Awesome episode. Some great lines, and we got the return of Duncan (who now seems to have the hots for Britta) and Starburns!
Loved Duncan trying to play off kissing Britta with "Oh you mean an 'American' high five." Or Duncan looking at his perfectly tied shoelace and saying its untied by British standards. Or Duncan calling Hickey Pierce without a toupee. John Oliver is a great comedian and I look forward to him being on the show more.
Even though the interviews hinted at it and the press release confirmed it, I still was a little gutted hearing Pierce was dead... for real this time (according to Fat Neil). I also got a little teary-eyed for some reason, someone must be cutting onions, at Fat Neil's farewell: "You were hell of a D&D player. Time to level up."
And of course, Jeff/Annie always makes for good episodes since Joel and Alison have crazy chemistry, and I liked how they poked fun at their "friendship."
Ben Folds apparently did the Ass Crack Bandit song at the end. I never heard of Ben Folds until he was listed as a guest on here. I foresee me listening to a lot of Ben Folds in the next few days.
Nice catch. I had forgotten about Ben Folds' guest appearance... I've heard some of his music before but only really know him as one of the judges on the NBC a capella competition show.... it'd be cool if NBC does a video for the "Ass Crack Bandit" the song (lol)
A David Fincher parody/homage was not what I was expecting but it worked brilliantly! It really was like Zodiac, loved the songs as well. Pierce death at the end was sad but handled well.
Disappointing. Loved the 1st two eps of the season, but this one...missed the mark with me. Only part I really liked was that they made Pierces death seem so irrelevant, a few seconds of sadness & back onto the story. 1 final jab from Harmon at Chevy basically saying "yeah, we've moved on already". Cant remember the last time I gave a show I like a "poor" rating in 1 of these polls, but I did this time.
I loved the reference to Se7en, when Annie did research and Jeff turned on the background music for her, and she shut it off 5 seconds later. Took Morgan Freeman a bit longer to figure things out.
Good episode. I'm glad Duncan is back, he's so funny. I hope to see him order a pizza this season so he can once again call it 'Italian-fanny'
I love it! How about one final paintball mixed with d&d in that there are almost civilizations to go through, and the ass crack bandit is just wreaking havoc everywhere! Maybe a bit too much, but if any show could pull it off, it's Community.
Loved the episode, the fact that they addressed the Jeff/Annie relationship with no sign of trying to sink it (you protest too much, Jeff!) and that Duncan is back. Speaking of Duncan, it makes sense that he has an interest in Britta, he did in Season 1. Annie is taken, and Shirley probably intimidates him sexually, so Britta makes for a logical focus for his sexism.
The tone was crime thriller movie, but it also makes for an excellent sequel to Lupine Urology.
Hope they take the Jeff/Annie relationship forward, and let them actually get together finally. We don't need emotional whiplash of the show trying to backpedal on those two and their chemistry yet again.
I came into this season hesitant, both for the tone and for the fate of the Jeff/Annie pairing, but so far the show is 3/3 excellent on both fronts. Ten more episodes like this to go, then another season (preferably full length) and a movie!
If Harmon was really that spiteful, he would not have added in the hologram scene in Repilot, and the death of Pierce would not setup the plot of the entire next episode. It also served well plotwise if Shirley was [one of] the Ass Crack Bandit[s] as a way for her to basically end things and throw suspicion off of her. Theme wise, it also makes this episode a parallel to Lupine Urology, the other Crime homage episode that also ended with a surprise death announcement. And hopefully Pierce's Death will shove Jeff and Annie forward, to stop playing denial and games, and actually try a relationship. Given that Chevy is not coming back to the show, he still has a rather large influence on the events at Greendale.
Ahhh, SO AMAZING! My favorite episode of Community in a long long time and one of my top5 comedy episodes of the TV season, easily. Really adored it. I am so happy that this is back <3
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

But who is the Ass Crack Bandit?!
Well that started out funny and then got sad. I was not prepared for that (even though I knew it was coming).
ReplyDeleteGreat episode!
I love this show to death and I am so happy it is back to normal. Brilliant episode.
ReplyDeletebeyond awesome as this ep had he lol-ing so hard up until the Pierce reveal...... it's sooo good to have Dan Harmon back.....

ReplyDeleteI'd love that! But it's NBC, so they probably won't do much extra for Community.
ReplyDeleteAwful
ReplyDeleteCare to elaborate?
ReplyDeleteI liked it but it has to be one of their least accessible concept episodes to date. The references were very obscure.
ReplyDeleteAlso, big mistake deleting Hannibal off the DVR, Abed.

The Ass Crack Bandit should be the villain of the so going to happen Community movie ;)

ReplyDeleteHaha it would be chaotic but amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat's when Communtiy excels!

ReplyDeleteIt was missing the same energy that made this show great, and the misuse of so many characters like Troy and Johnathan Banks' character
