THIS. This episode was everything I hoped for and more. I was SO surprised by that twist with her first boyfriend, and her singing was beautiful and just…ugh. Everything was just perfect. She and Ted deserve each other so much it’s ridiculous. I can just not say enough about this one.
I loved it! My only problem is that we had an episode completely devoted to her and still didn't find out her name. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.
The story about Max was really sad and I love that she sang for him at the end. Didn't expect Louis to propose! That came out of nowhere. Cristin's an amazing singer. And LOL at Cindy hitting on her. Love her friend, too.
Way to screw up and lose Barney there, Ted. A+ job.
The first episode that almost made me cry since the episode of "Bad News" back in Season 6. I really love how the mother finally got more screen time. I was hoping that her name was revealed tonight and that Ted and the mother would get screen time together. However, this was one of the better episode of this season.
I think that episode sealed the fact that the producers nailed the Mother casting. Cristin was absolutely breathtaking throughout the whole episode, and she actually made me tear up a bit.
I don't know what else to say, it was simply a phenomenal half-hour
It was raining on my face a lot during this ep... enjoyed all the call backs - the shellfish joke, the Naked Man and everything else. Cristin was absolutely wonderful and loved getting to see how perfect the Mother is for Ted. Would've loved to know her name but guess they're keeping it for the finale!
This was beautiful, I loved every minute of it and it made me tear up it was just amazing. I loved the backstory of The Mother, she was in love and he died and it took years for her to get over him. Cristin singing was the icing on this wonderful, beautiful episode.
Wow that was a really great episode! Practically unheard of in this season. I loved all the callbacks and seeing the Mother's perspective on a lot of things, plus getting to see some familiar faces! It reinforced that Cristin was the absolutely perfect choice for her, and I wish we had seen more of her this season!
I wanted a whole season of her, not just a few little snippets and one full episode. It reinforced that Cristin was perfect, and it reinforced that the whole wedding season was the absolutely wrong way to go this season.
My only gripe would be with Ted. Why didn't he go over there when he heard the song? It seemed to get to him. Also, if the Mother seemed kind of curious of Ted with the classroom and hearing that Ted was in love with her based on the things he picked out of Rachel Bilson's room, why didn't she try to meet him at college?
That aside, awesome episode, easily the better than anything from this season and the last one.
That was simultaneously brilliant and powerful. Not often seen in a sitcom where they're trying to reconcile 8 years of back story in 22 minutes. A standing ovation to Cristin Milioti for a solid performance.
What a delightful episode; how is this not a series of its own?! I would totally watch 9 seasons of The Mother's side of the story! Really great episode, great callbacks and interesting to see so many connections ("Once I met a guy who said his penis grants wishes" gotta be one of my favorites lines). The ending was sad and affecting. Great, great episode
It's probably more appropriate for Ted to seek out the mother the next day and compliment her then. It seems a little intrusive to peek over the partition and compliment her in the middle of the night.
Oh dear, I think I must be the only one who was underwhelmed with this episode...
I really enjoyed the story and thought it was great to give The Mother her own storyline and friends, but I think it was severely hampered by the fact that they crammed it all into one episode. I think it would've worked much better over the course of two or even three so that we as the audience could've grown more attached to The Mother's pain and acceptance.
Truly amazing. This episode was truly beautiful and a definite tear-jerker. It was great to see the Mother's journey of the last 81/2 years...and I was truly sad when Max died (her first true love). Cristin Milioti is a genuine treasure and she made me believe for the first time this season that she was the perfect choice for the role as Ted's future wife/mother of his children. Definitely one of my favorite episodes of the series. I wonder when the Mother will meet Robin.
Ok I hated this season so baddd!! BUT THIS EPISODE HAS TO BE THE BEST ONE YET!! IT WAS JUST AMAZING! Don't know if it's because we didn't see the main character alot LOL but wow the mother needs a show!!
That was such a beautiful episode, especially the ending. Quite a tear-jerker as well. They showed certain crucial moments very nicely! Cristin Milioti was fabulous.
Just wondering tho, will they meet In the present soon or not till the last episode. Because previous flash-forward showed them near each other post wedding at the train station. We better get more Flash Forward if we are not to see her post wedding.
I cried again -_- My girlfriend almost laughed at me, seeing me cry, but I don't really care.
And boy oh boy - Ted deserves that girl so much. They are actually perfectly made for each other. Good job to Bays & Thomas, they definetly delivered it!
Seriously, this episode in some way made me cry, I'm sure I'm going to rewatch this over and over again. I look forward to the german release of season 9, every episode is special, but this was absolutely my favorite and I can't wait to understand every single word they say ;D
it was such an amazing and well done episode. We got to see everything that led to the Mother meeting Ted and even saw how her and Ted interacted before they even knew each other (HIMYM has the best continuity of any show, HANDS DOWN!). I totally ended the episode in tears when Ted was listening to her sing. I was like, dude, just go next door and talk to her!!!!!!!! But no, we'll have to see how they really meet
I'm still overwelmed by the perfect cast choice of the mother - Cristin Milioti fits the role so perfect like I always imagined and I love how the mothers role is written - singing awesome!!!
Did you notice when they showed the photo of the mother and Louis when Ted was telling their kids that she started dating him that Robin was sitting behind them? Could that be the night they met?
It'd so awesome if her name is Leia! She was born in September, 1984 according to the episode, so she's definitely old enough to be the kid of Star Wars fans. Would also explain why they didn't name their daughter Leia!
It's also that within the first five minutes, the episode made me realize The Mother is a knock-off Zooey Deschanel, the friend was just a female Barney, who in fact was in the first five minutes, reminding me how obnoxious and grating of a character he is.
I don't think he went because he had to find out what happened to Barney. If Barney had been in the room, he probably would've decided to talk to the woman next door.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteAMAZING.
Cristin Miloti earned an Emmy tonight. An all time great performance
ReplyDeleteI loved it! My only problem is that we had an episode completely devoted to her and still didn't find out her name. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

Great episode!
Yes I agree we needed her name
ReplyDeleteanything that I say wont be good enough for this episode

The part where Cindy hit on the mother was hysterical. Didn't see that coming!

ReplyDeleteWhere the hell is Barney?
the "preview of the next episode" screw-up is going to get someone fired.
ReplyDeleteI don't have anything against The Crazy Ones but whoever did the "screw-up" definitely needs to go on administrative leave.

ReplyDeleteMan, the Mother is more awesome than any of us could have ever imagined, Ted is one luck bastard.
ReplyDeleteThis episode was one of the best in the entire series, if not the best. Good job.
What a delightful episode; how is this not a series of its own?! I would totally watch 9 seasons of The Mother's side of the story!
ReplyDeleteReally great episode, great callbacks and interesting to see so many connections ("Once I met a guy who said his penis grants wishes" gotta be one of my favorites lines). The ending was sad and affecting. Great, great episode
And what happened?
ReplyDeleteIf she isn't nominated for outstanding guest role on a comedy series (or supporting, since she is a regular) I'm going to be pissed
ReplyDeleteThey kinda promised a promo for next week's episode but showed one for The Crazy Ones instead.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably more appropriate for Ted to seek out the mother the next day and compliment her then. It seems a little intrusive to peek over the partition and compliment her in the middle of the night.
ReplyDeleteAh, lame.
ReplyDeleteReally Really loved it to the core. Now all the wait for eight and half season is worth in gold.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I think I must be the only one who was underwhelmed with this episode...

ReplyDeleteLoved it is all I can say atm, because I'm in a hurry, don't wanna miss my class.
ReplyDeleteP.S: The episode ended with "On the next episode", and I googled but no one has uploaded a promo yet.
Ok I hated this season so baddd!! BUT THIS EPISODE HAS TO BE THE BEST ONE YET!! IT WAS JUST AMAZING! Don't know if it's because we didn't see the main character alot LOL but wow the mother needs a show!!
ReplyDeleteBecause they f***ed it up, there was no promo for next weeks HIMYM but for The Crazy Ones.
ReplyDeleteThe Mother is soooo great!
ReplyDeleteTEd doesn't deserve her
That was such a beautiful episode, especially the ending. Quite a tear-jerker as well. They showed certain crucial moments very nicely! Cristin Milioti was fabulous.
ReplyDeleteGreat Episode, The mother was Awesome.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering tho, will they meet In the present soon or not till the last episode. Because previous flash-forward showed them near each other post wedding at the train station. We better get more Flash Forward if we are not to see her post wedding.
I'm really hoping that the first time we hear her name is the first time Ted hears it.
ReplyDeletePoor
ReplyDeleteWas just about to bring this up. Definitely starts with an 'L'. Leia's to good to be true haha maybe Laura? But it could just be 'Love'.
ReplyDeleteI cried again -_- My girlfriend almost laughed at me, seeing me cry, but I don't really care.
ReplyDeleteAnd boy oh boy - Ted deserves that girl so much. They are actually perfectly made for each other. Good job to Bays & Thomas, they definetly delivered it!
I miss one more opportunity to vote: Legendary!

ReplyDeleteThe necklace says "Love" in my opinion!

ReplyDeleteI have seen @Patrick Maloney say the same for many shows, so don't worry about it.
ReplyDeleteIt's also that within the first five minutes, the episode made me realize The Mother is a knock-off Zooey Deschanel, the friend was just a female Barney, who in fact was in the first five minutes, reminding me how obnoxious and grating of a character he is.
ReplyDeleteI think it's "Love" too. Would also fit with her being perfect for Ted.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he went because he had to find out what happened to Barney. If Barney had been in the room, he probably would've decided to talk to the woman next door.
ReplyDeleteI can't even take this comment seriously.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you say that?
ReplyDeleteWell done HIMYM! It was a fantastic episode, one of the best of the series, for sure!
