    Best episode this season :) I loved it! So much fun and Johnlock moments. But at the very end, when he mentioned 'his last vow'.... i don't know... that didn't sound very good...

    I can't believe that I just watched one hour of Sherlock making a wedding speech...and that I enjoyed every second of it.
    But I fear, after all the warm and fuzzy feelings, next episode will HURT. I fear we will loose Mary (and the baby), and I really want to keep her....

    I think by the time His Last Vow comes around we'll be thanking moffat and gatnis for the humor and lighterness of these previous two episodes. Oh dear as tumblr says, the feels. :(

    Funniest line: Sherlock "It took him years to confide [his middle name] to me." John (in flashback) :"That's my birth certificate." Only Sherlock.


    Other great lines: Sherlock : "High functioning sociopath...with your number." Evil grin.
    Sherlock "In fairness, murder is a lot quicker [than marriage]."


    I also loved the flashbacks of the ex and the little psycho-in-making and the Irene/Mycroft cameos. The knife in the belt was amazing - but wouldn't a person feel something going into their side? I guess if the belt was tight enough.... On a completely different note, I wished we had gotten to see Sherlock DANCE!

    Brilliant and hillarious episode!! Really glad we got a glimpse of Lara Pulver again. I wasn't expecting her to make an appearance,even if it was in Sherlock's mind...

    …Anyone who says they didn't tear up during Sherlock's speech, is lying. Loved every bit of it. Sherlock wondering if he did the speech correctly because everyone was crying was very cute.

    There is no feeling in the world like watching an episode of Sherlock for the first time... and then have that feeling repeat itself once you watch it again. This show is beautiful.

    On a side note, as hilarious as a lighter side to Sherlock is, and it was because I laughed so hard my side hurt, I hope this was a one time thing.

    That was a glorious surprise! Kudos to Lara Pulver for showing up (naked) for 5 seconds in a non-speaking role. It was simply delightful.

    Voted poor, the show has changed a lot and become a bit of a parody of itself imo. The mysteries have taken a bit of a back seat and I find the smugness is annoying :(

    The show has gone downhill since Season 1.


    The first series was a decent balance of the classic Sherlock mystery and the new Sherlock and it was awesome, last year started to lose the classic elements of Sherlock that make it great. This year is even worse with obvious mysteries thinly veiled by too-cute-by-half cleverness and smugness.


    This episode was the very worst of Sherlock.

    I really was starting to feel alone on here as the only person who felt this way! Other places I visit and chat about the show is split about 50/50 on this season, so I was finding a bit strange that it was all very positive here, lol.


    Where has the plot gone?? It feels like the show has become a squee/tumblr gif fest character love in instead in some ways. I've even seen some people saying that Sherlock has turned into a British Sheldon, especially during the Stag night in this episode, which I can't say I entirely agree with but it feels like it's going that way.


    Cumberbatch's and Freeman's performances are the only thing that have saved this from being truly awful imo, the scripts leave a lot to be desired. Essentially the bad guy was the same as the taxi driver in Study in Pink...the guy in front of everyone that people don't see...and I don't get why Sherlock would have brought up two seemingly unconnected cases that have been unsolved in the speech anyway. It was all very lazy and relies on things like a soldier getting his palace uniform wet on the shower floor in order to have a locked door mystery.


    But, as I've said elsewhere, it seems to be going down well with the general public which I suppose is what matters the most for the production company. I just hope that there's been more going on than we're supposed to have realised, namely the Mary connection to Magnussen the blackmailer, and we get a proper send off to this season.

    I do still enjoy the show, but it is not what it used to be just 2 years ago... Maybe it never was as good as I thought it was to begin with? XD


    The performances are rocks solid like you said and it is still a fun watch, but it's no longer "must see TV" for me and has not been since Season 1 ended.


    Yeah this was less a mystery and more a stylized storytelling exercise really. We saw every clue highlighted center frame and there were no red herrings to divert our attention away from the photographer. They really need to make use of subtlety and not use proverbial neon arrows pointing to the clues like the military belt and the chef skewering his meat as blood drains etc...


    Without a real mystery element Sherlock becomes a more traditional gimmicky crime procedural where the only saving grace of the show is the characters. I do not watch shows for characters alone very often....

    As you say, it's enjoyable enough, it's just a shame that it's become less cerebral and more generically quirky. I already get that side of my Holmes fix from Elementary, and tbf they do it with a lot less smugness XD

    Because in both cases John shined? I think it was very cleverly done...and all the light-heartness we get now, is only the built up. Something dangerous is coming. An enemy who send Mary ominous messages, who seems to be able to watch other people the same way Mycroft does, and who has been lurking in the background this last two episodes. All this fun just serves to ensure that whatever happens in the third episode will hurt even more.
    Plus, the two stories they tackled so far are in canon pretty light on the mystery and very strong on the character side, too. It wouldn't have served the interest of the show to let the reunion and the wedding take second place to a case. As long as there is still enough to figure out, I am happy.

    There were plenty of red herrings...first they framed Sholto in a way that he looked like he would be the murderer and not the victim (until John mentioned the dead threats, he was top on my list), then there was the brides maid (I though it was the photographer, but when she was there during the confrontation, I began to doubt) and naturally Molly's "still not a psychopath" boyfriend.
    Did you really figure it out? I certainly didn't, apart from the victim (eventually) and the photographer.

    I honestly never suspected anyone other than the photographer. The clue like "invisible man" made me certain it was him when combined with the fact that the bloody soldier story would have been pointless without it.

    I have seen photographers referred to as invisible a few times in mysteries (cannot recall if books or movies) so it was the lock to me.

    As far as how he did it..
    I forget what order the clues came, but I knew as soon as I saw the chef pulling the skewer out of the meat, causing the meat to leak blood, that it would be important. And I already suspected that a puncture wound was the fatal wound and the source of the soldier's blood spill. Seeing the two soldiers donning their uniforms and tightening those belts was front and center to me... Release the pressure and instant blood pool.Just too obvious.

    I really was not certain the target was Sholto immediately...
    I knew he was not going not be the killer though so as it went on I knew he was too big a piece to not be important...that left the role of victim.

    I don't plan to marry anytime soon but... Damn, I want a best man speech with "whodidit" murder stories in it. Scratch that, I want Sherlock Holmes to be the best man at my wedding.

    Again same problem as with episode 1. Excellent moments but not an excellent episode. I just sat and tried to rewatch all three episodes and the only one I like as a whole episode is His Last Vow. Lovely moments in this and some excellent acting from all. Especially Mr Cumberbach durring the speach. But again not an enthrallling episode from start to end.
