Two more key roles have been cast in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman-Batman movie for Warner Bros. Jesse Eisenberg will play Superman’s arch enemy Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons will play Bruce Wayne’s butler/mentor Alfred in the pic, which is set for a May 6, 2016 release.
“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940,” Snyder said in Warner Bros’ announcement of the castings today. “What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.” As for Irons: “As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure. He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman,” Snyder said. “It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”

I love Jeremy Irons so I love that part of this. But Jesse Eisenberg? Seriously? I liked him enough in Zombieland, but seriously?
ReplyDeleteThis is a joke...right ?
ReplyDeleteThis HAS to be a god damn joke ? Eisenberg ? Luthor ? This is getting a bigger trainwreck than I thought it would
What? Jesse as Lex? What? I don't see it! At all!
ReplyDeleteThis is bad casting, nothing but bad.
ReplyDeleteOnly thing that can make up for this is casting Walter White AKA Mr. Cranston for Gordon
Jessie must have done a hell of an audition to get the part i really really dont see him as Lex Luthor at all
ReplyDeleteHis audition had to be a really good one to get that part i really dont see him as Lex either e.e
ReplyDeleteprobably because he is a really good actor.
ReplyDeleteBut there's the classic looks you NEED to have for such a role. He doesen't. Simple as that.
The same reason why I wouldn't cast Anthony Hopkins as Blade
What happened to Bryan Cranston? He would of been perfect!
ReplyDeletehmmm not really seeing LL in JE, kinda like I don't really see Wonder Woman in the actress cast to play her (at least physically for now) so it will be interesting to see how these 2 will be transformed for the 2 iconic roles as they either had really awesome auditions or are badly miscast... time will tell
ReplyDeleteCan't see Eisenberg as Luthor but then again I felt the same way about Heath Ledger as the Joker... until I saw the film. Then again, this ain't Nolan.
ReplyDeleteAh, Superman vs Batman: the movie made entirely of bad choices.
ReplyDeleteI do. He is a good actor.
ReplyDeleteDon't be such a talifan. I rather have a good actor than one similar to the character.
ReplyDeleteIf we would have the actors the fans want, Batman would be Adkins. That would have been HORRIBLE.
it's 'cool' to say that good actors don't need to look like their counterparts nowadays isn't it.
ReplyDeleteIn the end an actor should fullfill both the requirements for acting chops AND looks. I'm sorry but I can't agree.
Eisenberg might be a good actor in the stuff I've seen him but he has yet to show me that he can pull off villainous
People keep complaining about Jackman as Wolverine for being too tall despite his talent so...
I'm with you on this one. PLEASE in the name of all that's good in the world tell me this is a sick joke.
ReplyDeleteThis is just bad on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteI guess DC is heavily relying on the shock castings nowadays...
ReplyDeleteWell, after the mediocrity (or train wreck, take your pick :P ) that was MoS, shock casting is about the only thing this has going for it.
ReplyDelete.... Is this is a joke? Not about Jeremy Irons, but about Jesse Eisenberg as Luthor? Because seriously, I can't even wrap my head around this.
ReplyDeleteScrew Eisenberg lol Michael Rosenbaum said in a article that i read little while back that if they ever need a Lex Luthor character he will gladly reprise it.
ReplyDeleteMy Question is why didn't they cast Michael
or Michael Rosenbaum from Smallville lol
ReplyDeletefor the same reason they didn't cast Durance or Welling as Clark and Lois: because they're stupid.
ReplyDeleteNot that Tom Welling is a brilliant actor but sure better than Cavill
Plus Tom Welling holds the record for playing Clark Kent 10 yrs and still going strong lol
ReplyDeleteErica wouldn't be able to tho bc she committed to Saving Hope and i doubt she had time to film the movie and Saving Hope
c'mon Daniel Gillies shot TVD on the side to Saving Hope and now does TO/SH fulltime.
ReplyDeleteReally? That's... strange. I guess, we'll see.
ReplyDeleteWTF happen with Warner and DC?
ReplyDeleteI like Jesse Eisenberg but i don't see it i think they are just casting big hollywood actors for the parts not caring if they suit the part or not.
ReplyDeleteTrue but maybe Daniel Gillies found a way to work around it. Not many celebrities can do that. There is a possibility they asked her but she turned it down
ReplyDeleteI agree! He's too young and don't look the part! :-(
ReplyDeleteI couldn't even believe my eyes when I read this. I'm trying hard to stay open-minded about the casting for this film, which is getting increasingly more and more difficult...
