're gonna salvage it. I hope the writing improves, because it's like watching a different show. Only Mozzie is true to his character. Season 5 has been a disappointment so far!

  15. I don't know about spoilertv's forum, but I know in the comments of the what did you think of each weeks episode post people were suspicious of her. I didn't think of her killing Siegel, I only thought her working with/using Hagen was obvious.

But I'm with you in that I didn't expect Hagen to die here. Maybe in the finale, but not here.

  16. yes, yes, yes...that's exactly how I feel about the show. I actually like the situation they are in now, with the whole Rebeca thing. I'm curious to see who she is and what her end game is but I can't fully enjoy all the drama bc of Peter's attitude. The bromance is gone, I thought Clinton and Diana for all of their teasing respected Neal and thought of him as a friend but apparently after 5 seasons they all still think of Neal as a criminal who is holding the magnificent Peter back. I feel like a lot of damage has been done to their relationship and for it to be back to what it was I would like for Peter to apologize and really mean it but I expect the writers to do what they always do and that is to brush it off in the first 5 min of an episode.

  17. I hate to say it but since Jeff Eastin has two shows going at USA, he may be vesting more thought into Graceland (which I found boring and slow) than into White Collar. WC to me was much better til Graceland came along. No offense against Mr. Eastin.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, unfortunately that usually happens when the creator has more than one shows running. I haven't watched Graceland and I don't think I will.
If only we could return to the Season 3 and 4 standards. For me those were the best seasons and it was not because of the cases or the various things they pulled to impress us, it was the character development. Despite the mess they were always in, Peter and Neal always made sense and so did everyone around them. I mean what do they think we're watching for? Forgeries and dinosaur eggs? Sure they're fun. But in the end it's all about Neal and Peter. Peter went through hell to prove to Kramer that Neal is not just another criminal and now he's the one who needs convincing? As much fun as it is having Peter be suspicious of Neal, it's not Season 1 and 2 anymore. We're 5 seasons in. Neal had made tons of progress and this season it's like he went back to season 1, saying he stole something just because it was there. If we're gonna decide that Neal is a criminal who just wants to keep stealing for the rest of his life, we might as well throw him back to jail and be done with him. I find it difficult, though, to accept that this is the same Neal who wanted to stop that kid from becoming a criminal in 3x06 "Scott Free".

  19. I disagree. I like season 5 so far way better than season 3 (which had a strong arc but terrible stand along episodes) and season 4 (which had some great stand-alones but a terrible arc). Especially the first four episodes were finally like the White Collar I missed for so long, and the last two episodes hurt, but I look forward to the pay off. The episodes in-between were a little bit on the wonky side, but all in all, I am very satisfied. The writing this season was way tighter than what we got beforehand.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Perfectly put. As far as Graceland is concerned I watched the first 2 episodes, didn t hold my interest for more. Is there a new episode of WC next week or are they taking a break again?

    ReplyDelete
  21. So it wasn't THAT predictable - after all, she slipped under your radar as potential murder suspect. And you didn't expect Hagen dying.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I didn't expect those, but they weren't really surprising either given my distrust of her.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I wonder if the brush Neal used and left fingerprints on at Hagen's place will come into play. For a while I expected Hagen to frame Neal for the forgery. If that was what he was doing, maybe Rebecca killed Hagen because she wanted to protect Neal. Because if Neal's in jail, he can't tell her what he nearly told her at his place about the code.

  24. I gotta say season 3 was my favorite as a whole, especially the way it climaxed in the season finale. I've got to agree that the season 4 arc was not the best but I still liked it. This season's arc is not bad. The blackmail thing was interesting and I liked the whole deal with the devil aspect of it. I even liked Rebecca despite being a big Sara fan. If only the "twist" wasn't so predictable. My point is, the problem for me is the way they've written Neal and Peter this season. Their dynamic seems a little off.

  25. We're supposed to have a new episode next week but considering we don't have a promo maybe that will change. It's actually weird that we don't have a promo. Usually we do even if the episode is months away.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It had a great climax, but Season 3 also had some of the worst episodes of the whole show (especially Pulling strings, but also Scott Free).
I think it is realistic...honestly, I am somewhat glad that Neal is finally telling Peter what he should have told him the last seasons, too, that the system Peter believes in doesn't work and let especially Neal down again and again. It was high time that Neal tells him some hard truths - I have been waiting for this since forever.
I don't think it was THAT predictable, because I don't think that many expected her to be more than just someone who works for Hagen, and I certainly didn't expect him getting shot. And, in a way, if there had been no signs pointing to Rebecca at all, it would have been even worse. A good twist requires that there is at least a chance for the audience to figure it out beforehand.

  27. On tumblr someone has promo: http://uninhabited-paradise.tumblr.com/post/72928406094/white-collar-shot-through-the-heart-promo-mf

  28. I agree with the things Neal told Peter in this episode. There was no legal way for Peter to keep his job after what had happened, so his beloved system absolutely failed him and I was kind of mad at him that he couldn't get off his high horse and realize that. Peter knows that sometimes you have to work around the system. He has done that many times in the past, especially with the music box, but when Neal does it, he just can't accept it. Also, that scene where Peter says Neal is just gonna be someone else's problem really annoyed me. Plus, I think Elizabeth should stick up for him, more than that one mention in the previous episode. She told Neal to do whatever it took to get Peter cleared.

As far as the twist is concerned, it just bothered me that I knew from the beginning that there was no kidnapping and because of that the whole thing lacked tension. There was never any danger and we watched Neal worry and work over something that didn't exist. Add to that the scene where Rebecca runs "desperately" to find Neal, well you get my point. I'm glad, though, that she is the bad guy and working for herself(or for someone else we don't know) since I just expected her to be one of Hagen's minions. Personally I wanted her to be Sara's long lost sister, but that trailer really confused me and I doubt that's gonna happen.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Don't remind me of the lost sister. Worst character motivation ever.
El does stick up for Neal, though, but I think she also wants Peter on a safe position in Washington. Which is understandable.
I miss Diana...she is the only one who called Peter out on his hypocrisy in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  30. When did Diana do that? All I remember from her is worshiping Peter like the greatest FBI agent there is. I'm not disagreeing with you I just don t remember an instance where she wasn t Peter's cheerleader.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree. I don't think Diana would be on Neal's side any more than Jones is. To be honest if you had asked me a season ago I would have expected a better and friendlier reaction from Jones, but apparently everyone is on identity crisis mode this season.

swanpride now that you mentioned Washington I can't see how Peter is gonna stay in New York without his relationship with Neal getting worse. I still hope whatever happens has nothing to do with Neal because I honestly don't see how much more their friendship, (whatever is left) can take.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh my gosh, I totally agree about Pulling Strings. I'm pretty sure the point of that episode was to get Neal and Sara's ex to fight over her....did not like it all.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah really what the heck is up with Jones's "Stay at your desk" and "I don't like loose ends with Caffrey". In season 3, he's the one who told Melissa from DC that he's enjoyed working with Neal all this time.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Even though Rebecca being evil was predictable, I personally did not expect Hagen to get shot. I don't know why so many people are hating on Neal and Peter's drift; I feel like that's what makes the show interesting. Sure, I love watching Neal and Peter solve crimes together, because they're both the smartest guys in the room, but you know what was even better? Watching Neal commit crimes (replacing the Degas etc) and Peter trying to figure out what he's up to. It's an interesting character dynamic. Plus, Peter and Neal's only major drift in Season 4 was when Neal's father went into hiding and Neal blamed Peter...a lot of you are acting like they had a lot of significant drifts in season 4 lol

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thank you! The promo looks awesome. Is it bad that I want Neal to get badly hurt so that Peter can eat his words? I highly doubt he would be better off without Neal.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks to Dovile for the promo that looks great by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  37. There was so much not to like about it...Neal and Peter being apart for nearly the whole episode, recon number 6 for Sara's backstory, this strange comedy-like setting in Peter's home....nothing about it worked.

    ReplyDelete
  38. On the top of my mind in "What happens in Burma"...she tells Peter off that he could have chained Neal to the desk if he really wanted to, but he didn't because he doesn't like diplomats and knows that the guy who supposedly stole the ruby is innocent.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The funny thing is that so many people also say that they liked season three so much better...but back then, Neal and Peter weren't on the same page for nearly the whole season.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I, for one, liked season 3 because everything about their reactions to everything happening made sense and the characters stayed true to themselves. This season I just don't like the writing. I'm not saying they should be on the same page. I like it when there's conflict between them because I'm sadistic like that with my characters. What I don't like is writing off all the progress they made as friends and people 5 seasons now. The way Peter is written, he comes off as angry and bitter. That's all there is to him in the last episodes. This episode was even worse in terms of that, with Peter saying Neal will be someone else's problem, that working with him was a mistake and essentially saying that he regretted ever making the whole deal. If you had asked me a few episodes ago I would have sworn Peter would never say that about Neal and I would be basing it on their relationship so far. Plus, I can't justify it when Peter knows that Neal did what he did to save him. If it was Neal reverting to his old ways because he couldn't resist himself I'd get it, but now, considering all the blackmail Neal had to put up with, Peter just comes off ungrateful. And it's not like Neal had anything to do with what happened to Peter. He's not responsible for his father's actions.

Also in my opinion writing Peter that way makes him also seep a bit hypocritical. In season 2 Peter had no problems working outside the system he loves so much. So many of the things he did along with Diana and Jones were unsanctioned. He even had Diana steal the music box. I get why he did it. Because he needed to. The same goes for this case. It's funny that the illegality of it bothers him now and not then. And that's my point. Peter is not like that. At least I didn't think he was. And that's why I don't like the writing. It's like he's going through an identity crisis.

Anyway, that's just an opinion. Some enjoy these episodes more, some less. Not saying everyone should view it as I do.

    ReplyDelete
  41. To me, it makes sense, because Peter was always a hypocrite (he went around the system in the third episode of the show and still kept preaching about the right and the wrong way) and always defining himself over his self-image as straight-laced FBI man. There had to be a breaking point....I just hope that he will recognize that he lied to himself all the time before the season is over.
