Great news, Grey's Anatomy fans: Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey have signed new two-year deals to remain with the show, TVGuide.com has learned.
The deals with Pompeo and Dempsey, who have played Dr. Meredith Grey and Dr. Derek Shepherd, respectively, since the show's debut in 2005, will see the actors stick around at least through Season 12. ABC has yet to officially pick up Grey's for Season 11, but it seems more than likely now that the two leading stars have signed on.
However, they won't be joined by other Grey's original Sandra Oh, who announced in August that she was leaving the ABC medical drama after 10 seasons.

Hopefully someone in the writers room will come up with interesting storylines for the both of them before their new contracts run out.
ReplyDeleteoh boy. I'm glad for the show itself, but this should really come to an end soon. I have hope that season 12 will be the last.
ReplyDeleteI love MerDer, maybe loved, because I don't really love Grey's Anatomy anymore so I can't say I love its leading couple. I was so obsessed with them, I am happy that at least I will still go to youtube and watch their 3 minutes each episode, but I am just unhappy that Greys will never end on a high note to me. At least we will see baby Bailey and Zola grow up...
ReplyDeleteEllen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey are intelligent enough to realise that ,chances are, they will never make this kind of money after Greys is done.
It does make me sad to know that if they decided to leave, I would be more than fine with it because then I would be able to cut all the ties that bind me to Grey's Anatomy.
How I miss the old Grey's Anatomy, all the storylines lately have been ridiculous and unappealing, remember the MAGIC times that is what still makes me smile when I think of Greys.
Greys Anatomy is so dead to me... I wish I'd still get butterflies in my stomach whenever the episode was about to start....
I am happy and also impressed seriously I don't know if I could act in a show for as long as they have especially repeating the same story lines(I do love the show I'm just saying it follows a certain formula)
ReplyDeleteI love Grey's, but come on.
ReplyDeleteOh thank God! I'm guessing season 12 will be it then.
ReplyDeleteAwww dammit :( I wanted Grey's to end in season 10, how they will continue without Oh/Yang is beyond me.. she is the heart of the show and easily has the best lines and scenes. Oh well, guess I will go down with this sinking ship.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree that Grey's Anatomy used to be much better (RIP MARK AND LEXIE :((((( ), I still find it very, very good. It's still much better than many other shows on the air, so I'm really happy that Grey's will probably be renewed for more seasons. It's amazing how it can still find new cases and storylines that are very interesting, and of course the cast (except the interns) is still so great and entertaining. But I don't disrespect the opinions of the other commentators, I'm just sharing mine to see if anyone else feels the same way :)
ReplyDeleteLol to phone it in more? I did once like them. It's all greed at this point obvious. I remember 5 yrs ago her saying she would leave in 1-2 yrs.
ReplyDeleteI stopped watching before the horrible things the show did re Lexie and Mark. I never watched a show do it's worst to destroy a pair. The second George was offed by the bus it kept hitting lows. Thank god I stopped watching seeing the signs. In the beginning it was a good show but that was years ago.

ReplyDeleteThe producers of the show should end it before it sinks lower!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure the show has another 2 years in it. What with Sandra going I think they are going to struggle with replicating storylines of old. Is there any news on Sara renewing yet I know she was umming and ahhing a while back?
ReplyDeleteGood but without Sandra it will never be the same
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was literally "Here's hoping Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl and some folks from PP make an appearance for the 250th episode."
ReplyDeleteOther than that, I'm glad these two are sticking around.
Of course they signed on again who would leave a salary like that? At this point they're in it for the financial stability. Patrick has made that clear plenty of times. He needs Grey's to fund the racing he does in the off season. I think Ellen sticks around mostly for the fans which she has made clear plenty of times. I would rather see Sandra Oh stay over Patrick Dempsy though. Meredith and Cristina's friendship has always been the one thing to count on even when the quality of the show started going down. I agree with the comments. The show definitely took a turn when George and Izzie left but you should be mad at the actors for that one. You have to give Shonda credit for reviving the show again toward the end of S6. That was one of my favorite seasons for so many reasons. Just because they signed on for 2 more years doesn't mean the show will be around for 2 more years. I hope Shonda has something planned that will make the viewers stay around. She already lost enough between S9 and 10.
ReplyDeleteholy shit, 2 more seasons!?!? Any other show today that has had so many seasons?
