  1. It's stupid to put a pilot against the Golden Globes, who the hell thought it was a good idea? or they justhate the product already? I don't know.

  2. I thought it was a pretty decent start. The storytelling of the show is similar to the wire in the sense that the season plays out like a novel. It starts out slowly the first few episodes and then really gets you hooked half way throuhgh. McConaughey and harrelson both did a great job

  3. Why hello, Senator Obviously-the-Bad-Guy.

  4. Great, one of the best pilots that I've seen in a while! The cinematography and acting instantly got me engaged in the story.

  5. I really didn't like it at all.... was like the leads really didn't want to be there any more than I want to watch it again.

  6. Wow, what a phenomenal premiere!

The murder scenes were definitely Hannibalesque which I absolutely loved. Those types of murder scenes are just mesmerizing.

I was immediately engrossed in the acting and the visuals right from the beginning. Matthew McConaughey will definitely get an award for his performance in this show. He was just fantastic.

I can't wait till we get some answers on why Marty and Rust drifted apart over the years and what happened to Rust's daughter.

This show is definitely not for people with a short attention span but if they can hold it out till the end, the result will be amazing. I'm officially hooked.

  7. Totally agree, it's a great show. I've been lucky enough to see the first 3 episodes and they get better and better.

  8. Yep, I agree - awesome pilot. The characters were interesting from the start, the dialog brilliant, the music was beautiful and the (hannibal) murder was interesting.
It was a little slow, but it doesn´t bother me. Matthew McConaughey was amazing as Rust.

  9. I'm definitely drawn into this straight away, I'm guessing that the present day detectives suspect Rust of being the killer and yes there is something strange about him (great performance by Matthew McConaughey) but I think that twist would be way too easy.

  10. The opening sequence was superb, a little lengthy but superb nonetheless. Rust's view on humanity was insanely depressing and I like his nickname The Taxman. Acting, writing and cinematography were excellent and I like the narrative structure with a possible copycat on the loose in the present. It's really gonna be interesting seeing the gaps being filled over the next seven episodes.
Also, am I the only one who was oblivious of the fact that this is meant as an anthology series with a new story and cast each season? I'm bummed Matthew and Woody won't be returning.

  11. I also think that present day cop might think Rust is the killer, but I don't think he is.. My guess is Marty is the killer or a random person.

  12. Well it wasn't stupid after all.... you're wrong brother

  13. Matthew is sure chewing the scenery in this show! Doesn't mean I didn't like it, but the present day interview with him made me laugh.

  14. why am I wrong? I think a lot more people would have watched it if it had been on another time slot or day.

  15. Nice (bit depressing) Pilot! Wow MM is SO skinny, but it plays into everything SO nicely (on verge of "death"). Kind of reminds me of Hannibal a tad, except way more rural...

So on one hand it seems like MM's character either have visions because he has a gift, despite all of his alleged anti-existence beliefs or they are hallucinations and memory from "blacking out", because he's the killer...

One he other hand I find WH's character too normal for normal.

Then there's The Senitor and Religious figurehead...

Looking forward to see where it goes! Much better than I expected.

  16. Just watched the DVRed pilot and I agree with you 100%.
Since I have the impression that MArty is having na affair with Alexandra Dadario's character, I qouldn't be surprised if the big fallout between Marty and Rust was that Rust had an affair with Maggie. Maggie's aware that her husband hasn't been much at home lately and the ristualistic murder had occurred the day before. Rusty gets along with Maggie and she seems to like him and is surprised and disappointed that her husband knows nothing about his partner. Rusty also seems to notice something fishy when Dadario's character comes asking for Marty.

  17. I thought that at first too, but now I think they suffered a lot of pressure (media+governor+reverend+church, etc) in 1995 to pin the murder on someone and Rust wasn't convinced that the convicted fellow was the real perp. Maybe they've heard that Rust is a lunatic and are skeptical but must listen to him since he was the one person that believed that the killer was still out there.
I admit that there are things (I've only watched the pilot, still catching up on DVR) poiting in Rust's directions (obsessed about sexually oriented murders - maybe due to what happened to his daughter, not sleeping and maybe delirious, the murder happened on his dead daughter's birthday, sthortly thereafter he started drinking again, insisted on checking the Fontenot girl and her uncle, which lead to the find of the second creepy piramid thingie years after she went missing, etc), but I agree it would be na easy and predictable twist that wouldn't fit the sofisticated writting we've seen so far.

  18. I agree with you in every aspect. I was specially blown away by the opening sequence... movie worthy.
I also didn't really understand the concept of the series. I had thought it was a miniseries and I am also sad that they (MM and WH) won't return next season. Apparently the two present-day detectives will be the main characters on the second season, right?

  19. I don't think that WH character is such a normal guy. For starters, I believe he has na affair with the much younger character played by Alexandra Dadario (Rusty also seems to notice something fishy when Dadario's character comes asking for Marty), so I believe that the big fallout between Marty and Rust was that Rust had an affair with Maggie (later on of course). Maggie's aware that her husband hasn't been much at home lately and the ristualistic murder had occurred the day before (so where was he before that?). Rusty got along with Maggie and she seemed to like and even understand him and is surprised and disappointed that her husband knows nothing about his partner. A neglected cheated on wife and a depressed divorced cop with a negative outlook on life could be the recipe for an emotionally devastating affair.

  20. I don't know who it will be, I just know it won't MM and WH.

  21. Well I guess what I meant was he was trying hard to sell himself as "the normal guy", granted 70% of married men have admitted to cheating. He tries to come off as a family man, Christian, easy-going, average, despite his cheating heart.

"so I believe that the big fallout between Marty and Rust was that Rust had an affair with Maggie"

Totally agree and don't dispute that all, but I also think it's possible that that could also reflect the murder cases from past to present as well, as sleeping with someone's partner might also be a signature of someone trying to taunt someone else, should either one of them turn out to also be the killer!

  22. a) Now I get what you meant by normal guy.
    b) I like your ideas!!! I loooove a good twist and I bet that this show can deliver it.
    c) I'm also appreciative of the fact that the show is set in rural Louisiana, since we don't usually get that kind of look/photography on series.

  23. Obviously they could both turn out not to be the killer either and like you said, their falling out might just be the affair and now the fact that the killer is still out there (or a copy-cat killer exists), could be the thing that brings them together too!

I haven't seen the second episode either. (I'm hoping to catch it tomorrow)
Ya!!The ruralness really adds an interesting element to the series. It makes everything seem strange and that makes it more unpredictable and also makes me think that it will be incredibly "twisty" XD

  24. I didn't know that either. (Haven't really been following all the interviews and stuff). That's a shame, but depending on how it all turns over (and who is cast for the second season) could still be an alright thing.
