Proud of you Disney!
ReplyDeleteThis was awesome!
ReplyDeleteyou can push an episode with same sex on your viewers. But can't t make an episode were they go to church or speak of God? What is this world coming to.
ReplyDeleteI hope that this comment was a poor attempt at trolling.
ReplyDeleteReally is that necessary my daughter has no idea what that even means and why should I have to explain same sex marriages while watching a Disney show????? I don't think that I should it is supposed to be family entertainment......I understand that some children that watch Disney have two moms or two dads but not enough to add same sex marriage to the Disney line up. This is all about what is politically correct in America right now and not about who is actually watching these programs.
ReplyDelete~Won't someone think of the children?
ReplyDeleteResponses like this are reason enough alone to be happy about Disney doing this.
ReplyDeleteLike, it's really not Disney's problem if you're too ignorant to explain to your children that people of the same-sex fall in love and have families. I promise you, most kids are more confused about why it's considered a big deal than the fact that same-sex couples exisist.
Also, oh @ "family entertainment." Family doesn't just mean a mom, a dad, and some children anymore. You're just going to have to deal with that.
really? YOU dont want them to feature a gay couple because YOU don't want to explain to YOUR daughter what it means? How rich. Not only lazy but bigotry at it's finest. What if they featured a single mom? Would you want disney to not show that because you are too lazy and uncomfortable to explain what divorce is?
ReplyDeleteThe other comments here explain what I wanted to say, but I just wanted to add that your five (highly unnecessary) question marks after "Disney show" looked lonely. Here are some extra ones: "???????????" Can we now agree that no matter if you put one question mark or 50, your point is just as silly?
ReplyDeleteis it the first time that disney does this¿?
ReplyDelete3.5% of the American population are lesbian, gay, or bisexual but 40% of the American population attends church on a regular basis. Disney is not promoting equality, they are promoting agenda. And agenda sales, not equality.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've read, yes.
ReplyDeleteI'd very much like to see where you get those numbers from.
ReplyDeleteI think you're statement is poorly written but I do agree. We are not talking about promoting equality. If Disney cared about equality, we'd see more diversity amongst their characters. What we see is an agenda - and agenda just means more money - but it comes at the expense of our children.
ReplyDeleteYou can find links to actual studies here: http://bolane.org/why-good-luck-charlie-made-it-easy-for-me-to-cancel-my-subscription-to-the-disney-channel/
ReplyDeleteohh now i get why people are overreacting.... i get it the show is for kids and kids will start ask questions about this, but is your job as a parent to respond correctl anyways the kid will forget what you say in about 5 minutes and could care less about if they are the same sex or not so why being mad about the fact thata tv show introduce this if when it`s older he or she is going to know about gay people and all the stuff¿?
ReplyDeleteI think I just saw what would happen if grammar died. :(
ReplyDelete"but it comes at the expense of our children"
ReplyDeleteOh yes, homosexuality, the HORROR! Forget crime shows that show heinous murders, THIS is the true brutality.
For the record, this episode didn't murder the main characters. It just showed a happy couple. Is that so bad?
Thank you good sir, although I still don't understand why that's a reason for not showing a homosexual couple on a kids show. These two women looked happy - isn't happiness good for our children? Regardless of sexuality?
ReplyDeleteAnd you know this? You know that my kid will forget what I say in 5 minutes? I love and care for my kids far greater than any organization ever could. They do not have my children's best interests in mind. I do not care that Disney is showing same-sex couples on their programs. But I do care what my children see and hear and I will be the one who chooses what goes into their hearts and minds. And Disney, at this point, will not be dictating that.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me for asking so bluntly, but isn't "I will be the one who chooses what goes into their hearts and minds" half-way to dictatorship? You do realize they're going to learn about drugs, porn, depression and all other kinds of bad things in this world regardless of whether you choose it or not? Just wondering here, that's all.
ReplyDeleteFinally someone who can see past all of this! I don't agree that those women looks happy. Personally, I have a few friends who are gay - they are great people and even though we don't agree on many issues - we still remain friends. And if they are happy, great. I love them just the same. But, again, I do not believe that it's a healthy lifestyle. I teach my children to love all people, regardless of race or sexual orientation or whatever. But that doesn't mean I need to relent my own convictions and let them free-for-all on very important issues. One day they'll need to decide what is right for them but for now, that's my job as their parent - someone who would do any and everything for them.
ReplyDeleteYes, one day they will face all of that and I hope that they make the best possible decisions. But until then, I have to guide them to what I feel is best for them. It may not be what you feel is best for your children - if you have children - but it's what I think is the best way to guide their future choices. It isn't dictatorship, it's love.
ReplyDeleteim not saying that you do what disney says im saying that you could try your best explaining a situation that they will learn in a way or another when they are older, you dont live under a rock, gay people are everywhere, people are looking for their rights, they are on the news on tv shows and stuff... if you know how to talk to a kid about this stuff properly you wont have a problem with it
ReplyDeleteI do not let my kids watch shows that "show heinous murders." I think you missed my point, friend. I was referring to Disney's agenda - which has nothing to do with promoting same-sex couples - it's about money. And that, the money, comes at the expense of my children.
ReplyDeleteLove. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a few friends who are gay but gay folks are in fact - and I mean an actual fact - not everywhere. Only 3.5% of Americans are gay. That's 3 or 4 people in a group of 100. I will have that conversation with my children when I feel it's the appropriate time. I do not need an organization - a business concerned only with the bottom line - to dictate when and how and why I tell my kids about anything. Does that not make sense? I am the one who was commissioned with caring for them and providing for them, not some organization or not popularity.
ReplyDeleteI have to ask, are you religious? The statement where you (if I didn't misunderstand this part) think homosexuality isn't healthy is the same as saying loving someone isn't healthy.
ReplyDeleteAlso, and this is not usually something I say to people, but I'm just gonna try writing it here, so don't be offended. What if I told you it's none of your damn business whether these two women, or any two homosexual people, love each other? And that all you have to do is teach your children that when two people love each other, that's exactly what it is? Love, and nothing more?
Actually, it doesn't make sense. Some things in this world you just can't hide from your children until a "timely manner". You can hide a video game from your child, you can't hide the topic of homosexuality. I say better to simply have the conversation and be done with it rather than waiting until you think it's time. They might've even be scared to tell you by the time you want to talk about it because you've never talked about it before.
ReplyDeleteDoes it even matter what I believe or what my sexual orientation is or even how I comb my hair? I think you're getting lost in the mix, friend. I do not care which sexual orientation anyone prefers. If two individuals, who happen to be of the same gender, choose to love one another, great. I have no qualms with that. I respect their decisions, even if I disagree with their choices. But this is not an issue of diversity or equality, it has everything to do with agenda. They would never put someone on their show who attended church, carried a bible in one hand and asked if they could pray for their friends. Why? Because that wouldn't sell.
ReplyDeleteGlad that's how you'd handle it. But that's not how I choose to handle it. When I choose to have to conversation, whether tomorrow or ten years from now, that's up to me.
ReplyDeleteMy bad, I seem to have misunderstood you. I applaud you for not caring about what sexual orientation anyone has, while I don't think you can actually "disagree with their choices" because it isn't a choice :). By the way, Disney has another show starring Debby Ryan, which has a religious child in it. He prays on the show sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThat's fine. I just hope that won't be too late.
ReplyDeleteWe can agree to disagree. Thanks for the conversation.
ReplyDeleteLikewise.
ReplyDeletei know you are the parent of course you decide when or how to tell something to your kids but in this case you couldnt possibly know about disney or any other show for the matter that they are introducing a gay character or a gay married couple with kids and if your kids watch it and wonder why is that happening you need to be prepared to that of course you can be mad abut it but it`s something that will come up sooner or later.... like i see this disney was trying to do a good thing here but of course they have an agenda and they do it mostly for the controversy that will atract than for the actual fact to help but it`s something right¿?
ReplyDeleteSo your point is that you disagree on two people loving each other an being together, only because the are the same gender. And OF COURSE because it isn't healthy to have a husband if you are a man. It really makes no sense, dude. And let me tell you that homosexual people usually don't choose to be gay, they just are born that way.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's exactly what I said. I'll even quote it again for you: "I respect their decisions, even if I disagree with their choices." I do not have to agree with anything. Just as you do not have to agree with me. But can we please move past the sexual orientation piece and talk about the issue at hand - which in fact has nothing to do with same-sex couples - it has everything to do with promoting an agenda.
ReplyDeleteany childs show that has a same-sex couple should be applauded. no matter the reason they did it, at least they did it.
ReplyDeleteDisney wanted to show a same sex couple... who says they can't show someone going to church/talking about god? maybe that is something disney does not want to show at this time... maybe none the characters are religious/believe in god? The world is coming to the point of freedom and none bias towards religion.
ReplyDeleteAbout the issue, I think it's a really good move from Disney to try to introduce the homosexuality topic as something normal.
ReplyDeleteWhat agenda? ... all this talk of agenda drives me mad... As a homosexual I can honestly say there is no agenda to promote... i couldn't car less if peoples kids are gay, straight, a-sexual or bi sexual. The only 'agenda' is equal rights. If i see the world 'choice' I will get even more angry... i didn't choose who I loved, i didn't choose to be bullied, I don't control what turns me on. I don't choose to have religion thrown at me as a tool for hate.
ReplyDeleteDo you choose to fancy the women you do (hair colour, build preference) No...
I understand maybe you did not want to have that conversation with your kids at this time. Maybe parents don't want to have a conversation with there kids about god/religion but it is still shown. You can't control if your kids saw to men/women holding hands on the street, or a child at there school had two mommies/daddies. You would have to have that conversation with them then? what would you do ask the child to be removed from school.
Lets not forget history has shown that homosexuality has been here for a long long time (it is noted in roman times) and was not considered a lifestyle choice back then. Disney has made the decision to stand by there right to state homosexuality is natural.(it does appear in majority of the animal kingdom). they have their right to do that as much as you do to not watch.
Oh and recent studies show about 20% of world population is homosexual, and that is based on those that would openly admit it. Its hard to find correct figures when countries still kill people for being gay.
ReplyDeletealso.. this isn't new for disney http://www.policymic.com/articles/50847/5-signs-that-disney-has-supported-gay-rights-for-over-2-decades
ReplyDeleteBro, this is an agenda. Whether it drives you mad or not. Disney cares not about the gay community. If it were not so, then they'd create a show based around homosexuality and then give every single dime away - to the poor, to the gay community, wherever. But they will not. Because they don't care about anything other than making money. And that's their agenda. That's what should be mad about.
ReplyDeleteYou replied to Thomas, not to Joanna. I think Thomas was just kidding with his comment, as a comment made by him below suggests he does indeed support Disney's decision.
ReplyDeleteAny source, anything whatsoever, as to how you know that Disney does not care about the gay community? Or are we just supposed to accept your word on it? If it was true that it all revolved around money, Disney would be a sex channel by now. Sex on TV and in movies has always reached a wider audience and had a higher income than a network made for kids. I think Stuart is right here, I think Disney just wants to open the minds of its viewers that same-sex marriage is not only true, but increasingly accepted.
ReplyDeleteFound this fancy fact on the Interwebs:
A 1999 review by researcher Bruce Bagemihl shows that homosexual behavior has been observed in close to 1,500 species, ranging from primates to gut worms, and is well-documented for 500 of them. Homophobia has only been observed in a single species.
Without even watching I knew the same-sex couple would be Women. It's always Women couples who are the adults with children. The only time we see male same-sex couples when they're teenagers/high schoolers. America (Brit here) just seems to have any easier time with the idea/image of women couples rather than men.
ReplyDeleteYou win the Internet today!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any facts to support this, but I have a feeling it's because lesbian women trumps gay men in terms of acceptance in society, sadly.
ReplyDeleteExactly my point. T'is quite annoying.
ReplyDeletesame as the church/jesus ... all faiths/religions are agenda's and to promote there teaching is an agenda. how about disney don't show a multi-racial couple as thats an agenda.. or people going to school as promotion of education is an agenda. Disney probably does give money to charity, gay causes. However, I don't know as I don't work for them and its ridiculous to expect them give all there money away, they are a business after all and every little helps.... Disney does care as they have shown they have , they have done something... giving staff of same sex partners the same rights gives disney no money and shows they value all humans the same.
ReplyDeleteDisney views it as a human rights agenda , same as people face with civil rights. If that is an agenda then I accept that and support it... after all love is love, between two adults then it should be treated the same no matter the gender.
SSDroid I love that fact and used it when faced with homophobia or anti-gay rights. I also say organised religion and god are only observed in one (but then I am atheist and quite apposed to organised religion....however I am not offended when its shown on TV)
whoops
ReplyDeleteI love your comments! I agree with absolutely everything!
ReplyDeleteI've been an agnostic for most of my life, but as I've grown older, I've started to demand facts for what I believe in, and the day anyone can give me a solid piece of evidence God exists is the day I'll believe in it. Hasn't happened so far. Doesn't mean I go on a rampage and become butthurt when religious people are shown on TV or in movies.
Of all the things I've seen on Disney and in Disney films how is it this is what people think of as going to far or something. Let us remember if not for Disney Miley Cyrus wouldn't be anything more than a former country star daughter. The underlying innuendos and violence in Disney films and shows never seem to bother people but oh no if someone has two moms they've gone to far. I'm proud that Disney and the show made this decision. It gives me hope that the Girl meets world show may be able to do some of what Boy Meets World did when it comes to real stories that actually matter.
ReplyDeleteDisney made $1.2 billion in 2011. The porn industry makes between $10-14 billion. It seems that making approx 10% of the entire porn industry is good enough for Disney. But, I don't know, call me crazy.
ReplyDeleteThis has everything to do with money. If you are set on making this is a gay-rights issues, so be it. But the truth is that a large corporation like Disney does not care about anything other than money.
http://www.policymic.com/articles/50847/5-signs-that-disney-has-supported-gay-rights-for-over-2-decades
ReplyDeleteI beg to differ.
Great, thanks for differing.
ReplyDeleteOh woe is you. Shut up and actually take 3 minutes of your time to talk to your daughter.
ReplyDeleteThere are two gay dudes in Modern Family that have a daughter.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, and I also love the fact that two huge sitcoms on CBS both have real-life gay men in leading roles.
ReplyDeleteDon't watch it myself, but from adverts, and my guessing, are they 'stereotypical' gays? And that's ONE family you could think of. Plus there was a huge stink when they got married wasn't there?
ReplyDeleteIn the words of comedian Louis CK (who is a father himself) to paraphrase as best I can: Why should we have to hide gay people from the world because you don't want to talk to your shitty kid for five minutes. Its your kid! just tell them what it means and move on
ReplyDeletei had no problem wit the ep. but i understand wat Bo is saying. the point is, instead of simply trying capitalize on the gay trend to make money. they forget about the message it sends. God loves all of us. but lets not get carried away in thinking everything we do is acceptable. kids are easily influenced. and at such a young age shouldnt think as homosexuality as an option. if they decide later on, then fine. but not now
ReplyDeletewhy is it necessary tho
ReplyDeletethe only thing we are born is sinners. instead of teaching kids things that are acceptable by God, we teach them the opposite in saying its ok to be homosexual if u are born that way. Dont EVER underestimate the power of God. God will not hate us for who we love, but dont ever think that that is what he wants for us.
ReplyDeleteremember if u tell a child the sky is red, he's gonna grow up thinkin the sky is red. everytime he sees blue he's gonna call it red.
ReplyDeleteThe only option is wether you believe in GOD or not... god is a choice... maybe I don't want god influenced on children or taught to them. What we should teach children is they are free to do whatever they want with there lives be that embrace their homosexuality or turn to religion and shun it away... what ever makes our children happy.. its their life not yours.
ReplyDeleteStop referring to a book written by man thousands of years ago... a book that also says a lot of rubbish that people no longer follow. Unless god comes down and tells me that my life is a sin then I don't believe it or in god. Homosexuality was around before the bible, before a single god.
As a gay man raised by a straight couple I already knew I was gay before I met or saw a gay person (on TV) so your theory is wrong.
Don't EVER underestimate the power of nature. As science shows.. homosexuality appears in the majority of all the animals on this planet from humans to worms. God and religion appears in ONE !
Comments like these are the reason why I don't like religion. stop expecting the world (tv) to show your religious teachings, your faith over the facts... the fact is homosexuality is natural.
if u believe that your life was developed in a test tube, go right ahead. we are not animals, so there is no comparison. religion is not God. God is God. i shudnt expect the world to show teachings of God, but u want the world to accept and show homosexuality. my theory is not wrong, jus caus somebody liked doing wrong before they knew about it doesnt mean its not wrong.
ReplyDeleteif u read what he is saying. the issue ISNT that they are gay. its the fact that because homosexuality is becoming more accepted and like it or not, gives them ratings, they include it. they dont do the same for religion
ReplyDeletePlease refer to my other post that shows that disney has been supporting gay rights long before it became more 'accepted'
ReplyDeletenobody doesnt hate u caus ur gay. not even God. whether or not u choose to believe he is real. u were not born in a test tube. we are not animals, so do not expect us to act like them. God is not religion. God is God. the ultimate reason for our life. we are not born gay, jus as we are not born murderers, liars, cheaters and con men.
ReplyDeleteWe are all animals.. look at evolution, look at science.
ReplyDeletePlease take your god speak elsewhere, it is not a valid argument to use your faith against fact.
In your opinion it may be wrong but then thats your opinion.
I expect the world to show teachings and opinions of all, the world can show the teachings of the bible all they want. however I don't expect children to be taught hate which i find religion often shows.
Why do you have the right to tell me my life is wrong... I wouldn't ever tell anyone there life is wrong. The bible does not give you that right... especially to those who think it is all rubbish.
if your response is going to include GOD or religion please do not bother.
Please take your god speak elsewhere. Anyone who uses the argument that we are not born gay with saying just like we are not born murders or liars are disgusting.
ReplyDeleteI was born gay , and I don't expect someone who isn't gay to understand. Such as I don't understand the minds and bodies of hetrosexuals or transgendered as I am not one.
Any argument that involves god has no weight behind it.
plz understand that i am not attacking u.
ReplyDeleteall ur responses are defensive against things i never said.
i didnt say ur life is wrong
nor did i ever say anything about teaching children to hate gays.
i was taught to love.
its obvious u dont believe in God.
but ask ur self where and when this so called evolution began. how did everything begin. how did it start. where did all this come from. there are billions of questions that science cant answer. ask ur self why
ok then. "god speak" is the equivalent to 'faggot'. the way u disrespect ppl who believe in God is interesting. even tho u dont want to be ridiculed for ur sexual preference. i have my beliefs, u have yours. and they are not the same. dont feel the need to try an insult me to make urself feel better.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, enjoy ur day sir, and try not to be so angry
If you see it as equivalent thats your call, I don't.
ReplyDeleteyou have to earn respect and by comparing me to a murder you do not deserve my respect. I have spent most my life being judged and ridiculed by those of religion. I have respect for those who have respect for me.
I am very happy, however, I am angry at people who seem to judge and comment and something they don't understand and from your comments it is clear you do not understand homosexuality.
I wish you all the best and I hope one day you will understand how what you are saying is hurtful, hateful and wrong.
Which ones?
ReplyDeleteJim Parsons on The Big Bang Theory and Neil Patrick Harris on How I Met Your Mother. :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I watch both shows and i don't know how It slipped my mind.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's not really an important fact. Gay or not, they are regardless awesome in their respective roles. :)
ReplyDelete
