This Sunday, an all new Looking will air on HBO. After a great premiere last week, I’ve had doubt if the show would keep on the high quality but with this week episode, titled “Looking for Uncut”, ally my doubts disappeared.
The episode is really great, maybe a bit slower than the premiere but after all it’s a show about relationship so there can’t much action. The writers are still putting their characters in motion and storylines are developed. And it’s still very interesting to watch.
There also is some new information about the guys. We learnt that one of them is from Colorado and they’ve known themselves since college. I really like getting to know those characters better.
I’m starting to see a pattern for this show. The episode opens up with the three friends together, then they developed their own stories and they met up at the end to talk about it. That’s nice and a bit like Sex and the City. The voice over is not missing at all.
I’ve read some bad comments on the internet after last week episode, and I did not really understand them. I don’t see how Looking is a cliché. The stories told last week are fun, well written and realistic. Okay, not all the gays go cruising, or have threeway or go to striper party, sure but some of them do… Most of them, it’s not cliché.
I really don’t find Looking full of stereotypes. It’s quite the opposite. And in this week episode, it continues. Actually, they kinda explore this cliché side. Sometimes, when society expects you to act a certain way, you do it because it is what is expected of you. But, if you can think about and reflect on it, then it’s not a cliché.
So, what you can expect from Sunday’s episode :
- Sex ! There are more sex scenes than in the premiere. You’ll watch a Grindr hook up, who turned out to be a neighbor and as the episode’s title revealed, the uncut penis is the center of some talks and a google search.
- Richie is back ! I’m glad Patrick and him are still seeing each other and they’re dating. Unfortunately, their date will be weird. It seems like a habit for Patrick. Last time, it was not his fault, he was fine and the doctor was as asshole. So, on this new date, will he screw it up or will Richie mess up things ?
- Moving out ! Yes, as mentioned last week, Agustin is moving out with his hot boyfriend. I didn’t know where he lives and I was a bit surprised. Anyways, I really like how they’re exploring this relationship. Things are becoming serious, they’re living together but they had a threeway last week. Agustin will reveal it to the boys and they’ll discuss it. The whole sexuality versus intimacy debate is nicely written.
- An old art piece from Agustin ! I must say I love it !
- A car ride in San Francisco. It must scary to go down so fast on those hills !
- Meeting Ethan ! Last week, Dom mentioned his psycho ex boyfriend, and this week he will be back. They will talk and I won’t tell you how it ends up at the end of the episode but it is quite satisfying. BTW, Ethan is kinda hot !
- Doris ! I really love her, that girl is so funny. She always makes very good points. And I love Lauren Weedman‘s voice
- Dom has a bad temper, he’s grumpy. I like his attitude. It seems like he’s always annoyed by everything. It’s cute in a way.
“Looking for Uncut” will premiere Sunday 26th on HBO.
