What to Expect in Episode 200
Carter Bays: We planned this season and we weren't really thinking in terms of, 'Oh, 200's got to be a big episode.' It just kind of landed nicely. This 200th episode of How I Met Your Mother is really special. I think it's one of the best we've ever done and it's also really unlike any other episode we've ever done. It's an unlikely choice I think for a 200th episode. Our 100th episode was very much a celebration of this cast with a big musical number and everything. This one is more kind of about the story and about the tale we've been telling.
Craig Thomas: We did a run through on Tuesday for this episode and you’ll see, it's a really different, strange episode, and we were all fighting tears by the end of it and that's a credit to Cristin. That's just us walking set to set, just basically a very loose rehearsal, and even that had the emotional impact of everyone trying not to cry. She is wonderful. I think we really did it right, the way we cast this Mother role, I've got to say. I'm going to pat ourselves on the back on that one. [Laughs] But it's really a compliment to Cristin, not ourselves. She's the star of episode 200. We want her to win an Emmy for this episode. She's beautiful and wonderful and hilarious in this episode. I don't want to say too many details about it but it's great.
Cristin Milioti: It will fill in a lot of the blanks. It's a very awesome episode. There's a lot of really fun stuff in there and a lot of really... There's some emotional stuff too that's really beautiful. It's a really wonderful episode and it's been a blast to film.
Cobie Smulders: The 200th episode, we're getting to see the Mother, what her life has been. The yellow umbrella question - what happened to that umbrella. How she was with her roommate. It sort of ties everything together.
Beyond 200...
Bays: Robin Sparkles does make an appearance this season on How I Met Your Mother, but it's not going to be the Robin Sparkles you expect. I'm going to put it that way. I'm going to put it cryptically like that... Our approach to this season was we definitely didn’t want to give too much of the Mother. That was our number one thing. She has to be special. We kind of looked at Jaws. You don't see the shark right away. The shark pops up here and there. But you see more of the shark as the movie goes on. The second half of the season, we'll see more of the shark and in the finale... I'm giving it away, but she's going to bite a boat.
Neil Patrick Harris: What I think they're doing so well is not only tying up loose ends but tying them to the Mother. It's really kind of an amazing thing to read. You'll get kind of tingly a little bit - like goosebumps. You'll go, 'Oh, not only did they explain that whole thing that we were waiting for the answer to, but it had something to do with the Mother, who's never met them yet.' They're doing a really nice job.
